“Must you wake me up this early?”
“Yup, now up! I made breakfast.”
xlockhart replied to your post “When Grace enters Olivia's office, she'll find her best friend fast...”
Olivia hums softly and turns into Grace. "Grace? That you?"
“Yeah, it’s me.” She smiles, moving her hand to the other’s shoulder and squeezing. “You livin’ here now?”
When Grace enters Olivia's office, she'll find her best friend fast asleep on the couch.. again.
And Grace, being the awesome friend she is, draws a little moustache on Olivia’s face before she throws a blanket over her and sits beside her, fingers carding through her best friends hair.
Will knows where Grace works now and whilst he doesn't want to come off as some weird stalker who threatened to kill her once, he does want to make things right. So Will? He's got a cup of coffee and is sliding it along her desk at the library. "My name is Will."
Grace’s heart nearly stops when she sees him again. She wants to run, but she can’t because she’s alone and there’d be nobody in the library to keep things going. She eyes the coffee -- not trusting it to not be poison just yet. If he’d been willing to shoot her -- what’s to say he wasn’t willing to do that?
“What do you want?”
grxcesherman | She hasn't even bothered knocking before letting herself in because when you're frightened and wound up? Knocking is the last thing on your mind. "Olivia." She calls out, voice trembling. She's not even warned her friend that she's coming "Olivia, are you home?"
Olivia’s concerned face appears just seconds after grace calls. “Grace? What’s wrong?”
xlockhart:
“What? Oh my god! When did this happen? Did you tell Troy?”
“No, no. I came straight to you-”
“He kept calling me Janet. I thought he was going to kill me there and then.”

"Olivia--” Grace is quick to move over and hug her best friend. Right now -- she needs safety and, while anyone would think she’d go to Cliff for that -- Grace is much more comfortable going to Olivia.
“I’ve just had a man corner me with a gun.”
The fear that’s so obvious within this woman hits Will straight the way. That’s all it takes for him to truly realise what it is he’s doing. For a moment his mind is taken to Janet and how she’d react to him acting this way. That’s what hurts – knowing that his actions would disappoint the woman he loved. His actions, what he’s doing right now, this isn’t him. This isn’t the true Will Zimmerman and he’s ashamed of himself. Pointing a gun at an innocent woman? It’s almost monstrous. Instantly, he drops the gun and it falls to the ground. He looks at his shaking hands as if they were a mirror and, well, he doesn’t even recognise himself.
“I’m…god, I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” It’s not just his hands which are shaking now. It’s his voice, too. And Will knows…oh he knows that he’s breaking. “I wouldn’t hurt you. I couldn’t.”
When the gun falls to the floor -- Grace knows she should feel relaxed, but she doesn’t. She’s still trembling, still frightened of him and what he could do to her. He could so easily break her -- and he....well he wouldn’t have to try at all. Her hands press themselves flat against the wall behind her and she knows that if and when she can, she needs to get away from him. The Thyme and Tide isn’t too far --- but then again; he’s probably staying there. So that isn’t an option.
“I--” His apology makes little difference. She does feel a little less on edge; but she’s still terrified. She can also see he’s hurting, but she’s frozen to her spot.
“You need help.”
There’s a laugh which escapes him but it’s not one of humour, no. It’s disbelief – it’s pain and hurt and denial and…anger. And what Will does next, well, it’s not something he would ever normally do. But right now? Will isn’t thinking straight and this woman in front of him is confusing him to the point of insanity. He reaches for his belt and pulls out his gun, pointing it straight at ‘Grace’ with nothing but seriousness in his face and voice. “What are you? I’d say a Magoi because you’re a damn good copy of my Janet but…but Magoi’s don’t act like this. So come on, out with it. What are you because this isn’t fair!”
Oh god. This guy’s crazy -- and not in the good way. Grace’s hands come up and she’s backing up, frightened. She’s not trained like Janet -- all she is....is a librarian and while she doesn’t take any nonsense -- having a gun pointed at you is completely different and fr more terrifying than the movies make it look.
“I’m Grace.“ she’s searching for people to help her visually, more so hen her back hits a wall “--I’m a librarian! I don’t know what.....what a Magoo is! I don’t know who you or Janet are and--- Oh god, none of this is gonna make any difference, is it? You’re gonna kill me-”
“I don’t want something to drink – just stop playing games with me! Stop it! Just…just stop it and tell me that you’re her, that you’re not Grace whatever and that you are Doctor Janet Fraiser. My Janet.”
“I can’t tell you that. I wish I could --- but my name is Grace Sherman and I’ve lived here all my life.” A pause, and she looks out onto the water for a few seconds before back to him “I’m sorry for your loss-- but I can’t pretend to be someone I’m not.”
“No. No your name is Janet and I thought you were dead.”
“I have no idea who that is, I’m sorry. I....think you should sit down. I’ll get you something to drink.”
“Sorry buddy, you got the wrong girl. My name’s Grace. Grace Sherman.”
grxcesherman | Grace is doing the not answering the door thing because of Cliff today.
“Grace?” Sam’s getting nervous as she knocks on the door again. “It’s Sam…can you…can you open the door?”
Sam is the first to come to the door that she hasn’t ignored completely when they’ve shouted through. She’s in her pyjamas when she comes and unlocks the door. She doesn’t open it, though, and just walks back to where she’d been curled up wih her daughter’s teddy bears in an armchair
She's forgotten to put all the pictures of Janet away when Grace stops by the Thyme and Tide. She goes to greet the other woman and gives her a small smile. "Hey! You don't have to check up on me, you know, as nice as it is. Believe me, Peggy and Bob are already doting enough."
Grace is quick to notice them and very, very suddenly she feels a lot less secure about how close they’ve been getting. She barely hears Sam’s words.
“That’s her. That’s Janet, isn’t it?”
warriorxscholar:
Sam sighs and shakes her head. “We have kids. Losing her was…devastating, for both of them, and I…I’ve tried to be strong for both of them, but none of them have been able to…god I just need a hug.”
“Then why don’t you stop being so stubborn and come get a hug?”

warriorxscholar:
“I don’t…I don’t know,” she murmurs, leaning against the dresser and pressing her weight a bit too much into her hands. “Maybe? But I don’t know if…you don’t have to be the one to do it.”
“I don’t seem to remember giving that option.” Grace responds, noting how tense Sam is when she sets her hands on the dresser. She moves to sit on the bed, leaning against the headboard as she watches Sam.
“Yes or no?”

warriorxscholar:
Sam isn’t sure how to answer the question. She does, but she’s still so hurt, and Grace has put her on edge. She takes a few deep breaths to stabilize herself. Brave little soldier Sam, she reminds herself, don’t cry.
“It’s fine. I’m okay.”
“That’s bullshit.” Grace has a daughter and she is more than used to this game -- the ‘i’m fine’ game. It doesn’t work. Grace has a best friend, too -- and Olivia’s just as bad for trying it on with her.
“If you’re gonna tell me you’re fine, do it when you haven’t just gone on a tangent and nearly broken down. Now answer my uestion - yes or no: Do you need to be held?”
She's forgotten to put all the pictures of Janet away when Grace stops by the Thyme and Tide. She goes to greet the other woman and gives her a small smile. "Hey! You don't have to check up on me, you know, as nice as it is. Believe me, Peggy and Bob are already doting enough."

“That’s her. That’s Janet, isn’t it?”
“False hopes?! You don’t want me flinging to false hopes?! There are none, don’t you worry! I have absolutely no hope at all. I haven’t since the day her 2IC declared her dead on arrival! Janet is dead, Grace. Do you need to hear me say it? She’s dead. She’s never coming back. I am never going to get to hold her again, or tell her I love her, or see the way her smile lit up every room she stood in, how her kindness was the best medicine of all…so don’t you dare tell me that I am clinging to false hopes, because my life is empty without her in it, understand me? And I will never stop feeling that emptiness, ever.”
Grace has to bite back a sob as she lets Sam get her feelings out in the open. She knows it’s just grief speaking -- but that doesn’t make this any easier. It doesn’t make it any less painful. She wants to move over there and hug Sam, but she isn’t sure how welcome that’s going to be so she just lets Sam vent -- lets her let loose and she doesn’t fight back. But she doesn’t apologise either.
When Sam’s done, she waits a while -- gives her time to cool off a little before she speaks, before she offers the olive branch.
“Do you need to be held?”

“Look, I didn’t mean to make you feel uncomfortable. Obviously I should have just left.” She stands and instantly starts stuffing her clothes back into the duffel bag all her things had traveled in. “Just give me an hour and I’ll be out of your life.”
“Sam, No!” Grace doesn’t know what to say. Any words she does try to say get caught in her throat and…well, guilt added to hurt isn’t very helpful when you want to talk to someone “Sam, I’m–I just don’t want you clinging to false hopes.”
