Gulmarg Sport Place In India
The decrease of militancy in Kashmir has opened up its natural wonders to a new type of tourist attraction Ski India. Skiing is now emerging as one of the most favored adventure activity in the valley.
The alpine slopes of Gulmarg compare to any beautiful vista found across the alpine mountains of Europe. The slopes have approximately 6 to 8 feet of snow and are considered to be some of the best ski slopes in the world. Hundreds of skiers ranging from professionals to amateurs and other visitors throng the resort in winter for the adventure thrill. Foreign tourists are thrilled with the skiing experience.
Skiers from Australia and England specifically thronged the ski resort in Baramula district of Jammu and Kashmir to experience the 12000 vertical meters of skiing provided by the slopes.
"We are happy to get two days snowfall and I think like for months we can enjoy the mountains and snowboarding. I am a beginner, so, for me it's really difficult to go to the top but it is a good thing here in Gulmarg, you have the layers for different kind of snow-boarders and skiers.
"Gulmarg is quite amazing for us because of its high altitude and such steep terrain. We generally do not get so much powder in Australia," said Shetter, another skier from England.
Mehmood Ahmad Shah, Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority, said that they were expecting a high-quality number of foreign skiers as they are going to start 3rd year of Heli-skiing soon. Apart from skiing Gulmarg offers other sporting activities like snowboarding, sledge ride and air balloon ride for a bird's eye view of the valley.
Kashmir tourism industry is booming and skiing is a great way to attract international tourist in the valley. The Gulmarg Heli Ski has turned Kashmir into preferred destination for the extreme skiers across the world in past as well. Around 1300 skiers, almost double than last year have registered with organisers of Heli-Skiing in Gulmarg this season and the number is growing, Organisers are offering special winter Gulmarg tour packages with comprehensive facilities.
