I love Felicity Smoak. Pass it on.
When the ending sucked, but fan artists and fic writers got your back
Some thoughts on Arrow season 5 promo.
I’m happy the action seems to be better. The way Oliver couldn’t beat Lady Cop or Anarchy in s04 was ridiculous. Oliver should be the hero with the best set of fighting skills. So, I’m extremely happy with the action part of the trailer. The rest however...
It seems to me like the “should I kill or not?” was done before. It’s the focus of every season (4 YEARS! C’mon Oliver!). So, I’m not sure whether I really want to go thorough it again for the 5th time. The new guys don’t calm me, either. There’s too many people in the lair and the writers didn’t really prove that they can handle multiple characters at the same time.
As for Olicity... I really hope they learnt their lessons in season 4 and they’ll put as much effort in Olicity as they seem to put in stunts. Action is cool but it should never be the focus. If I want to see some bad-ass, high quality punches I will watch an action movie and I’m good. In Arrow I care about Olicity and good storytelling to keep me intrigued. So, high hopes on Bratva and Mayor Oliver (I love political dramas).
(My expectations for good Felicity or OTA storylines couldn’t be lower.. I have trust issues with those writers. So, it’s kinda good since they can’t really screw this up more for me... god... I hope they won’t prove me wrong.)
Just saw a “how to fix Felicity Smoak” post
and it basically said “don’t make her so good at everything because she’s become a Mary Sue.
First of all, all Superheroes are Mary Sues. They can all do things that are completely unrealistic and learn to do them in a timespan that is virtually impossible for average people to learn.
Second of all, what is wrong with a woman who is good at multiple things? Can’t women have it all, the way men do on television shows? No hate here, but Curtis Holt is a Olympic athlete, genius, tech inventor and now set up to become a superhero. Why is nobody complaining about him being a “Mary Sue”? Could it possibly be because he’s a man???
I just don’t understand the mentality of “women can be “badass” but not too good at everything they do”. Like, excuse me, but from where I’m standing, Felicity is a great role model. She focuses on work, was CEO of a company she now owns, saves people in every way she can, was in a successful relationship, knew exactly how she deserved to be treated and didn’t allow anyone to walk all over her, not even the love of her life, actively encouraged her friends to be the best version of themselves and to go after what they want.
And I’m sorry, but as a woman, I would rather be hated for excelling at things I do, than be loved for keeping quiet in my corner and “do what I’m supposed to do and not have opinions”
This post goes to women who know that they can have their cake and eat it too. There is no such thing as “being too good at everything”.

besides - to add to this post - the only thing that felicity might be (might cause i dont know anything about computers) unrealistically (by real life expectations) too good at it ONLY her area of expertise as a superhero. tech stuff. computers, technology. the lady has been building things too since she was a kid, so it’s no surprise she could help with the Atom suit - even though it wasnt about code. things like that. it’s basically a genre thing, like you said. (and a sexism thing - blatantly so, like you said)
that said, demanding that felicity not be ‘perfect’ at everything willfully ignores the fact that as a character, she is actually a very human and very flawed character? that lady has real issues - issues that dictate her actions, help or hold back with her life, her relationships.
felicity will always be the one to look out for herself. she grew up that way; she doesn’t expect anyone to protect her, she will always protect herself - it’s her knee-jerk reaction. she will leave you before you have a chance to leave her, because in her mind, you will. until very very recently she thought there was something wrong with her and that she wouldn’t ever be loved - because of her dad couldn’t love her enough to stay, who would? if her mom couldn’t understand her enough to accept her the way she is without trying to change her , who would? (perception is not reality - donna does accept her wholly, but felicity didn’t realize that until very late)
and felicity - that part that makes felicity always seek confrontation and a resolved of a problem (’i have one more question’ in 2.23, the way she rushed at oliver when she found out he’d had that ring so long, the way she can’t keep chasing mysteries) - has it’s flip-side too: she will seek confrontation even when she intellectually understands that the other party might need space - like she did with that damned paternity test. even though oliver always gives her that space and she sometimes is wise enough to demand it (i need air). sometimes she cannot reciprocate.
felicity is compassionate but she also demands. god, i love it so much that she demands the best for herself. that she is willing to take care of people, but she will never stand for sacrificing herself to do it. even when it’s someone she loves, you know. even when maybe compromise between both parties might have solved their issues.
felicity doesn’t like compromise very much. she’s not so good at talking. she’s callous. she doesn’t care if you’re dead or alive, she will be irreverent if you’re an asshole, according to her moral standard.
she advocates for the preservation of life, but she won’t give a fuck about murder if it will save teh people she loves. that’s not hypocrisy though - that’s a deep willingness to get her hands dirty and a slightly crooked understanding of the worth of human life. to felicity, if you cross certain lines you are utterly and unremorsefully expendable.
felicity gets real fucking mean when she’s hurting and she will go for below the belt because felicity has a vindictive streak, i think. one that battles with her empathy and compassion but that wins out the more she’s hurting.
felicity will refuse to settle, for anything and anyone. even when it would do her some good to stop and FEEL for a bit, think for a bit, not react to her triggers immediately, before bolting. my bb felicity has such troubles with just letting people love her, but she needs such love in her life, she’s starved for it and that contradiction is so beautiful. felicity buries things, she has issues that go back years because she never spoke about them to a soul. felicity has WILD self esteem issues (those pokes about oliver sleeping around with all the gorgeous women weren’t there just to be funny or make oliver look like a man whore. they had nothing to do with oliver at all.)
felicity is SO PRIVATE, so stubbornly independent, so scared of actually having someone in her life she can trust - that she will see a forest-fire even when there’s only a spark.
oliver is not the only one who’s afraid, who has emotional trapdoors in his mind and stairwells that lead to nothing. diggle is not the only one who has rigid lines of thinking. sara is not the only one that is awash in grey. (lmao, sara is so different from felicity there, because sara is, in her heart, a such a powerful force for good and she wants so SO BADLY to be a hero. felicity isn’t so very concerned about that at all. she just wants to get the job done and keep her people safe)
felicity smoak is perfect, because she is so imperfect. she is human and a labyrinth. and no, arrow doesnt do such a consistent and good job of showing this, but it does the bare minimum .
Wow, just wow. This is so perfect I forgot to breathe while reading it, @yellowflicker09011996
This is perfect.
A blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other.
A blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other on a flight from LA to NY.
The lawyer asks if she would like to play a fun game? The blonde, tired, just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun.
He explains, “I ask you a question, and if you don’t know the answer, you pay me $5.00, and vice versa.”
Again, she declines and tries to get some sleep. The lawyer, now agitated, says, “Okay, if you don’t know the answer you pay me $5.00, and if I don’t know the answer, I will pay you $500.00.”
This catches the blonde’s attention and, figuring there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game. The lawyer asks the first question. “What’s the distance from the earth to the moon?”
The blonde doesn’t say a word, reaches into her purse, pulls out a $5.00 bill and hands it to the lawyer. “Okay” says the lawyer, “your turn.”
She asks the lawyer, “What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four legs?” The lawyer, puzzled, takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references, no answer. He taps into the air phone with his modem and searches the net and the library of congress, no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and coworkers, to no avail.
After an hour, he wakes the blonde, and hands her $500.00. The blonde says, “Thank you,” and turns back to get some more sleep. The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, “Well, what’s the answer?” Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5.00, and goes back to sleep.
Yooooooooooo now THIS is the kind of blonde jokes I’m about

How does it feel to take the persona of Deadpool?
3rd August 2012
“[Marc and I] were both just, like, bedazzled by her. She was weird and quirky and funny and we were like ‘Let’s hire her’. We’ll make that scene fun. And then we got those dailies back and we were all like, everybody was like, ‘Did you see those dailies with Stephen and that girl?’ Because you could tell something happened to him. He, like, lightened up, and he got smiley and he really liked her and it came through on screen. And then the network called, and then the studio called, and they were like ‘This girl, who is she? Like, what’s her deal?“ - Andrew Kreisberg

Embrace Yourselves
Our bodies aren’t ornaments, they’re vehicles.
Vehicles to live life to the fullest no matter if you’re tall, small, fat, thin, black, brown, white, male, female, or anything else in between.
Don’t spend a second of the day hating yourselves for being you. You’re the only you in the history of this planet that has ever, and will ever be. We need you to be you. Unapologetically you. We need you to look like you, laugh like you, think like you, create like you, dance like you, sing like you.
The world needs you. Just as you are. Not thinner, not fatter, not smarter, not taller, not shorter, not more talented or more articulate.
Just. As. You. Are.
Because there will always only be one of you. Ever. And this world can’t afford to waste that gift. You can’t afford to waste that gift by trying to be someone else.
You think you need to look a certain way to be amazing… the thing is, you already are amazing. Right now. Embrace it. Embrace the fact that you don’t look like the person sitting next to you, and never will. And embrace their uniqueness. Society is trying to homongenise you. Don’t let them, because they’re wrong.
They’re wrong, NOT you.
Make society fit you, not the other way around.
Break the mold.
Because we’re human beings, and we don’t come in a one-size-fits-all package of life experiences.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
