hi everyone. i really did not want to have to do this, but (as im sure many of you probably assumed) SCKL is officially on an indefinite hiatus. my mom was recently placed in hospice care and i just don’t have the time or energy to slot fanfic into my list of priorities anymore.

i still really love this fic, i’ll still write when i’m able to, and i still hope to finish it one day, i just can’t give it the attention and care i want to give it right now and didn’t want to leave y’all hanging more than i already have. thank you all for reading sckl and giving it so much love! i can’t even begin to describe how much i appreciate all of you. i’m sincerely sorry about this and i hope i’m able to come back sooner than later.

Hi, so I freakin love sckl and because you seem to really love music, I wanted to recommend Jack River. She always reminds me so much of Mazzy Star. If you have time to check it out, Stardust & Rust is my fav, but she's got heaps of good stuff. Anyway, once again, sckl is amazing and I've read the new chapter probably 3 times now haha. Hope life's treating you kindly 😊

i listened to stardust & rust first and something about the way she sings at certain points definitely reminded me of hope sandoval for some reason lol! i also listened to "her smile" and it reminded me a lot of mazzy star, both lyrically and sonically. thanks for the recommendation!

i firmly hold the headcanon that modern corona would love megan thee stallion. in my heart i know this is true.

i think a modern sckl gideon would still massively enjoy 90s music. and i think she'd like meg too! everyone loves megan thee stallion forever and always. pop-punk enjoyer gideon will always be real to me for better or for worse, but like particularly 2000s pop-punk. not going to name any specific bands because i know what many of them were getting up to and i don't want to accidentally name a band thats full of pieces of shit lol. i can also see her enjoying against me! (also i recently heard your god (god's dick) by laura jane grace and i think she'd appreciate it) and aminé. if sckl took place in the 2010s chapter five would have ended with her entering pyrrha's office while playing that one song by the lonely island and akon because i suck and so does she. oh my god and i just know she would love the song knuck if you buck. it's a crime that canon gideon will never hear knuck if you buck. tamsyn there's still time to amend this. i think some of these answers for gideon probably aren't considered "modern" anymore, so sorry lol!

last night my gf and I went to see the actresses of alice & shane from the L word! it was the last stop on their tour for their book that they'd written as a memoir of their friendship and their time on the show.

one thing that they talked about was witnessing lesbian culture shift in real time in response to the show coming out. like, the fashion in lesbian bars was radically different pre- and post- the L word.

I got emotional seeing these women who had told our stories, albeit not perfectly, but with a lot of heart. the room gave them two separate standing ovations too.

I just figured that you might be interested in hearing this, as someone who's seen the show and as an enjoyer of lesbian history. their book is pretty good too!

i haven't kept up with kate and leisha for years even though i used to listen to their podcast all the time lol. i didn't even know they had a book out, so thanks for sharing this with me!

(a personal and all around too sappy anecdote)

i feel like people are always complimenting your representation of butches and butch identity, but i would really love to commend you on your representation of the femme counterpart as well. the spectrum you’ve created between corona and harrow really feel like a deeply understood representation of what lesbians who identify as femme look like, and act like.

honestly, i had been toying with the label for a long time, but felt odd taking it up as i wasn’t sure i fully fit anywhere in the butch femme dichotomy. (no matter how bad i wanted to, which in hindsight should have been a sign.) seeing the representation you created and how no one distinctly needed to say the label but its presence was felt in mentioning coronas hyper femininity as her own form of drag, or the role she takes in her relationship with gideon inspired me to delve deeper into the history, and allowed me to feel more comfortable taking up the label.

modern lesbianism seems to have strayed away from this original dichotomy in mainstream media, and so seeing fan made content like this broaden so many people’s perspectives on their identity is really beautiful and proves it’s importance. (though, i would love to also recommend people read academic journals, and historical books, i understand that it’s not readily accessible to everyone and is often polluted with jargon that may not be friendly to the average reader.) i hope to see more of what you write and inspire in the future, thank you for giving people the space and sharing your own understandings of lesbianism in all its glory.

thank you so much for sharing this with me! it wasn't at all something i expected with sckl, but it means a lot to me to hear that my writing could inspire someone to look further into our history and find themselves there. and i second the recommendation for people to read about the actual history of lesbianism, there is a world of topics sckl hasn't even brushed against yet, and might not at all. above all else, it is meant to be just a silly fanfic at the end of the day!
