a few days ago someone told me that i was "draining the amazon rainforest" trying to get chatgpt to draw my fursona. which i thought was pretty dumb because i actually live within walking distance of the amazon river and that isnt whats happening. in fact we do not have to worry about not having enough water here in the rainforest because it is a rainforest. and the region is actually threatened by rising water levels not falling one. and the modern history of the region starts with something called the "rubber holocaust" which is when yanks decided to come here to steal rubber to build their car industry. so i thought it was pretty stupid. that a yank was trying to blame me for all that

in fact indigenous people of the amazon have, with some credibility, been calling for a greater role in the development of AI technologies to the extent that its one of the things being discussed at the upcoming climate conference that's going to happen here in two months, because indigenous people of the amazon are not anarcho-primitivists they're just people who have mostly experienced industrialisation as something they die over while foreigners benefit and they want to change that. the amazon is a great place for a data centre if it went through the proper channels (of tribal consent) because there is plenty of water and if theres jobs involved other than being hereditary debt slaves (as is the norm in the region) well that's even better right.

yeah, i know nobody who says shit like that has done their research at all. i know that they literally do not value the lives of people who live here at all. i knooowwwwwwwww

heres some stuff that actually damages the amazon

the people here (myself included) live in egregious poverty and industrial development in brasil is as uneven as it is stunted, which means the north is in practical terms reliant on extremely inefficient methods of shipping which generate plastic packaging like this that goes nowhere. this is just the stuff i saw today on my walk back from physiotherapy. i didn't think to get a picture but i also saw an industrial crane shovel vehicle just scooping black sludge out of the river at one point. but oh why don't we have industrial development? well mostly because of the multiple US-backed coups

the point is, if there were actual industry here that would actually be less polluting than this insane level of straightforwardly colonial dependance on export of raw materials and import of industrial products which is the actual status quo here. this forest is not an untouched nature zone land-without-a-people for yankee colonisers to use in their reactionary primitivist arguments. it is a mess that needs modern economic management as much as anywhere on earth
