These large crowds consist of followers of the Shia school of thought, as well as Sunnis, Christians, and the followers of other creeds. Both the manner in which these mourning ceremonies are held as well as the quantity of those attending them manifest the truthfulness of the Ahl al-Bayt (ʿa) and the victory of the martyrs of Karbala.  In truth, Zaynab, the courageous daughter of Imam ʿAlī (ʿa) foretold of this issue many centuries ago. The Ahl-al-Bayt arrive in Kūfah 🥀 ❤ In his book regarding the history of Karbala, Sayyid ibn Ṭāwūss writes: “Umar ibn Saʿd charged Khūlī ibn Yazid al-Aṣbaḥī and Hamid ibn Muslem al-Azdī with taking Imam Husayn’s sacred head to Kūfah on the day of Ashura; he then gave the rest of the heads to Shimr ibn Dhiljawshan, Qays ibn Ashʿath, and ʿAmr ibn Hajjāj to take them to Kūfah.” Umar ibn Saʿd, however, remained in Karbala himself until the noon of the second day [i.e. Muharram 11th], then he left Karbala with the captives of the Ahl-al-Bayt for Kūfah. When the caravan of the captives arrived near the city of Kūfah, the people of the city gathered up to watch them; when the captives finally entered the city, a woman from a rooftop shouted: “who are you captives?” the captives replied: “we are the Prophet’s Ahl-al-Bayt, taken as captives!" When the woman heard that, she rushed downstairs and brought the women of the Ahl-al-Bayt some chadors and garments for them to cover themselves properly. The rest of the people who had come to watch also began lamenting when they saw that. However, when Imam al-Sajjad (ʿa) saw them lamenting, he said: “اتَنُوحُونَ وَ تَبْكُونَ مِنْ اجْلِنا، فَمَنِ الَّذي قَتَلَنا؟” “Are you now lamenting for us?! Who, then, was it that slaughtered us?!"     The martyrdom of Imam al-Sajjad (ʿa) on 12th, 94 Ah. Muharram 12th of the year 94 Ah. The trampling of the martyrs’ bodies 🥀🕊❤ On the orders of Ibn Ziad, Ibn Saʿd was to make his soldiers ride horses on the bodies of the martyrs, after their death, to trample their bodies in to shreds. So on Ashura evening, he called out to his men, hoping to endear himself by so doing to Ibn Ziad and persuade him to appoint him the ruler of Rey: “مَنْ يَنْتَدِبُ لِلْحُسَيْن عليه السلام فَيُوطِيَ الْخَيْلَ صَدْرَهُ وَ ظَهْرَهُ” “Who is ready to ride his horse on Husayn’s body to trample it and break his chest and back”? Shimr, who was a truly ruthless man, volunteered first and ten others followed him and rode horses on the martyr’s bodies, trampling their bodies completely. Sham-e-Ghareban (شام غریباں ) 🥀🕊❤ Shame Gariba(n) means the evening of strangers and homeless. This is the evening that occurred after the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.), his sons, and his companions. The only people left were the women of the Prophet and Imam Hussain's family and the last son of Imam Hussain (a.s.), Imam Zaynul Abid (a.s). The remaining male members were killed brutally by the army of Yazid Ibn Muaviya. The Women were all alone in the lonely desert with no food and water. There was darkness everywhere. Imagine the suffering of the women who lost their brothers, husband, and sons in that war. Their ‘Hijab' was forcefully taken off by the soldiers. They were hungry and thirsty including the 6 months old son and 4 year old daughter of Imam Hussain. For us, the Shia of Imam Ali this evening is a calamity. We gather and listen about the tragedy of Karbala. We sleep on the floor that night not on beds; remembering the situation of the women who were awake all night in the lonely desert filled with the fear of being robbed. We talk about the hardships faced by those women who lost their family in the tragedy of Karbala. The most horrific fact of the evening the tents were burnt, The females were witness to the trampling of the bodies of the Martyrs of the House of Hashimits (the Family) of Prophet. The Heads of the Martyrs were severed from the Bodies and were raised on lances. This was an Evening which saw extreme cruelty. The arrival of Shimr in Karbala 🥀🕊 On Muharram 9th, Shimr ibn Dhiljawshan arrived in Karbala with ʿUbaydullah ibn Ziad’s new directive to Umar ibn Saʿd. In the new directive, Ibn Ziad had ordered Umar ibn Saʿd to put more pressure on the Imam and his companions to force them to surrender. He had then added that, if they still refuse to surrender and swear allegiance to Yazid, Umar ibn Saʿd was to fight and kill them all! Besieging Imam Husayn (ʿa)’s camp in Karbala With regard to the events of Muharram 9th, 61 Ah., Shaykh Kuleinī has related the following tradition from Imam Sadiq (ʿa): “On the day of Tāsūʿā [i.e. Muharram 9th] the enemy besieged the area where Imam Husayn (ʿa) and his companions had set up their camp in Karbala. They began deploying their troops to that area to begin the war with the Imam. The son of Marjānah [i.e. Ibn Ziad] and Umar ibn Saʿd took pride in the abundance of their troops and they thought little of Imam Husayn (ʿa) and his companions. By that time, Ibn Ziad and Umar Saʿd were sure that no one would come to help Imam Husayn (ʿa) and that the people of Iraq would not come to his aid” Then Imam Sadiq (ʿa) continued: “May my father be sacrificed for he who was wronged and was left alone away from home!" Safe-conduct for Umm al-Banīn (ʿa)’s sons Muharram 9th is also the day that Shimr offered Abbas ibn ʿAli (ʿa) safe-conduct in return for leaving Imam Husayn (ʿa). His offer, however, was vehemently rejected by Abbas (ʿa). As Abbas was angrily rejecting the offer of safe-conduct, Zuhayr ibn Ghayn was looking at him affectionately and, when he turned to him, Zuhayr said: “Let me tell you a story; I remember when your father wanted to get married, he asked his brother Aqīl who knew the Arab tribes well to find him a wife from a clan who were known for their bravery and valiance.
