Weâll have to move fast here, so follow close.â They had to take the tracks for a while, and while they may not be used much, she didnât like staying down there longer than necessary.Â
âIâm⌠not though.â He didnât want to say he didnât know what that was, but he was pretty sure just shy of admitting he wasnât from this world wasnât a good idea. He wasnât sure he wanted to know what this lady was talking about.
Yoru followed as closely as his could and ran as fast as his little legs could go. If only he was older, heâd have a much easier time getting places. He stumbled a few times, but managed to not trip. Hopefully theyâd get wherever they were going soon.
âThatâs okay too.â Gail glanced back to make sure the kid was following close enough. âItâs easier on your parents that way. Did one of them do your hair?â
They were moving slower than Gail normally liked to, but she could still see the spot where they would have to climb back up. It was a bit tall for the kid, but he looked easy enough to lift. Just not for long distances. âItâs not much farther.â

It would seem he had taken quite the wrong turn on his arrival to this world. Darkness did not bother him, but tunnel systems were not exactly easy to navigate, even less so when he was certain he could hear some form of train every so often.Â
He would simply have to proceed with cautious, that was all. He sensed no Heartless, so it would be safe. At least from creatures jumping out at him from the dark with the attempt to steal his heart.
Why were so many people wandering the subway system on foot these days? She understood the occasional homeless person, but it was happening more often lately.
Maybe it was because of the holidays.
When Gail found the latest trespasser, she was caught off guard. She normally told people to leave as soon as she saw they were someone she didn't recognize, but this was an old man. Maybe he was just lost.
A closer look revealed eyes that reminded her of what she saw in a mirror. They were a color that scared most people off. Eyes were one of the first things she checked with new people. Not everyone had found each other right away, and some had split off over the months.

Due to the fact that the Night-Breed mostly consists of a bunch of homeless teenagers, they do not eat good meals. Most of the food they steal is stuff with a long shelf life that doesn't need to be cooked. Chips, cereal, crackers, stuff like that.
There was a scare with scurvy though once and they've been good about getting enough vitamin C ever since. So many stolen oranges. Mostly canned. They're lucky one of the White kids was so obsessed with pirates growing up.

It was still too light outside for Gail to go unprotected, but she was determined to prove that she could go out on simple tasks by herself. If she didnât, her parents would never let her move out when she was old enough. The goal was groceries, but if she didnât make it, she could try again later.
But she could totally do this.
She just covered herself in sunblock and shrouded herself in darkness. Her focus was more on getting some fresh fruit safely than on what was going on around her.Â
Though part of her knew that most people probably found it strange or frightening to see a cloud of darkness the size of a human moving down the sidewalk.Â
A mass of darkness leisurely making its way down the street was strange, but Fumikageâs morbid curiosity compelled him to investigate. There would likely be no point to it, since the chances of it being someone with a quirk were incredibly high. Unfortunately for him, his own quirk was nagging at him to get closer. Darkness, as troublesome as it could be, was a comfort in moderation.
âPardon me,â he managed to speak up as he drew closer to the cloud, âI donât mean to impose, butâââ
Sheepish and embarrassed, the high-school student watched as Dark Shadow left his chest and poked at the edges of the dark cloud with his own, shadowy appendage. He felt it was obvious why he had followed her, and didnât feel the need to explain in detail.
Gail turned to look at the person speaking, though it wasn't immediately obvious. Not until she lowered the density of the cloud a short moment later.
"Oh! Hey there." Gail reached out her own hand and poked at the finger (claw?) that was examining her quirk. It was solid, unlike her own darkness. Maybe that had something to do with how well it stood up to the light. What she created blocked out the light as much as she wanted it too, but she needed to constantly make more to stand up to bright light. It liked to fizzle out at the edges if she wasn't careful.
"It's nice to know that I'm not the only one touched by darkness. Wanna find some shade? I'm getting tired." Taking a break with someone who might understand at least a little sounded so nice.

Besides, there was no one with better night vision than her. She would be able to see someone coming long before they noticed her.
Or she could turn a corner and walk into a robbery in progress. She should probably run so she wouldnât be mistaken for one of the thieves, but she couldnât. She hid in the shadows instead and gave them a little boost of extra darkness. The thought of stopping them on her own was too stupid to consider. But if she was lucky, she would be able to report their appearance to a hero or the cops.Â
Or maybe a hero could show up now. That was better. It wasnât anyone she recognized, but Gail didnât keep up with heros much.
âââ  Blanche lifts a hand to their brow, pressing their fingertips there as though the pressure would ward off the headache. It doesnât help, of course, but itâd been worth a shot.
Frost crackles up their boots in a decorative fashion; a subconscious expression of their quirk, although it didnât look like it at first glance. It was good, constant practice, and it allowed them to more quickly tap into Freezer when they needed it, such as⌠this particular event. Blanche halts before the sight of a robbery and narrows their eyes, scanning the surroundings.
No police, no heroes. Figures. Who knows if this small-time burglar was even worth considering to hold trigger⌠No, no.
Teal eyes flash an unnaturally bright blue, and ice surges like a wave, erupting from the ground to swallow up the sudden shouts from the culprits. Only after the roaring ice tinkles to a stop does Blanche notice a bystander; their eyes narrow. â You. Have you called for a hero? â
After the robbers were swept up in the sudden ice, Gail gathered up the extra darkness and willed it back into nothing. Now that they weren't a problem, she felt safe enough to show her face. Though she closed her eyes halfway and slumped to the ground in relief.Â
"Me?" Of course her, she was the only one left around to talk to. "No. I didn't want to-" deal with the light from her phone- "I didn't want them to notice me. You mean you're not a hero? Should I call one?" She could if she needed to, but she would rather not have to.
Besides, if the person in front of her wasn't a hero, there was a better chance that her parents wouldn't learn how close she had been to being hurt.

Gail shook her head in response to his question. âItâs light that hurts my eyes, not darkness.â She gestured and a darker patch appeared around her hand. âIâm not doing this for practice. Itâs like sunglasses for my body.â Or really good sunblock, but she left that implied.
âWhich way are the dressing rooms?â It was harder for her to see things the further away they were in well-lit areas. She supposed it might be similar to someone in a bright room looking into a dark one.
   â You have something like⌠night vision, then? â In addition to the obvious light sensitivity. That aside, Tamaki could already tell that the store was overreacting⌠he wasnât really needed here. They were probably just paranoid after the news blew up about some other villain attack elsewhere.
Still, this is â and would be â his job. â Itâs over this way. I could block out the light if youâd like⌠â
"I guess you could call it that." It was one of the terms she had been toying with since she was small. That part of her quirk could be called night vision if what everyone else had was day vision. But their eyes could adjust. Her pupils never really dilated, they always stayed in a slit like a cat. Like they didn't want any light to enter, no matter how dark it was. It wasn't something she liked to question.Â
"That'd be great, thanks." Gail followed the hero intern towards the dressing rooms, drawing her darkness closer to her so it would follow her instead of trailing behind.Â
