Heyya guys, either of you know if the Guardians are hiring? Looking for a new gig. Lemme know! xx
“I am Groot.”
“Yeah I dunno, ships kinda cramped as it is, ‘nless you’re planning on hanging out on the ceiling?”
guywhoshrinks:
Scott had gotten off balance when Groot picked him up, and he fell on his bottom. “Yeah, I am small,” he called up to Groot, raising his voice so Groot could hear him. He learned pretty quickly that he had to raise his voice so he could be heard. “You pressed this button on my suit, and that button makes me shrink.”
Button makes him shrink. That was interesting. Carefully, Groot set the small pile of dirt down, then tried tapping the same spot on his own hands. He didn’t have any buttons, but he had knots. Nothing happened though, and he plopped back onto his rear with a grumble.
After a second, he remembered the man who changed sizes. Scrabbling around until he found him again, Groot held his hands out wide. “I am Groot!”
chariotsofthegodsman:
Palmer nodded. “Yeah, pretty exciting, huh?” He got two bowls, pouring each one full of jelly beans, one bag per bowl. Garry wouldn’t be too thrilled to see Palmer sneaking food, but what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. Besides, Palmer’s sweet tooth called.
He sat up, one bowl on his lap. He pushed the other towards Groot. “All yours, little buddy.”
There was a disappointed little mewl as the bags were emptied - it was a lot harder to make off with a bag of candy when the candy wasn’t in the bag.
But he was distracted soon enough by the bowl that was nudged his way. To a small sapling, it was a kings ransom of candy. Groot plopped himself down, a leg either side of the bowl, and shoved both hands into the bowl. The texture was interesting, bumping and sliding over his rough bark. Then, very carefully he picked out a bean and tossed it in his mouth, chomping on it loudly.

Rocket turned his head towards the twig, gentle eyes mirrored soft paws as he pulled the sapling down to lay with him. “I ain’t goin’ anywhere Groot.” Honestly Groot’s bed was bigger than Rocket’s makeshift nest, but Groot didn’t take up that much space and Rocket was too comfortable to move.
One claw gingerly swiped the tear from the twig’s cheek, his paw rubbing soothing circles on Groot’s back. “At least not any time soon, okay bud?” No, Groot was stuck with him for a bit longer, for now at least. “But you know sometimes I gotta go get parts an’ stuff, ‘cause Quill keeps breakin’ ‘em when he does somethin’ stupid and lands us in trouble.” As much as he wanted to take Groot with him, the wayward twig was likely to cause mischief or wander off so it was best to just keep him on the ship with Gamora watching over him. “But I’ll always com back, ya know me, it’s impossible ta get rid of me. Ya stuck with me Groot, simple as that.”
“I am Groot.” Stupid Quill the sapling nodded, giving another little sniffle. He did actually understand the need for pieces and parts to keep their ship in the sky. Not on any kiond of level like Rocket did, but he got it.
Still didn’t mean he liked being left behind. Not by anyone.
“I am Groot?” I can come with you? “I am Groot!” I carry stuff! He perked up a little at the idea, and just to porve he was good at carrying things he picked up the light projector and held it over his head, only wobbling a step either way as the weight threw off his balance.
arkhevia:
She sneered back, unmoved by the story, and rolled her eyes. “I wasn’t gonna do shit, ya little rat. If yer little man wanted t’ run off like some kid after I say hi, I wasn’t exactly gonna hunt him down like prize game. I’m a murderer, not a monster.”
It would still take more than a sad tale to get her to land now, especially with all the threats she was perceiving. Kee wouldn’t hesitate to defend herself from either of these two. The little twig had more than proved himself, and his guardian rodent didn’t look too harmless either. She was rash, and irate, but not entirely an idiot. “You wanna kill me fer bein’ nice, be my guest. Just don’t expect me not t’ fight back.”
“Watch who your callin’ a rat,” Rocket snarled, lip curling. He was sick of it - Quill kept calling him raccoon, Drax called him a thing (or mentioned eating his kind - that was almost worse), and this woman who didn’t know a thing was calling him a rat now.
“Y’know what, stay up there all ya want,” Rocket said loudly, grinning viciously, the expression putting his teeth on display. “Gotta wonder how long ya can. I mean, ya ain’t exactly light, got drag, no thermals ‘round here to keep you up...” He snickered, and Groot pressed both hands over his mouth, laughing too. Rocket wasn’t out to cause a fight, but if the Ravager wanted to be pissed off because she freaked his twig out, then there really just wasn’t anything else for it.
runawayhalfangel:
She smiled and ate a piece of her chocolate. She was happy to share. She got an idea putting a napkin down and breaking the bar in half. She broke each piece into little squares and tied the napkin like a little bag. “Here ya go. You can take some with ya.”
The chocolate was thick in his mouth, the piece too big, really, but that wasn’t going to stop him. He sucked and chewed at it whilst watching the girl curiously. He had no idea what she was doing, but it didn’t seem threatening. And there was more chocolate involved.
“I am Groot!” He said thickly, melted chocolate sticking his tongue to the roof of his mouth some, and grabbed up the parcel, clutching it to his chest.
guywhoshrinks:
Scott glanced at the button when Groot pointed at it. “Uh, yeah, that–” he stopped himself when he realized what Groot was going to do. “Nonono-!” He exclaimed, too late, because Groot pressed the button and he shrank down to ant-size. Now, Groot was big, and Scott was small.
Groot gasped loudly as the very large man shrunk down to be a very very small man in a matter of moments. Bending down, it took a few seconds before Groot could spot him, the tiniest bit of red among the brown dirt.
“I am Groot,” he breathed, and scooped him up gently, a small mound of dirt in his cupped hands, the tiny man on top, and he brought him right up close to his face to look as close as he could.
chariotsofthegodsman:
Palmer noticed that Groot seemed to understand what he was saying and communicate his own wishes well enough, but only seemed able to say “I am Groot”. Not that it mattered too much, as long as they could make each other understood - each “I am Groot” seemed to mean something different. He felt Groot’s bark rub against him.
“Feel nice?: he asked. “I hope it’s warmer in there - don’t want you feelin’ uncomfortable and all.” Honestly, it didn’t feel half bad. Palmer liked the adventurous little guy.
“I am Groot!” So much better. Even if it was kind of claustrophobic and stuffy. It wasn’t rock or stone pressing in on him though, and he couldn’t help thinking of Rocket.
Now that the immediate danger of the frozen land was passed, Groot had to take stock of his actual situation. That being that he was lost a very long long way away from his friends and family and didn’t know how he was going to find them again.
Small hands clutched at the material around him, drawing it in even closer as he gave a sniffle.
aintnothanglikeme:
A twinge of alarm shot through him the moment he felt Groot struggle, paws carefully shifting fabric until the twig could see the lights of the cabin. “Hey, it’s all good, I’m here Groot, I’m here.” One paw gently patted his twig through the fabric, smiling as the sapling wrapped him in a viney hug.
“Still feelin’ a little sleepy or ya up to testin’ out my latest invention?” Rocket was keenly aware of what was lacking in Groot’s care, sunlight. Plants needed water and they needed sunlight to grow, and being stuck in a metal tin-can full or artificial light couldn’t be helping him grow big and healthy, so Rocket had created an alternative.
A large, flat stone sat on his bench, a metal flower ‘growing’ out of it, the yellow flower head facing down to the stone. A Sun Lamp. A device to replicate the sun’s warmth and UV rays as it would feel on the surface of a planet. Basically Groot’s very own sunbathing rock where he could sit or lie down and just bask in sunlight. “Ya just gotta tap the stem to activate it.”
Yawning again, Groot blinked up at Rocket. Definitely still sleepy, but the promise of a new creation was interesting enough to perk him up. He gave Rocket one last squeeze before pulling back and clambering up and over his arm to get to the top of the workbench.
“I am Groot?” What is it?
He walked around the odd piece, looking up at the flower with wide eyes, a hand reaching out to poke at it with one finger. It was metal, not natural, but when Rocket said to touch the stem and he did, the glow that emanated from the center was like the sun. Groot stepped onto the stone under the rays and gave a sigh as his eyes sank shut.
After a few moments small flowers began sprouting from his shoulders, their petals unfurling slowly.
Gamora & Baby Groot
Groot: Mom! Mom!
Gamora: What?
Groot: Hi!
Sorry I didn’t get to replies last night - Tumblr locked me out of this blog for some reason I still don’t know.
* edit - I’ll get to replies tonight, hopefully - have to finish writing a super fun job application selection criteria before I do anything else today.
Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
Sharing
I’m in love with these three. And just how much Groot and Rocket fell in love with Peter’s music. Redraw of something I made when the first movie came out. I
Having this blog is really making me want to figure out drawing well enough to draw Groot, because I have so many pictures in my head that I wish I could share.
Transparent Baby Groot
So since I got the majority of my drafts done last night, I’m throwing out a starter call! Hit the little heart for some Baby Groot, or hmu if you want to plot something!
anxunspokenxthing:
Gamora’s laughter was pure and musical. Seldom did she feel it bubble up, but often Groot brought out the best in her disposition. “Bortasch and carrot are very similar. Hopefully it will work with the podded snaps seeds I’m using to replace pea pods and the rest of the substitutes I’m working through. Luckily potatoes are nearly the same everywhere. Here.”
Offering him two slices of Bortasch root with careful fingers, Gamora side-eyed the young plant being pleased to have his company as she cooked. At least Groot didn’t try to tell her how to do anything as she went about the preparation and cooking of dinner. Drax, the main culprit, and Peter couldn’t seem to help themselves.
“I am Groot!” He took the slices of root and shoved both in his mouth at the same time, making small noises as he chewed awkwardly with a too full mouth. A dribble of juice ran down his chin as he enthusiastically smushed the plant down to be small enough to swallow.
His small feet kicked playfully back and forth, bouncing lightly off of Gamora’s shoulder. If doing this cooking thing was going to get him treats like that he’d spend more time with the others whilst they did it.
“I am Groot,” he announced proudly when he’d finally swallowed the last of it and beamed at Gamora.
