Eye for an eye
Sebastian nods tersely and tries not to shudder when he feels Jim’s breath on the back of neck. The very definition of ‘spine-chilling’. He goes to the door and hesitates before turning to Jim. “Turn the window off,”
He doesn’t expect to be obeyed, and of course, he isn’t. So he sighs and opens the door, pushing it open and slipping inside. “Little hen.” he crouches down next to her and looks at the floor. “I’m sorry.”
‘Little Hen’…There had been a few moments - well, basically one very, very long moment - where she had been sure she would never hear this nickname again. She reached out for his hand, but pulls back the very last second before contact is made, terrified of Jim maybe making the decision to roast them both. “This…isn’t your fault. None of this is. I didn’t…pay enough attention. I should have never….never drag you into this. I’m….sorry.” Fuck. It was so hard to say it, but…what else was there to do? Break down, cry, and beg him to save her? There was no way out. Jim had it all planned out. The only way out of there for her would be in a body bag.
“No, no Hettie. It’s my fault. I got my orders wrong. I had orders to kill someone, I was on my way to find out who when I met you, and then Jim told me it was you, and Jim’s client was the guy in the bathroom, the one who tried to get you. It’s not your fault, at all, little hen.” Sebastian tries his hardest to convince the terrified girl in front of him.
He takes her hand, not afraid (a lie) to show his affection when Jim is more than likely still watching.
She looked down at their hands, biting her bottom lip in anticipation of another jolt - but nothing happened. Eventually she looked up at him, almost smiling at the black eye he was still showing off. “I know that…I’m not going to get out of here. But…you know. I’m kinda happy to see you one more time. I didn’t want for you to think I ran away. I’m…well. I wish we had met under….slightly different circumstances. We could have had a lot of fun. And I’d eventually have drunk you under the table…” she paused for a moment, pondering. She had no idea what Jim was up to, why he had given Sebastian a chance to get inside - probably just for his own, sick entertainment. Some more drama before he ended it, just to make the agony even sweeter. In the end, she was dead meat anyway. She leaned in, lightly pressing her lips onto the snipers in a sober, final kiss. It was a good way to go.
Jim had watched, remaining completely motionless behind his wall of bulletproof glass. He was a bit surprised, that much he had to admit. He had expected her to break down, beg, cry, eventually curl up. Yank on her chains, act up, yell, scream, fight....but she did none of the latter. Enough jolts and kicks had hammered one thing into her brain: She was not going to get out of there, not with a pulse. A pleased smirk spread on his face, growing even wider upon hearing their whispered confessions, hearing them blame themselves, his finger nervously hovering above the buttons. He was eager to see more, eager to add pain, angst, eager to fuel her fear, his desperation - and when her lips touched his, the moment had come. Already enjoying the mental image of them jerking apart by the jolt, writhing on the floor, her panicking and blaming herself, eventually breaking down into tears, he pushed the button - with rather surprising results. There was no jolt, there were no screams, no nothing. There was but one thing that happened, and it was by far the worst that could happen to a man whose entire system was built on passwords and data. When Jim pushed the button, nobody got fried. There was a soft sound of an explosion, almost like a lightbulb - and the power shut down, leaving everybody in the dark.
