I just saw a 56-year-old man crying in an interview after the shooting at Borderline in Thousand Oaks. He was apologizing over & over for surviving when kids were shot and killed. He said “I’ve lived my life, I’m 56 years old. I’m sorry.” “I should have stayed. … I’m 56. They’re young. This is about all those black creatives who could never get funding because no one with money believed there was an audience for their weirdness. This is about pride and representation, for the ones who got us here and the young ones who will take us further. This is about Stan Lee and Jack Kirby who in the 60's decided to create an image of Africa that went against ever popular notion of the time. It's about Christopher Priest, the first black man to write for the character, and Ta-Nehisi Coates, who is on his own fantastic run.
