2015 in Black Film: At Least 38 Feature Films Were Released Theatrically - Here’s the Full List http://ift.tt/1Oj9mfS
When people make art from film sets it sort of looks like this.
Directed by: Wills Glasspiegel
‘In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me, over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’ That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black. And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union: Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you to the Television Academy. Thank you.

Talib Kweli: ‘Most people are only worried about sales figures and sales volume. I am worried about you - the people whose money make my dream possible. I want to be able to say thank you, not just to a huge group of anonymous fans, but to specific ones that actually care about my career and the art that I'm sharing with the world.’ I’m interested in the books he sells on the website. From Angela Davis to Paolo Coelho: food for the soul. And if you want to pick Talib Kweli’s brain you can just send an e-mail at [email protected].
White People
MTV is regaining its relevance by addressing issues in society. 16 and Pregnant is an example of MTV’s influence on a major problem: teen pregnancy. Instead of promoting abstinence, they let the horror stories speak for themselves. Researchers found that 16 and Pregnant led to more searches and tweets regarding birth control and abortion, and ultimately led to a 5.7 percent reduction in teen births in the 18 months following its introduction. This accounts for around one-third of the overall decline in teen births in the United States during that period.
A new MTV production is called ‘White People’, and it deals with other hard-to-talk-about subjects: racial bias and whiteness. Be sure to check it out when it airs on Wednesday, July 22 on MTV (in the US that is, no mention on the Dutch MTV website). OR you can also check it out on MTV.com, the MTV App, MTV’s Facebook page or YouTube channel. And , if you miss that, you can still get it Thursday (July 23) morning on iTunes, Amazon and MTV’s Video On Demand services.
There’s much controversy about the trailer, but I think we should first watch the &*^$@ thing before we draw any conclusions. Let the constructive conversation begin!

HIP HOP MEETS SILENT FILM: Z-TRIP
Hip hop visits the 1920s thanks to the Tribeca Film Festival and one of the best turntablists in the game Zach “Z-Trip” Sciacca. Never saw anything like this before. And it is funny too!
