My aims for this module was to create pieces of work that stood out from my past modules. I wanted to make sure that I carried out my work to the best of my abilities using time management and strategies to get projects done. I hoped to use styles that I hadn’t used before such as illustration. I wasn’t sure what brief I would pick to carry out my new way of designing my work but I wanted at least one to very different from the rest.
My work processes worked well as I finished all of my briefs within the deadline time. Some were left very late such as my magazine. The problem was the changing of my idea halfway through and the the retardation of my creative flow. I then decided to take the risk and make my work more of an illustrated piece. I took a risk because of the fact I would’ve preferred to have a more clear cut piece of work that had good quality paper and was formal.
The quality of my work had a good contemporary design ethic. I chose topics that were relevant to issues at the time such as mental illness, cyber bullying and a popular band. I could've changed the A1 poster to something more contemporary by picking a subject that is very important in the news etc. Instead I went to more of a personal step and picked a music band that I like but in some ways their song names and their lyrics are very pressing to the young adults of today and a lot of people can reflect and see a connection to their songs.
I have learned how to manage my time better, especially after our day projects, after being given a brief to do in a day I can really tell that I’ve learned what I’m capable of doing in such a small amount of time. It made the other briefs look bad as I now know that when I’m given a brief to do and to hand in after a week or even two weeks that I can give the best quality work, which will definitely be shown in the next module as the day projects were right at the end of this module. If the day projects were situated to us at the start of the module I feel that my work would’ve reflected how much I’d learned.
My aim of trying something new went successfully as I stuck to it and finished it. The lecturer at the time (Emma) seemed to really get the just of the image and visual I was trying to get across by using my new style. I really has made an impact on me and the way I design and I think I will use the technique more often.
I’d improve my modules by making sure that my creative ideas are flowing much quicker and making sure I research more on each subject and taking a few days to decide the best outcome. The mental illness poster could've been improved by making it more about the stigma of the subject but am still happy with concentrating on reaching out to others. The magazine could be improved by using more stories like I intended but because of my own mistake I didn’t have as much time as I thought and only put a few in. Also I feel like my magazine resembles more of a journal or book than a magazine with could be also improved. The moving image could be improved a lot as I noticed some words weren’t shown long enough to be read flowingly like other. Making sure to check over before saving should be done most definitely. The A1 poster could’ve been improved by by making the text look even more like a sound wave, it could be interpreted into a developing of the songs but my idea was the sound wave and it would’ve looked much better.
The day projects were an overall success as we followed the brief. The one that didn’t go so well was the chupa chups lolly pop perfume. There was a stressful atmosphere on trying to do the best in a day and neither I or George had the feminine touch for the project. We came up with a finished project but it could've been improved by looking more outside the box by looking more into what girls aged between 13 and 17 enjoyed and what their interests were. What was trending on the internet. The age range is a lot more mature than when I was say 14. Improvements could’ve been made on all of my projects given but the main one is time management.
