Welcome!!! As my oh-so-clever title says, this blog is for my own writing/art, which mostly focuses on the My Hero Academia manga, aka my comfort read during the COVID times. I don’t know anyone IRL who reads it, so I AM HERE!! *** Spoilers abound! I post about all official sources, including Vigilantes/Illegals, School Briefs, the anime, etc. (although the main manga is my true love).

My ask box and messages are currently open. Ask/message away on MHA or any of the series below (I’ll also answer about my own headcanons/ships/etc, but I don’t do ship wars). Also, while I read leaks and do a reaction post immediately after, I do not look at leaked pages or read unofficial translations until AFTER I read the official chapter.

Note: I’m multi-ship friendly and an LGBTQ+ ally, but as an older fan with my own teen kids, I personally don’t speculate or post about the sexuality of teens, or about teens in sexual relationships. I’m not judging if others do, but I won’t make it creepy on my end. When it comes to teen romantic relationships, I stick to mild speculation based on what is expressly, overtly shown in canon.

Favorite hero characters: The origin trio, of course, but my heart lies with All Might, Aizawa, Present Mic, and Fat Gum. (What can I say, I’m old and I like the grownups.) Shoutout to Iida, Amajiki, and Monoma. Kaminari, Kirishima, and Ashido have great energy. I want to love Ochako too, but I don’t love how the “crush” storyline consumed her for so much of the story.

Favorite villain characters: Twice, Shigaraki, Stain, Spinner, and Dabi….and I’m REALLY enjoying the post-PLF war AFO development too. Shoutout to Compress and Toga. I loved seeing the LOV stomp Overhaul and Re-destro (though I’ve come to really love the quirk Overhaul).

Favorite side characters: Fuyumi, Ms. Joke, Officer Sansa, Makoto, Burnin

Influences/stuff I like other than MHA:

I LOVE Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, Dragon Prince, Castlevania, Arcane, Lore Olympus, Gravity Falls, Owl House, MLP:FiM, Umbrella Academy, The Boys, and pretty much every Spider-Man incarnation imaginable. Plus the 90s X-Men cartoon and the new X-Men ‘97!!

Also loved the manga/anime for Vinland Saga, Mob Psycho 100, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Monster, Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy x Family, Zom 100, Pluto, and Dungeon Meshi. Kaiju No.8 is cute too! Plus Attack on Titan & Demon Slayer, which have gorgeous animation.

The MCU, Star Wars, and Batman (especially The Animated Series) are big influences. Also Doctor Who!

I’ve read/watched some D.Gray Man, Golden Kamuy, HxH, Fruits Basket, Soul Eater, Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, Fire Force, One Punch Man, Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun, and Tiger & Bunny.

I don’t read as much Naruto or One Piece or Bleach as I “should.” I kinda skipped that generation? Oh, but Akira and Unico are amazing. I dig Astro Boy and Black Jack too.

There is this one Horikoshi sketch of Aizawa handing out red cards to his whole class. I imagine that — and being dragged into the announcer booth with Mic — is the full extent of his sporting spirit.

All Might!

This is a small ray of sunshine on a Friday afternoon. The Kennedy Center is dear to my heart, having gone many times as a kid. My grandparents were immigrants but did anything they could to be patrons of performing arts like ballet, opera, and musical theatre. They were also big fans of the elegance that JFK, Jackie, and “Camelot” inspired in American culture, and of the civil rights that they championed. To me, the Kennedy Center meant getting dressed up, practicing my fanciest etiquette, hearing about JFK’s contribution to a more equal America, and enjoying incredible performances from elite artists from around the world. Knowing that the building will stand just a little bit longer (without that man’s name to boot!) warms my soul.

The old school lack of transparency on tumblr is amazing because you assume the people you follow must all be equivalent to you and then you see someone write “I brought my youngest to college today” and someone else write “my mom wouldn’t let me listen to Ariana Grande when I was a kid” and then your head explodes

honestly one of the best things we can do for ourselves is realize that people of different ages than us can still be the same kind of person as us. it's humbling and it gives everyone involved a sense of continuity, and it busts those stupid generational stereotypes media is so fond of.

Mic & Anger

Look, let me first say that anyone can headcanon anything. It's cool because it's whatever you like. Fantasy. Fanfics and art. It's fine. It's encouraged. I write fics! I don't want to discourage anyone from playing in the sandbox.

But we have only what we read and watch to go on for *canon*, and what we see is enough.

Mic has anger issues.

First off, whether they're justified from trauma or anything *is not the point*. He has them. If someone was abused as a child and then abuses their child, they're still an abuser. We can have empathy for them but it doesn't mean they get a free pass. He chooses to let rage out when it would be healthier to find another outlet or anything else.

So he threatens to beat up some reporters. If a cop said this, what would you think? Mic is a law enforcement agent. This matters.

He yelled at Jiro. IMO, deserved (lol), but he did *yell at a student as a teacher.* Again, we see this. It's played as funny, but why do people hold Aizawa responsible for what he does and say he's such a bad teacher, but this is fine?

Why try to deny he has anger issues? He holds all his emotions in for too long and then they come out... big time. He doesn't want to be seen crying because "men don't cry", but anger is fine to him - beating on you-know-who is a pivotal moment for the rage coming out. That's pretty toxic thinking, and it just means he's flawed. I love this man to death. He's not perfect. It doesn't mean he's bad if he has these problems. It just means he has them.

I want to read some older-and-important-but-new-to-me manga. I’m looking for something longer since I have time to dive in. FWIW, I’m generally not a fan of sports manga, and I don’t usually gravitate towards shoujo, but otherwise have at it!

Recommend a series:

Naruto (It feels like I have to? At some point?)

Bleach (This also feels compulsory)

Berserk (bc THE ART)

20th Century Boys (I looove Monster!!)

Death Note (another “required” one)

Kingdom (bc I like historical fiction)

Soul Eater (bc I like Gachiakuta)

Tokyo Ghoul (bc I like Choujin X)
