you will never catch me not thinking critically about the fictional characters I enjoy. that’s a part of the fun, to actually THINK about stuff!

I will also always poke fun at them. and I will never take them deathly seriously because few things make me cringe as hard in fandom as people having genuine crashouts over takes they disagree with, and going to war for their fictional faves. it’s just so tedious, and makes the fandom experience feel very childish, which is not something I personally am here for.

it saddens me to see people treat “xyz said something I didn’t like about my fave!” crashouts as normal and people talking critically about the fandom experience as an adult as “raging” or some such. it really does make me feel like I’m surrounded by adult toddlers, and that’s just not something I gravitate towards.

I think it would be neat if we could resurrect some old fandom etiquette aspects, like seeing a take I disagree with and just scrolling past. or being able to discern whether a post warrants in-depth discussion or is not worth the time and effort, or just simply is not the type of post inviting such discussion or criticism. people are so entitled and impolite these days, and are apparently forgetting how to exist in human society, be it online or offline.

if you’re an adult and you genuinely think someone is a cruel person in real life just because they made an unserious shitpost online about your favourite made up character and you didn’t like it, I legitimately think it points to some kind of larger issue. if you cannot see the sheer ridiculousness of this kind of behaviour, I genuinely don’t know how to help you.

the older I get the more realise that the Coaches (and when I say Coaches I mean the Foxes and Trojans coaches SPECIFICALLY) are my favourite characters in AFTG. because David Wymack? my absolute GOAT?? and don’t get me started on James motherfucking Rhemann. because him and Adi? the little house?? the beat up car? the VEGETABLE GARDEN?

not tagging this so people don’t perish of a heart attack but I think the Sunshine Court trilogy fandom in particular attracts a certain type of person. I think a lot of them project very, very heavily on Jeremy Knox specifically, and not in a healthy way, so they take everything said about him extremely personally and feel that they get hurt and attacked personally whenever someone so much as makes a light-hearted joke on their fave’s expense. not saying all of TSC trilogy fans are like that btw! just that I’ve noticed a trend pertaining to a certain type of TSC fan.

if you legitimately think someone poking fun at a fictional character makes them an awful person in real life you need to take a step back.

if you cannot tell the difference between fiction and reality you need professional help.
