[ LOCK AND LOAD]
[ ASK BOXES OPEN, READY AND WILLING]
New perspectives lead to new experiences....
“....hrm. Guess she’s busy or something.” Grey said this to himself in a murmur, staring into the screen of his holo-laptop; it was half an hour or so since they’d left the space station via their ship and set a course for aimless space. He’d been trying to get a connection with his contractor ever since he’d boarded but no luck. Either she was busy or unavailable at the moment...
Welp, better just send her a message then! He tapped at his keyboard rapidly, creating the necessary message confirming the mission had been completed and stated that he was awaiting payment. Message sent, and he was leaning back in his chair with a sigh, crossing his arms behind his back as he looked out into the great beyond before him.
Just another day, though definitely one of the better ones.
Grey: -snorts- Yeah, no kill like overkill. [ pauses to frown for a moment] Which I suppose is appropriate for this guy, huh…? Well…regardless, you’ve got this covered. Guess we’re out of here then. I might take you up on a future meetup but no promises, alright? See ya round.
[ went back to smirking at that one as he turned around and started to walk down the hall, holstering his gun back into a pod form at last. He did a brief, vague wave at the cameras, as if acknowledging the assistance of the unknown higher power of this place- likely the station manager. ] Come on, Red, let’s get out of here. I’m hungry and I wanna get that contract completion conversation with miss primface out of the way ASAP.
[The cyborg gets a little taken aback by the sudden restraining action, but then promptly smiles in response and gives the cameras a thumb up.]
Red: Now that’s what I’m talking about! [Then turns back to Geno and nods, now in response to Grey’s words.] Yeah, and good luck with this guy! Might be a bit of a handful… [Then turns to Grey and indeed proceeds to follow him, literally as soon as he gives the order.] Understood!
Geno: See ya. [He picks up the capsule, and teleports off to the ship. He could use some food himself… and a nice nap.
What a wild ride.]

Geno: Yikes! [He says this while blocking the beast’s blow, and hops away in time to avoid getting diced by the energy beam. What power! And that wasn’t just an ordinary laser. He could tell that raw energy was of psychic origin. Just what was this cyborg…?]
[He decided to focus his priorities on defense, using a PSI LifeUp on everyone, seeing how Red had just completly fell over again when he used the move.]
Grey: [ nods. immediately knowing what Red was about to do and forming an idea of his own; if Red was bringing out the big guns, then he may as well do the same, no going back now. And it might just help finish off this thing once and for all. He got out of Red’s way, and as the other fired the intense bolt of energy, Grey called on his own reserves…
Though the energy he was calling on were altogether more chaotic and untamed, seething and corruptive, tendrils of lashing madness he still had yet to tame all the way, but he had enough control of it to use in situations like this. Feeling encouraged by Geno’s healing, the restorative energy giving him a minor boost in strength (and confidence), he grunted as he gathered a murky, reddish blur of energy in his hand. As the beast roared and flailed, caught completely off-guard by Red’s attack and taking heavy damage by the second (it literally seemed to start melting), Grey intensified the energy in his hand, making it seem even more blurry and kind of an eyesore to look at.
Literally, looking at it for too long seemed to cause disorientation, the incomprehensible energies called from and connecting to a source Grey didn’t feel like acknowledging except for when he had to use it; with another, slightly more strained grunt that bordered on a muffled yell, the masked bounty hunter brought his hand forward and hit the creature with a less tangible bolt of energy, manifesting as an invisible force that could be neither perceived or easily understood. To outsiders it would seem like Grey was merely directing the blurry energy at the creature. ]
[ And yet to the creature itself, in addition to the feeling of being melted by Red’s attack, Grey’s attack piled on a feeling of intense mental pain- like its very brain was being grasped in cold metal claws and squeezed and stretched ad-finitum, disorienting and causing it incredible pain at the same time.
And now the effects of the sleep-inducing poison was becoming more difficult to ignore. It had, it realised, completely underestimated its opponents and was effectively losing, if not beaten already. How…how could these random bounty hunters possess such power…?!
That last thought had the creature finally keeling over backwards, hitting the floor with a thud, blasted back a bit by Red’s more tangible attack, with Grey releasing his attack as he noticed the creature fall. He panted heavily and dropped to a knee, resting a palm against his head and trying to recover himself.
That attack…it drew a lot out of him….but had they finally won….?
Indeed it seemed they had, for the creature’s form began to revert, but remained immobile. It shrank down, the black goop disipating into a more familiar texture- white, short fur. In short time it had shrank down into a humanoid more approaching Geno’s size, with an unusual rounded snout, large ears…it’s eyes were currently closed but it could be noted that they were somewhat large…it possessed a mechanical left arm, but for all intents and purposes it was… ]
Grey: …an Arkan…should have known. I think…I think it’s properly down for the count now….
[Red welcomes the Lifeup with a bright smile, as he gradually stands back up and then notices Grey’s next move with a little gasp.
Holy crap. He’s getting serious too, and that’s awesome but also kind of worrying…
There’s definitely something wrong with that unnerving, chaotic energy he seems to keep within himself, something that must hurt him in some way, because otherwise he wouldn’t unleash it so rarely. And it’s definitely a good thing that it’s hitting their enemy so effectively and accurately.
And it’s definitely a bit of a surprise that it turned out to be another of those space rats, as the young cyborg realizes when he scoots over towards Grey to check on him.]
Red: Just what the hell is up with this one though? Do they always get this weird? [Squinting at the collapsing enemy, to then glance at Grey, crouch down and put a supporting hand on his shoulder.] Are you okay…?
[Meanwhile, his other hand has already turned back into an aiming cannon that will positively shoot if this fucker dares to move again.]
[As far away as he was from both attacks, Geno still managed to feel… the incomprehensible move. His head physically ached and his stomach cramped with nausea when he saw Grey charge it, and when he felt his nose bleed, he forced himself to look away. Even then, the throbbing didn’t ebb, and it only increased when he finally launched it. Just what the hell was that? And where in the stars did Grey, a freaking bounty hunter no less, get this power?!
When he gave himself a minute to recuperate - it took Geno a couple of seconds, he had to make sure he didn’t outright keel over from the massive amount of… whatever the hell he witnessed - he dared to peek at the damage done. What he saw wasn’t the dog monster he was expecting, but rather… another of his kind.
An Arkan.]
Geno: [carefully inspects the downed Arkan. This thing was the dog monster?] I never seen an Arkan this strange myself, Red. In fact, I didn’t think Arkans could transform. This is news to me.
Geno: [He pants, wiping his bleeding nose with the back of his arm.] Whew. Mission success then. [Turns to Grey, giving him another LifeUp] You alright, Grey?
Grey: ...I am now. [ he says this in response to both Red and Geno, nodding in acknowledgement, though he smirks at Red in particular and gently punches his partner in the shoulder once he gets up. Bless Psionics, he felt great! ] Don’t go soft on me now. Heh. We made it through just fine...now. [ turns to the unconscious Arkan, narrowing his eyes] I was pretty sure Arkans couldn’t shapeshift until today. Maybe those weirdos on the Homeworld are doing some weird experiments and altering themselves...dunno for sure, but this one isn’t normal.
[ he frowns, then looks to Geno] I’m not taking it with me. I wasn’t contracted to deliver anybody and I sure as hell don’t want this thing on my hands. You do what you want with it, imprison it, kill it, I don’t care- we’re done here.
[ a pause, then he extends his hand, not at all cautiously. He’s smiling again, a little. ] You’re not a whole lot like the other ones, you know. Thanks for the help.

Geno: [Just like the aforementioned bounty hunters above, Geno was ready to kick some thieving butt and take names doing it. He cracked his neck, flexing his claws.] Bring it on, ugly sac of goop- [He was rudely interrupted when the spike rain came, and he yelped when one or two of them grazed him. He snarled, getting into his own animalistic posture.] Oh, you asked for it! Take this!
[He leaped, claws laced in shocking plasma, hoping to beat him a new one. (PSI Plasmodium}]
Grey: Red, wait, don’t be hasty-!
???: [ hissed when Red charged, seeming prepared to meet him…and did, when it came in the form of it simply smacking Red aside into the wall when the helmeted fellow got close. It was somewhat antidramatic but it had seen him coming and reacted accordingly, paying the sword-wielder no more mind- either because it thought he was out for the count, or more likely because it had another attacker incoming, this time being the one with the metal claws. It raised its left arm to try and block the attack, since Red had in fact distracted it long enough for Geno to get in closer, leaving it unable to react in any other capacity except defensive-wise.
The plasma had the effect of melting the creature’s arm a little, but it didn’t seem really pained and the reason for this was revealed soon enough- the plasma melted away the black goop of its being to reveal a metallic surface underneath. Either this thing was in fact a robot of some sort or it had an entirely mechanical left arm and it’s shapeshifting abilities extended to that arm in some way. Regardless, it now tried to bat Geno with the same arm since it indeed felt no pain and the damage was somewhat minimal. Whatever the arm was made of, it was clearly some pretty sturdy stuff….]
Grey: Red! [ deciding Geno had the thing occupied for the time being, he hurried over to his comerade, hoping the other hadn’t been significantly injured. He was tough but that hit had seemed pretty bad! He didn’t want to get too close to the action though so he had to stop short of getting to Red all the way. He called over: ] Red, you alright? Do I need to throw some meds at you or not?!
[Antidramatic indeed. Red gets easily flung against the wall, and hits it so hard it even cracks a little with the impact. Then he unceremoniously falls down and once again on his face, accidentally dropping the sword in the process.
And even despite that and the resulting injuries, he still can hear Grey just fine. His body sparks slightly, but only for a second, before he raises his head towards the still ongoing battle, and then tries to at least get on his knees. And succeeds.
Yet, the effort makes more sparks emerge. Oh, come on, he fixed himself just five minutes ago! This is what happens when you’re worn-out and obsolete, he supposes.]
Red: [Upon glancing specifically at Grey and nodding in response.] Make way…
[Then the tips of his fingers start sparking, but these are different sparks. Not electric ones, but rather psychic ones. It might not come out in full force, but it’s still worth a try, especially now that the enemy is distracted with Geno.]
Red: [Now slowly attempting to stand back up while raising his hand.] Make way!
[And that one was directed at Geno, because there goes a little, yet visibly powerful bolt of what appears to be raw psychic energy, right towards its intended target.
And it seems to be so potent that it takes away enough of Red’s energy to make him spark and fall back over.]
Geno: Yikes! [He says this while blocking the beast’s blow, and hops away in time to avoid getting diced by the energy beam. What power! And that wasn’t just an ordinary laser. He could tell that raw energy was of psychic origin. Just what was this cyborg…?]

[Nanobots. How great. Just what didn’t this thing have?! He was considering laying down a PK Groundspike, but thought against it - they had to keep damage to a minimum, aftet all, and if it was still going to the control room, he couldn’t risk letting loose.
However, the beast would run into more trouble. From a wall appeared needle like appendages, each aiming to stab the intruder and inject it with powerful, sleep inducing toxins. Of course, they made sure to aim away from our fellow mercs, so they were in the clear.]
[ Grey just kept up the pursuit, keeping his gun prepped, beginning to huff a little with the exhaustion of all this running. Why did this thing have to run, it was getting annoying!
Turning round the corner, they’d find the creature had assumed a larger form, still canine, but much more skeletal in appearence and still pitch-black. It had gotten halfway down the next corridor before being stabbed in the side by a spike, whereby it hissed and roared, getting away from the spike but otherwise seeming non the worse for wear. It seemed unaware of the sleep toxin, or said toxin was maybe taking some time to act, it was uncertain; however, the act of getting away from the spike had caused the creature to crash into a pod mounted against the opposite wall, said pod immediately venting white steam everywhere as if it had been breached.
Visibility became limited, and Grey let out a rather loud grumble of annoyance, just shouldering through the white steam, not caring if he couldn’t see- he was not letting this thing get away again1- and started firing with his gun, setting it to the highest intensity.
A few shouts of anger confirmed it had been hit, and once he’d cleared the steam, Grey spotted the fact that the creature’s bladed tail had in face been severed part-way by Red’s sword. It was currently running away down the hallway, but at a more noticeably sluggish pace. Eventually, it stopped, hissed, then turned around, finally, to face them. Black fangs glinted in its mouth as it lowered itself to assume a more threatening posture.
Grey just smirked; finally, it was gonna fight! ]
Grey: Well, guess it decided to stop being a coward! Let’s finish it off!

Grey: …crap! [ immediately ducked down and tapped a button on his belt, causing a shield to appear around him and protect him from the first few hits done by the spines, he could only hope they had similar if not better protection for themselves… ]
[Red is still smirking himself, even despite the fact he never removed the helmet and thus all his expressions have been entirely invisible so far, and still are. It’s like he’s just smirking to himself, upon realizing that he did indeed manage to deliver one impressive blow through the thing’s tail.
He keeps sprinting after it determinedly, sparking with almost bloodthirsty anticipation… and then the wretched creature finally stops and decides to confront them, which only makes him smirk even more eagerly.]
Red: About time! [Completely forgets about his own ability to generate a shield like an absolute moron but still gets to quickly dodge one spike and then deflect another with an equally quick swing of his sword.] You’re good, gotta admit, but not good enough! [Then he lunges at the creature again with yet another strike of said sword, which is once again emitting all sorts of lethal sparks.]
Grey: [ scowls upon noticing this, then shakes his head and gets into a sprint after the trail again, calling, ] Healer nanobots! [ huffed indignantly as he saw a bladed tail disappear around a corridor ahead after they’d turned a corner in following the trail. ] Well, now I’m annoyed, we could be back to square one…
[As soon as he spots the sludge trail, Red doesn’t waste any more time and starts sprinting himself with an aggressively determined frown.]
Red: Well, they’re not the only one who can do that…
[And as soon as he says that, he appears to summon a little box from an imaginary inventory window, to then attach it to a side of his coat’s belt and give it a tap. A quick, silver stream of nanobots emerges and proceeds to dig into his skin and restore his exhausted mechanical parts. All while he’s still sprinting, and then accelerating upon restoration with a big smirk, sword at the ready. [Whirling around, he saw the creature had reappeared on the other side. Clever thing, that was. It had duped everyone there! But it wasn’t escaping here, Geno thought as he weakly stood and ran after it with the others, not on his watch.
And apparently, not on the owner’s watch either.
As the creature neared the door, the guns protecting the entrance that were disabled earlier had been reenabled, all pointed right in the creature’s direction. They were menacing high end gear that would fire instantly as soon as the fiend got too close.]
Grey: [ himself took a few shots as he attempted to catch up to his faster companions, also attempting not to shoot either of them in the process, though his aim was practiced and fair for the most part, his shots hitting true. This in combination with Red’s canon shots caused further damage to the creature which displayed crater-like impacts in its back where each shot landed, but it just screeched and stumbled onwards; it even managed to weather the powerful shots of the door guns, momentarily increasing its forward mass as it bounded towards the heavy doors on all-fours like a gorilla. It was at this moment that it actually said something coherent, in a very pained and angered roar: ]
???: LEAVE ME ALONE!!
[ With that, it smashed through those doors by ramming into them with a surprising amount of strength; despite all the damage it had sustained, the thing was still going and going strong, at that. It left a hole in the door large enough for its persuers to go through, the thing continuing its retreat after stumbling from the impact, assuming a smaller, almost canine form after it got its bearings. ]
Grey: Bloody hell…Geno! Any way to shut off parts of the facility? There’s no way it can get through *every* door-!! [ he barked this as he ran, not stopping for a moment in his pursuit ]
[Red doesn’t stop either. If anything, he accelerates, and so much that he’s almost leaving a trail of sparks.
Whatever this thing is, it seems to be capable of shapeshifting and clearly knows how to use it to its advantage. No matter, still not the weirdest sight he’s faced, he’s sure. Gotta focus.
Now that they’re out and far from the reactor, he can push a little more of electricity forward, and he sure as hell will. Without stopping, he unsheathes his sword, swings rapidly and sends a small yet charged lightning bolt flying straight towards the enemy, in order to knock it down or at least stun it.]
Geno: [was floating beside Grey now, his body in too much pain to physically book it with his wound and all. He was as surprised as Grey to see this dog/alien/beast creature bust through the door like a juggernaut] The owner can- [he said this as two stronger doors came down to hinder the beast’s rush] but ironically enough at the rate we’re going we may end up in the control center! But if that thing gets in there, then there’s gonna be more trouble if it tears it up! [He joined the assault with Red and, claws charging harshly, sent a bolt of electrified plasma that would paralyze if hit. (PSI Plasmodium)]
Grey: Well let’s stop it before it gets there, then! [ fires off his own shots off the best he can, though the beast’s smaller stature in its canine form made it a bit of a harder target... ]
[ It just kept charging, leaving inky black stains on the ground as it ran, not daring to look back, making full use of its four legs to run at a slightly faster speed than its pursuers- with the exception of Red, who’s cybernetically-enhanced self ensured he could keep up. The lightning bolt hit it first, causing it to trip and skid a little, but only for a moment- even as sparks covered its being, it just got back up and hobbled towards the doorway the best it could, making use of whatever distance it had gained to try and escape...
Except for the pair of doors coming down in front of it, whereby it whined in a panic, realising it couldn’t turn back, not with its pursuers behind it! It was at this moment that it was struck with the Plasmodium attack in addition to a few more shots from Grey’s rifle, and in addition to the lightning attack from earlier, it seemed to be just too much as the creature shuddered, then collapsed into a puddle of black-ish goop.
Upon seeing this, Grey seemed to slow in his steps, breathing a little more harshly from the exertion of his sprinting. He smiled a little, thinking that perhaps, finally, they had defeated the creature. ]
Grey: ...huff...I think....I think we got it....! [ ....and then the goop moved, specifically it seemed to slowly flow and inch itself towards the door. Too late did Grey catch this happening as he reached for his rifle to shoot again, for the goop had already managed to slide under the doors, evading any further damage for the time being. Grey cursed under his breath and looked around for any cameras, shouting: ]
Grey: Dammit, open these doors! Now, before it escapes-!

[ No sooner had he come to this conclusion than the creature resurfaced….on the other side of the platform, away from where everyone had been massed, where a walkway lead away to the edge of the reactor, where a door presumably lead to the rest of the facility. Grey noticed this out of the corner of his eye and turned quickly to try and fire another rocket- except for the fact that he’d forgotten to reload. ]
Grey: Ah, hell! [ he grunted this in frustration upon hearing the dull click which indicated no ammo as the creature took its chance to sprint along the platform and make its way towards the door. It was clearly trying to escape most likely. Grey decided to just discard the bazooka and just open another pod, which unfolded into a larger-looking laser gun held in two hands, slightly resembling the canon on Red’s arm but with more segmented parts. ] After it! We can’t let this thing escape!
[Red is still focusing so much on scanning the surroundings that he doesn’t see the rumbling coming, and it makes him stumble and almost fall if it wasn’t for the piece of structure he managed to cling to.
As soon as the enemy reappears and Grey seems to be about to shoot it, he remains in his place and doesn’t intervene, albeit while staring closely at the creature’s movements.
And precisely thanks to staring closely at the creature’s movements, he promptly starts sprinting after it in the very same second the thing itself does so. Fortunately for him, and unfortunately for the enemy, his mostly mechanical legs get him pretty far in a pretty short amount of time, and he’s already aiming at attempting to shoot it once again with his cannon.]
Grey: Bloody hell...Geno! Any way to shut off parts of the facility? There’s no way it can get through *every* door-!! [ he barked this as he ran, not stopping for a moment in his pursuit ]

Grey’s order reaches him immediately and he starts scooting over before he’s even done giving it.
He cautiously approaches the edge, right hand raised with a still active cannon just in case, and looks down.
He can’t make out the bottom very well at first, but then the automated part of his brain receives the directive from his organic intentions, and activates a function that increases the quality of his field of vision.
And the bottom certainly looks a bit more detailed, but even then…]

It still tried to lash out at Red, in pain but not incapacitated as it simultaenously tried to dig the tendril that had struck Geno deeper inside, the tentril itself splitting and trying to cause some serious internal damage.
This was stopped however when Grey himself opened another pod- the first had been lost when he’d fallen over the edge- whereby it converted into a futuristic-looking bazooka, of all things, which he promptly aimed at the thick tendril caught in Geno. Firing a thick but portable ballistic shell, the projectile hit the tendril close enough to the main body that the small explosion both severed the tendril- causing it to disintegrate and leave Geno free- and for the creature to reel back from the shock and pain of it, its planned attack on Red (which had involved a sharp spike) missed and left it wide open for another series of attacks. [Also guided by the sudden noise, Red begins approaching from yet another walkway. Following Grey’s course of action, and upon getting a better view of whatever creature this was, he goes for a rather acrobatic jump towards the precise platform on which it landed.
He seems to be used to it, like he has already moved that way before, like he was specifically trained for it. Before even landing next to the intruder, he activates his arm cannon in mid-air and shoots.
Even while backflipping, his mechanical half should calculate the trajectory accurately and it should hit. It’s a kind of weak attack compared to the other things he can do but, considering the vulnerable state the reactor is in, it might be risky to try the more lethal moves near it. [After a few minutes of running down the corridors, still conscious of the facility being under siege, Geno stopped at one of the doors, a grand one with multiple locks binding it. Right next to it on the wall was a rectangular key code checker. Since no one but a select few people knew the password to this area of the facility, it was impossible to get in.
And if that weren’t enough, those who weren’t those select few or who didn’t have explicit permission would have been gunned down by security. Seems that Silver temporarily disarmed the drones.
Geno inputted the password that Silver gave, the door giving way with ease.] Alright, it’s past here!
Grey: Woah. [ he said this upon seeing the doors, which were truly a marvel of security technology- he doubted anything could get through, so there was a good chance they could reach the reactor before their quarry had. Hurrying inside, he looked about and whistled a bit.
The station’s reactor core was every bit as impressive as it needed to maintain an installation this size. A doughtnut-shaped chamber filled with walkways and platforms, the edges of the chamber curved outwards, the ‘middle’ of the doughnut which the entire area curved around being occupied by a massive metallic cylindrical structure, itself glowing from within by the streams of pure energy that flowed from it to the rest of the space station. It was enough to light up the entire chamber in a dim greenish-white hue, getting brighter to the reactor they got.
Lightning streaked along the curved walls, huge arcing streams of pure plasma, but they never ventured close enough to the group to be of any harm. Grey nodded. ] Yep, this is one hell of a reactor…blowing this up would probably disrupt the nebula too! Now all we gotta do is wait! [The cyborg takes the -fleeting- time to take a quick look back before entering the chamber as well.
