hello! i'm from central europe (czech republic) and i'm NON-BINARY. our legislation doesn't allow for mastectomy (top surgery) unless you have confirmation of being transexual (which is further conditioned by having to undergo the whole transition process including sterilization and hormone therapy). i'm looking for (experienced) SURGEONS in europe who work with non-binary people (aka i dont need the transexualism confirmation), do you know of any? thanks for any answer, have a nice day! :)
Ahoj! :)I’m looking through the questionnaire (about transitioning in Europe) and most of the surgeons requires a referral stating that you’re trans. Apparently you can do it in Finland without any diagnosis, but no one mentions any specific doctors or clinics. In France and Germany it depends on a doctor. One that didn’t need a referral and is experienced in top surgery is Joachim Grabin Mannheim, Germany.Just to be sure, what do you mean by confirmation of being transsexual? I didn’t get any answers from Czech Republic, so I don’t know how transitioning goes there, but for example in Poland you need to get a diagnosis first to start hormones and proceed further with transition. Is it not possible to reach a point where your doctor says “I diagnose you as transsexual”, ask for a referral stating just that and then never show up for next appointments? Or do you start HRT first and only then get the diagnose?Followers, if you’ve any information about such doctors, please share.- Mod Adam
thanks so much for the answer. (i haven’t used tumblr in a while so i hope answering this way will reach you :))
i think we have similar situation with poland? if you are trans and want to go through transition, you’ve got to do all the steps. like i wrote earlier, the legislation won’t allow you to go only through a part of the transition (say: you wanted only the mastectomy. or go on hrt without genital surgery - it’s just not possible). we even have compulsory sterilization. if you don’t mean to follow up on all the steps, they won’t give you perscription for hrt, i think. (there’s a lot of stuff and i get a bit confused about it all sometimes). so it’s very hard to do anything for non-binary people (first, the insurance wouldn’t cover it and second, even if you had the money, there’s no surgeon to do the surgery without a diagnosis (be it diagnosis with “transexualism” or for example for the mastectomy you need either transexualism or cancer or something health endangering). (i think i may have used the word “confirmation” wrong back then, i meant diagnosis - you just gotta have your health problem printed black on white to be valid). i’ll try to clear it up a bit in the following part (aka the steps of transitioning in czech rep):
1. so anyway: the first step is going to sexuolog (you gotta be over 18 yo). there you talk about what you want and what are your options. they are the only people who can prescribe you hrt. (you keep going there for some while, it’s not a one-day visit)
2. for getting the diagnosis you need the confirmation from two people - meaning: to get diagnosed as a transexual (without this diagnosis you won’t be able to go on hrt or get any surgeries) you need to get one “review” (posudek, sorry don’t know the right word) from your sexuolog and the second you get from psychologist (yes, more doctors, hurray). once you get the nod from both of these people, you are officialy diagnosed as transexual and thus you can get to the transitioning part.
(3. some sexuologs demand RLE/RLT - real life experience/test, tho not all of them)
4. after (at least) 3 months of visiting the sexuolog, you can get the HRT prescribtion. (after you run by few doctors + FtM people also gotta go visit gynecologist).
5. neutral name (no, you can’t have female or male form, it’s gotta be totally gender neutral) - it’s a very annoying and in many eyes useless step... but it’s the rules
6. now comes the fun part: COMITTEE - the requirments are different, you can go there for example after being on hrt for 12 months or 15 months of sexuolog visits and so on). there you sign the paper you wanna have surgeries and they’ll either accept or decline your request. they give you the answer right there, so there’s no long waiting.
7. surgeries - FtM: hysterectomy, mastectomy and phalloplasty. MtF: orchiectomy or vaginoplasty. ALTHOUGH, compulsory are only the sterilizing ones - hysterctomy for FtM, orchiectomy for MtF.
8. FINALLY YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR NAME (haha, soon, right?) and have your gender changed in you ID card.
(steps 3-6 can be in different order i think)
hope i cleared some of the information i’ve thrown out earlier and that it all makes at least a bit of a sense.
and as you can see, NB people have only two options: either you wanna do the whole transition (hrt, sterilization, name change) and thus go lying to your doctors that you are FtM or MtF, or you don’t wanna/need the whole transition in which case there’s nothing you can do about your body and you just gotta go on living like the gender you were assigned at birth. there’s no partial transition option (and there doesn’t seem to be a change in legislation coming in the close future since we can’t even get the parliament to agree to gay weddings...)
