State your business. Mayhem.
It was a quiet night at camp. Little Jack was fast asleep on the bed and she didn't wanna let him outta her sight, not after the Braithwaites and Bronte. Watching as John stood by the window of their room in Shady Belle, there was a part of her that noticed jus' how committed to them he seemed lately. They were startin' to feel like a family. A real one. "John, y'think sometime ya could show me how to shoot a gun? Proper like?"
There was something awfully off recently. But yet John couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Didn’t feel right, though. Not that he would pay that much mind currently. What had happened in Rhodes, in Saint Denis, with Jack, it had rattled something in him. Arthur had been joking about it rattling some sense into him, John had just waved it off. But maybe it was true.
Looking up and turning, when Abigail spoke to him, John hesitated for a second there. Show her how to shoot a gun? She hadn’t ever mentioned such before. But now she was interested in such things? Well… couldn’t deny the past weeks hadn’t been kind to her at all.
And at least shooting was something John knew how to do proper.
“Uh… sure. Sure why not.”
Shaking his head just once, John kept a close look on her.
“… doesn’t sound a lot like you, tho, Abigail. Wantin’ to shoot proper. You’ve been the one to tell me to lay down the guns for a while now… now you wanna join?”

“Kind of early for drinking, isn’t it? Even for you.”
The kid was getting too good at picking out faulty behavior. That books were teaching him too much, definitely. Not that John would complain about that - he wouldn’t want his life for the boy. Jack could have a brighter future, ver much so.
That was if the kid managed to get that old by avoiding pissing off others. And John definitely wasn’t in the best mood. They were on the run, again. Abigail hated it. Jack wasn’t the little kid anymore that could just be hauled around, he was unhappy, too. John could tell. And it hurt. But the boy’s commentary just pointed out John’s shortcomings in being a father even more - and he definitely didn’t like that.
“Listen, Jack, at my age, you’ll understand that a glass of whiskey before noon somedays is the only thing that’ll keep you sane.”
“you’ve got a screw loose, surely!”
“Listen, Abigail – if I had any damn idea about what you actually want of me, I’d do it!”
This would never end, would it? Tensions had been high all around the camp ever since they had fled from Blackwater for sure. But it felt like Abigail was trying to pick out every small detail about his existence and make it a problem.
“Is it my work? Life? How else are we supposed to survive, huh? Gotta get the money in to feed you and that kid, too, somehow! Not my fault it’s bounty hunting and killin’ I’m good at! It’s filling the pockets and mouths, so quit the naggin’…”
