Heres a small introduction to my characters :D
Edit:
I do realise I wrote "small" when I began writing this, but this is not small exactly. This is just a condensed version, meaning it's shorter than what the story actually is, but there's still a LOT of lore (--;)
I tried to add pictures to make it easier to read tho (;▽;)

So, let's begin with the original:
This is Aiko, the character I began to play over four years ago at a dnd summer camp. He originally had no story. He was meant to only be used in a oneshot the organisers had set up, but due to the friendships that grew within the groups, we decided to set up a group. We were ment to make new characters, but due to some medical issues i had going on at the time, i missed that session. We decided it was fine that i just continued to play Aiko, and so i was left with having to create a backstory.
This is a horror campaign where basically, the moon is alive and it's making people into zombies (we call them "Eskil kloner"). The moon also needs to be worshiped and will often replace a god in peoples minds ro gain that worship. The zombies look like your typical analog horror creature. (Photoshoped and stretches faces and limbs.)
I had no real experience with storytelling at this point, but through a rough sketch i did around 1/2 to 1 year later, his story slowly evolved.
But enough about that, here's the current story for Aiko:
As a child, he was diognosed with a terminal illness often called "the rot" amongst adults, or "blood bruise" in the vicinity of younger kids. Medically, it's referred to as "thorax necrosis".
It's a genetic disorder present as a recessive gene in a lot of people, so it has a low chance of developing, but Aiko was one of the unlucky ones. It mimics frostbite, and is often centred at the chest, etc. I added pictures :>
(From what i understand) Aiko’s parents were one day approached by some scientists who were experimenting on a "cure" to this desease, and with the option being between Aiko dying and taking a chance on what they claimed to be an experimental treatment, Aiko's parents decided to send him off with these scientists to Sharn.
Pic: Aiko's parants, and one of the scientists that worked on Aiko
In sharn Aiko basically became a lab rat. Vivisected without anaesthetics, experimented on, being strapped down to a table in an operating theatre while doctors and scientists were watching. Yk all that stuff. Against all odds though, Aiko was returned to his parents, a gem now embedded in his throat and a clock quietly ticking away in his chest.
(The gem works as a sort of magical battery, powering all the machinery inside him. This also means that he cannot be near sussur plants.)
From here, Aiko leads a pretty normal life, having no recollection of what happened in sharn. He is a bit insecure, so he tries to hide the gem with turtlenecks and such. He transitions at some point, too, because i said so. If i have to be cursed with transness, he does too.
He eventually finds his way to a professor job at a university, specialising in history. This is where he meets a student by the name of Milo. We'll get back to his story later :> Basically, Milo finds Aiko’s secretive nature intriguing, and does everything he can to become close to Aiko. It's a slow process, but eventually Aiko relents and begins to reciprocate. They grow close, but Aiko still tries to keep Milo at an arms length away. That is until Aiko doesn't show up to a lecture he was ment to hold. Milo goes to check on him and finds him bleeding out on the floor of his home. (Don't bash me, this was one of the first things I wrote for their story and I still think it feels wrong, but I don't know how to make it sound right) Milo fixed Aiko up, but after he refused to go home, wanting to know Aiko would be alright. This is what kickstarted their relationship, as Aiko now had nothing left to hide about himself.
Exept that's not true. Aiko also leads an underground organisation that sells illegal weaponry of war to the highest bidder. He's living on a teachers salary as a disabled trans man, what did you expect? He needs some money to keep replacing the expensive mechanical parts in chest when they fail.
They had a pretty domestic life, living in a house carved from a tree, at some point getting engaged, and beginning to plan their wedding.
Though, it won't last long, because the campaign needs to start. So basically, his hidden operation is busted and the school is raided, since that's where he is. Another teacher named Baulin pulls Aiko aside and tells him that they need to run, go back to sharn. Aiko protests because why the fuck would he leave his husband? Baulin says they'll "take care" of him, implying they'll kill Milo. Aiko gets upset, and Baulin instead decides to push a tesla coil into Aiko's eye to fry his brain, making him forget things. This is where the eye being mechanical comes from. Then he dumps Aiko's body into a bin. Aiko wakes up, and since his memory is a bit not there, he runs away, not remembering why he feels like Milo is is danger, and why he feels like it has something to do with him.
Now, that's just the backstory for Aiko. There's still four years of campaign that fleshes everything out more, but honestly, i don't remember everything. Especially early things. Also, not everything is relevant to Aiko as a character, but I can make a short list over the more important things:
- the whole first arc took place in the underdark. At this point Aiko's story didn't really exsist, so not much here.
- at some point we met some hags, which would take Aiko's arm to revive another hag, leading to the grappling hook arm he has now.
- During the end of the underdark era, Aiko comes into contact with a mindflayer named Alhoon who gives him these memory potions, causing Aiko to remember what happened.
- After travelling for a while, we returned to where Aiko lives, and there was a happy reunion between Aiko and Milo, which ended in the marriage of the two.
- Shortly after, the village was attacked by a pale knight who is linked to the moon, and practically everyone was turned and Milo was taken.
There's probably more, but I don't remember it. ( ´∀`)
Now, onto Milo:
Milo was born into a death cult.
(Think bhaal worshippers from bg3.) His childhood was not good, as would common when living in such a cult. The other children were often forced to sacrifice eachother if the kid getting sacrificed wouldn't comply with stabbing themselves, and abuse was commonplace behind closed doors. When Milo turned 12, we was meant to be next to die. He was young, and didn’t know how wrong this all was, so he was very easy to manipulate. And he followed their commands, getting on the alter without struggling, and using the knife to carve the runes into his skin before stabbing himself. As he did however, a bright light cut through the darkened chamber, sending a surge of energy through the room and basically killing all the cultists except for Milo. When Milo then wakes up again later he has turned from a human to a asimar, and he runs away.
He walks for days, eventually stumbling across the town where Aiko works, and begins to settle down there. He manages to integrate into the society, and eventually befriends Aiko and yada yada. I've already sort of gone over this. ( ´∀`) He does take up an oath to the god that saved him from the cult to not harm any creature. He also works as a religion teacher with Aiko at the University.
He is gone now, though, and I don't know how he's doing :(
That's more or less it, but I have skipped a lot and I've probably forgotten things, so I'll probably come back to this at some point :]
Additionally, apologies if i have repeated myself, or if there's any errors in my writing. English is not my first language, and it's very late \(_ _)
