Officer Muller was here in the high school to help promote law enforcement as a career for students to pursue. He thought the audience was a little odd, seems to be entirely the smart kids in the junior and senior classes. Usually, it was the jocks who were interested in law enforcement. The student introducing him seemed to be droning on and on and on. Muller could feel his mind becoming foggier, as if he was falling asleep. In this state, he began to realize that big, muscular guys like him were good for law enforcement, in his uniform and all, able to run, fight, etc. But he also began to realize that what law enforcement really needs is the "intelligence" behind the uniformed officers. Officers like himself were good for the brute part of the job, but they were more than useless at thinking. If each officer had a smart, younger guy actually helping him with his life, making his decisions for him, controlling his finances, the uniformed officers would be so much better off. By the time the presentation was over, all Officer Muller had done was stand in front of the students, turning this way and that, as instructed by the student moderator.
