Aryll smiled sadly, gently gripping his hand, then paused for a moment. âB-but I miss her⊠Weâre never gonna be able to do all the stuff we used to together⊠Wh-why did such a bad thing happen to such a good person?â
Was this all the gods had planned for their lives? Grieving one death after another? Why bother forming a relationship if everyone is just going to grow old and die and leave you all alone, only for yourself to be forgotten?
Aryll! What are you saying? This isnât you! The people around you are what make life worth living!
Feeling conflicted and confused, she rested her head on the manâs shoulder, wiping her nose.
"If it helps, I promise that I wonât leave you⊠and I am a man who always stays true to his word. Just ask your brother; he knows that for sure."
Daphnes held Aryll closer to him, rubbing her back soothingly. âYou are not alone, Aryll. You will never be alone, even if you cannot see your loved ones⊠because they will always watch over you. Your brother felt the same way when I had left him⊠I thought I had done him a favor by staying behind in Hyrule. But I hadnât realized just how close our bond truly was.â
Aryll smiled sadly in comfort, hugging the king tightly. "Thank you, Daphnes..." His words were extremely comforting to her. Maybe she wasn't so alone.
~
They day had arrived, just like she knew it would. It was odd, everything from the sky to the single grains of sand seemed gray, pale. As if they were upwind of an oncoming storm. The air seemed chillingly bitter, as an unsteady breeze ruffled the leaves of the trees.
It had been put off a while for Link and the pirates to arrive, as they didn't want them to have to miss it, it would devastate the boy.
The woman in the painted boat was dressed in a traditional evening gown, prepped for the journey to ultimate peace.
what will be the first meme of 2014
letâs make it this.Â
Aryll sat at the edge where the beach and grass met, absently twirling her toes in the scalding sand. It had happened mere hours ago, the thing she had feared since the day her brother had left.
Her grandmother had been dreadfully ill for quite sometime, despite the weakâŠ
A Greater Loss @surprisinglydullwitted
Aryll kept her head low, averting her eyes from the concerned dragon. She clutched her knees to her chest and kept her head low, trying to keep herself from crying again, she didnât want to make him upset too. âI justâ,â her voice was quiet and dry from disuse, she felt the tears sting her eyes once again, and sunk her head between her knees. She held in a sharp breath before letting out quiet sobs.
Her Grandmother was gone. The woman who had cared for and loved her unconditionally will never return to her again. Never again will Aryll hear her kind, motherly voice. Or have her arms wrap around her again. Every loving memory of her grandmother was now a hammer crushing the remains of her heart into bitter pieces. Her brother was miles away, her grandmother was at peace, she was all alone.
She looked up at the dragon at last, her face red and puffy as she wiped her nose. The sunny sky seemed abnormally gray.
"G-grandmaâŠ"
Daphnesâ blue eyes widened slightly, his usual calm expression replaced with one of shock. He had quickly put two and two together in his mind, and now understood what had left the cheerful young girl so heartbroken and sad.
"Aryll⊠oh, Aryll, my dear⊠I am so sorry." He shook his head, promptly summoning forth a bit of his power; a simple transformation spell to revert to his Hylian form. He hesitated at first afterwards, but knelt down onto the sand and gently gathered the girl into his arms. "Iâm so sorryâŠ"
He felt horrible inside, knowing that Link and Aryll had just lost the one person who had raised them all this time⊠the person who raised them into the sweet and loving children he had come to know.Â
Aryll buried her face into Hylianâs chest, staining his robe with hot tears, her cries muffled as she wrapped her arms around him. The tears she had been holding in since the death of her Grandmother flooded from her eyes.
What was she to do? She was barely nine years of age and there was no one left for her. Link was gods-know-where, her Grandmother was gone forever, and her parents are completely out of the question. She was all alone, she felt as though she were stranded in a canoe in the middle of the Great Sea with nothing but the seagulls to keep her company. Completely helpless as though the gods themselves have given up on her. What was she and her brother to do?
Then it hit her, her brother doesnât even know yet.
She stopped sobbing, lifting her head from the kingâs robes. âBrother!â
"Do not worry about your brother, Aryll⊠I will notify him of what has happened here only if you want me to. I will deliver that message without fail; I swear it."
Daphnes carefully tilted her chin up with his hand so she was looking at him. âBut for now, I think that you should take care of yourself first⊠your grandmother is now at peace and is watching over you. I have been to the world beyond this one myself; and I assure you that she is no longer in pain. She is surely thinking of you and Link right now.â He gently wiped away her tears with his thumb. âAnd she would not want you to be so sad⊠Sadness is not what eases the hearts of those who have passed on. Happiness is. You are still allowed to grieve, but it wouldnât do for you to grieve foreverâŠâ
Aryll smiled sadly, gently gripping his hand, then paused for a moment. "B-but I miss her... We're never gonna be able to do all the stuff we used to together... Wh-why did such a bad thing happen to such a good person?"

My muse has been missing for awhile, and yours comes across them laying unconscious on the ground, bloody and bruised. What does your muse do?

"Itâs New Years?! Quickly, someone kiss me!!"
Aryll smiled and kissed the captain's cheek. "Happy New Year Miss Tetra!"
Happy New Year!
I still got an hour, but Happy New Year!

Aryll sat at the edge where the beach and grass met, absently twirling her toes in the scalding sand. It had happened mere hours ago, the thing she had feared since the day her brother had left.
Her grandmother had been dreadfully ill for quite sometime, despite the weak smile and the empty reassurances, Aryll could see in her eyes her beloved Grandma was not well. She tried to brush it off as just an overstayed fever, that the elder would be right as rain in no time and she'll be her old self again. When Sturgeon advised that she stay in bed for a while, it wasn't that easy. Unless it was to get something she need, Aryll never left her side for a second. She lay down next to her and read aloud, or feed her soup when her strength was fading. At nights when her grandmother fell asleep she would feel tears sting her eyes and stain her cheeks as she would stroke her hair gently. She couldn't help but think this would be a lot easier if her brother was still here.
Sue Belle and Abe had been kind enough today to come by to help Aryll with attending to the sickly woman. Aryll had heard Sue Belle mumble and whisper. She couldn't make out the words but she knew it was panicked. She got down the ladder only to be hurriedly shooed out the door by Abe.
Aryll may be a child, but she is certainly not stupid.
The entire island was now crowding in or around her house, too preoccupied with the news to notice the shattered heart in the sand.

⌠- If youâd like our characters to be friends.
((Aryll still hasnât quite grasped the whole âthe boat is the Hylian kingâ thing, but she still enjoys him ^^))
"This might seem weird, but I wanna thank you for helping my brother save me." Aryll confessed, handing him a small shark tooth necklace she had made. It wasnât much, she knew, but after hearing most of the story she wanted to give him something for everything he had been through.
âI donât see why not.â He knelt down in front of the gull, holding his hand out cautiously and making sure to not make sudden movements. He didnât want to frighten it. âDo you have another Hyoi Pear with you?â He asked, smiling warmly at her.
"I do!" She said, pulling a Hyoi Pear out of her satchel and presenting it to him. She always tried to have plenty on her. As of late, her seagull friends had been her only company. Her brother was out on another magnificent journey, and her Grandmother was not doing very well, so she turned to the skies for friends, and a comforting escape from the painful reality, despite not knowing it herself. Despite the many nice folk on the island, Aryll felt rather lonely.
Daphnes took it into his hand before he lowered it in front of the seagull. He knew gulls tended to be flighty; they had to be, or else they would be eaten by a predator such as the large Kagarocs that always harassed them. The gesture reminded him of when he was a young boy, and how he would feed the doves that lingered in the palace gardens. One of them always built a nest just outside his bedroom window every year, raising its young each Spring.
The seagull seemed cautious of the stranger, but itâs desire for the citrus in his hands seem to overpower that sense of nervousness. It gently plucked the fruit from him and ate it in a swift bite. âI think heâs starting to get used to you!â She said excitedly.
"And here I thought I was always frightening to everyone⊠including the gulls." Daphnes chuckled. "Though being a boat with the face of a dragon never helped with that." He stayed completely still, keeping his palm open while he glanced at Aryll from the corner of his eye. "Though to a gull, I must be a bit more intimidating than you, correct?"
Aryll giggled. "I suppose, that's just because you're you this tall though." She said, standing on her tip toes to reach the top of his head. She knew that she always felt intimidated by big and tall things, so it was probably the same for animals. "But you're really nice, so they don't mind much."
Tetra sits down beside Aryll in the look out, waiting for the fireworks to start. "Are you ready for the new year?" The captain smiles widely at the girl.
Aryll looks up at the captain with a bright smile. âOh yes! I canât wait! This is my favorite part of the New Yearâs festival!â She exclaimed. Every year on Outset, the people hold a spectacular celebration, filled with colorful lights and costumes. They hold a feast out on the beach, where they all play and laugh and socialize, recapping the events of the previous year, and announcing what is to come the next. Aryll canât believe that this will be Joelâs last year before coming of age. They set out lanterns off the water, lighting up the dark depths of the sea as they drift out to the horizon. They hold a marvelous dance number with booming music and costumes. Then, when the last lantern disappears behind the horizon, they light up the fireworks. This year, however, was extra special. This year they all celebrated even more to remember Linkâs quest along the Great Sea, and to welcome Tetra and her pirate crew to the island. âHow do you like it so far?â
"Itâs wonderful." The pirate captain said warmly at the girl. "Iâve never really celebrated New Yearâs like this before.." Tetra and her crew were almost always off shore so they wouldnât celebrate the New Yearâs or sometimes forget about it completely. The girl favorite part so far was the lanterns. Their warm glow on the ocean, as they drifted away, was absolutely beautiful. Who knew such a small island could celebrate so largely. "The crew and I are very appreciative that you invited us to stay."
Aryll raised a brow, keeping her smile. "Of course! How could we not!? After all you did for me and my big brother," she handed Tetra an unlit sparkler. "you're family now!" She said warmly, patting the captain on the leg. After the few months she had known Tetra, she had already become a big sister to the islander (Gonzo had also become somewhat of the 'crazy uncle'). Despite the circumstances of how they met, she was so very glad the pirates had come into their lives.
