Guro is so frightening and violent can you explain the appeal to me? I just genuinely don't understand.
oh yea sure (also sorry to my followers, i need to keep this blog more active)
for me and i’m sure a lot of others too it’s mostly aesthetically fascinating stuff to look at. it’s very different from looking actual pictures of gore because it’s just art. i guess its making some kind of morbid beauty from something normally very disgusting. it’s definitely not for everyone though
for other people it can be a fetish and i can’t really speak for them, but human beings are weird and like weird things
Hey, I hope you don’t mind me piggy-backing off of this.
For me, it’s a bit different. I’m a person with quite a few mental disorders who struggles with invasive thoughts. I like guro art because it’s actually helped me vent a lot of these things. Gore, blood, pain, and violence are all very scary and bad things, but art is safe. So long as it’s being kept in safe places, and it’s being used as a tool to hurt others.
Before I got into liking guro art and letting myself think about it I would hate myself for things outside my control. I would just be sitting in the bus and suddenly just start thinking about blood and pain; hurting myself, people I cared about, and innocent people who didn’t deserve nothing. I was never in any danger of doing any of these things, but I had been taught that just thinking these things made me a disgusting and irredeemable person, and to many I wouldn’t be a person any more. The thoughts would ruin my day, and often ruin my week because it’d be put in a spiral of self-hate.
I can’t control my thoughts, but seeing gore art has helped me a lot. For one thing, it helped me learn that there are other people with messed up minds like myself. I’m not alone, and I’m not some failed person. Another thing is that it’s helped me see that my thoughts are inconsequential. Thinking about knives and eyes doesn’t make me a bad person, just different.
Much like guro-jam I can’t explain the people who are into it sexually, though, and personally I don’t approve of real life gore at all.

I get happy every time I see sluggrl's name because it calls to mind Junji Ito and the hideous deformed snail people. Since I like drawing oozy gooey people and I like snails and slugs, I decided to quickly draw something complimenting the username. This girl is sadly, not sluggy enough. But, I recently drew a slug girl you can view here! (I’ve been thinking of drawing more URL themed names because it’s fun, and some of you guys have rad names.)
