20260603-9 BT 700 XL bikepacking trip
The BT 700 XL was one of the toughest and most enjoyable rides I’ve done. As I am 72 (and not in great shape due to some health issues) it took me 6 days and 10.5 hours to complete 933 kms with 8,023 metres of climbing, averaging 145 kpd. Certainly no FKT but pleased that I rode EFK ;-). Here’s my trip photo album: photos.app.goo.gl/ga8TSD7vfLws7B9h6. This is my combined ride activity record…

20241106-14 My Australian Bikepacking trip with Ken
When Anneli and I planned our G Adventures small group tour of Australia ending in Sydney, I planned a tack on bikepacking trip, of about 1,380km, from Sydney to Melbourne, that from Canberra to Melbourne used the Hunt 1000 Australian Alps Trail, which is billed as “A 1,000 km journey through the rooftop of Australia along backcountry trails…” However, my training for such an epic ride was…

20241106-14 Australia Bikepacking trip with photo album and Relive videos
My epic bikepacking adventure, with amazing friend Ken, that started November 6th in Sydney, ended today November 14th in Omeo. Due to my hip replacement July 26th, and one month off the bike while doing a wonderful Gadventures Australia trip with Anneli, I did not have the fitness or butt callouses needed to do my planned trip distance in the 11 days needed to reunion with Anneli in Melbourne.…
20241108 Australia bikepacking day 3
Decided to have a shorter day (80k, 1202m with steep 10-12% gravel climbs) and stay in Canberra as: my butt needs some time off the bike and my legs are tired from the distance and climbing; Ken needed to get a bike problem fixed (done); we needed to figure out whether to do the 2024 Hunt 1000 route (received Nov 5th and haven’t studied), or do a previous version of the Hunt 1000 route that I…
20241107 Australia Day 2
Today was a tough 155k with 1,933m of climbing. Tomorrow, we’re going to ride just 74k and stop in Canberra. Ken needs to fix a creaking bottom bracket (?), and my butt needs a half day off the bike to heal. Relive video. https://www.relive.cc/view/v8qVErVEd36 Cheers…GregLife is like a bicycle. 20241010 Packing for an Australian bikepacking trip
Here is a video of me packing for a 1,400km bikepacking trip from Sydney to Canberra to Melbourne that includes the Hunt 1000 route, that I will start riding November 6th, with dear friend Ken Waring, that is crazy enough to fly to the otherwise of the world for an epic adventure. Before the bikepacking trip, my adventurous sweetheart Anneli and I will be doing a G Adventures “South Australia and…
