gswmyunghwa:
( . . . )
“i knew it, that’s why i called.” initially it started off as just a hobby. myunghwa, perhaps unlike others, was absolutely the type to purchase a book based off its cover. the wine she bought was similar. marketing ploys, selling a story behind the fermented elixir was enough to tempt her and her wallet. some bottles lining her wall were mementos of travels. others were merely aesthetically pleasing, the display adding a hint of sophistication that myunghwa rarely displayed. “but you should take whatever you like then. there is no way i’ll ever be able to finish all these and i always end up getting bottles wherever i go. you can dazzle your guests next time you have a dinner party.”
more often than not, miri was against the idea of charity. unpaid events at the daycare? wasting precious time to help others? wasting money on others when you could be spoiling yourself instead? none of it called to miri. it semmed pointless and wasteful. but, when miri was on the receiving end she was all to happy to jump at the opportunity to receive things that she would never be able to afford for herself. it wasn’t really charity though, was it? she was simply giving things in need a new home. myunghwa had all too quickly found her way right to the centre of miri’s heart through their shared materialistic tendancies. perhaps that was why their friendship seemed to work.
she smiled sweetly as she swirled the wine around in her glass, admiring the deep red colour for a moment before downing the contents in one quick gulp. even if it wasn't her usual drink of choice miri wasn't about to complain about her favourite pastime; drinking until she forgot.
"you're too sweet, myunghwa dearest." she let out a soft laugh, uncurling herself from where she had planted herself on the couch so she could pour another glass. "you know, you're always more than welcome to stock any shelves at my house if you ever get tired of shopping for yourself, not that i have anyone that i need to be impressing." though the suggestion may have come off as a joke, miri was all too serious about it, hoping that just maybe myunghwa would remember her words next time she found herself browsing.
