It‘s hard living in a body that wants to live so bad with a mind that wants to die even more.
Astrology for Beginners & Skeptics
Written by your Coven Leader, Chance
My favorite way to explain astrology is to start from the beginning. How did it start? Humans have been looking up at the stars and oohing and ahhing since the dawn of time. Way way back in the day though, we noticed something very peculiar. The planets all move over very select constellations as they make their way through the sky. We named these planets & constellations and gave them stories and personalities based on how they related to things on Earth. It was said that together, the planets and stars weaved a story. Astrology is taking apart the sky to tell the story of You.
So, now we get into how astrology works. What people commonly call your zodiac sign is actually what constellation the Sun was in when you were born. So if your sign is based off of planets, then that means you also have a moon sign, saturn sign, pluto sign, etc. Here is how and why the sun and moon affect you and what they mean.
-
SUN: ego, outer self, personality
Why does the Sun represent the ego?: Think about associations. It is our main planet in the sky, and the ego is our main self. The sun projects its rays like a person projects their personality. Its energies are dominant and forthcoming.
MOON: emotions, inner self
Why does the Moon represent your emotions?: The moons phases wax and wane like an emotion comes and goes. When you express an emotion, it bubbles up, you express it, and it fades away. Just like how the sun illuminates the moon, letting it shine up to being full, then brings it back to a new moon in darkness like letting go of an emotion. The moon also controls the tides, which act much like our emotions as well. The element water is associated with emotions, so the moon and your emotions go hand in hand.
(There are many ways to look at the moon and sun and different cultures and religions view them differently, this post is not an exhaustive list of associations, I encourage researching more to get a rounded view of the planets.)

By now you should have a basic feel of how we draw associations with the different planets and how they affect you. So here’s a basic feel for the rest of the planets.
MERCURY: how you think and communicate
VENUS: love and pleasure
MARS: actions and reactions
JUPITER: expansion and intellect
SATURN: work and discipline
URANUS: creativity and rebellion
NEPTUNE: imagination and dreams
PLUTO: transformation and change
But there’s not just planets! There’s also your rising sign which is what constellation was on the horizon the moment you were born. Your rising sign is how you appear to other people.

Each zodiac constellation will be mixed with different planets for every person, creating a unique blend of attributes which makes it hard to pin down just one explanation for how each sign acts. However here’s a little bit about how the signs work.
The signs are split up into four elements and three types: Fire, Air, Water, and Earth; Mutable, Cardinal, and Fixed. Mutable signs are very go with the flow, Cardinal signs take action, and Fixed signs can be quite stubborn.
Here’s a look at the basics of each sign, their element, and type.
ARIES: Cardinal, Fire. The Ram. Impulsive, independent.
TAURUS: Fixed, Earth. The Bull. Sensual, stubborn.
GEMINI: Mutable, Air. The Twins. Dynamic, playful.
CANCER: Cardinal, Water. The Crab. Sensitive, friendly.
LEO: Fixed, Fire. The Lion. Prideful, creative.
VIRGO: Mutable, Earth. The Virgin. Successful, clever.
LIBRA: Cardinal, Air. The Scales. Indecisive, adventurous.
SCORPIO: Fixed, Water. Dominant, self-reliant.
SAGITTARIUS: Mutable, Fire. Loving, open-minded.
CAPRICORN: Cardinal, Earth. Hardworking, straightforward.
AQUARIUS: Fixed, Air. Innovative, eccentric.
PISCES: Mutable, Water. Dreamy, intuitive.
