“The fucking is not the problem. The problem is earning the wrong reputation. Fuck whoever you please, and earn yourself a name as the best lay in the castle if it will make the Captain scowl in that way she does, where she thinks she looks intimidating but actually just looks sweet; but protect yourself, and for Lavinia’s peace of mind, keep up the illusion that we are reasonably respectable merchants. Duì?”
She pulls a book from the shelf, examines it, and then puts it back before turning to face Gussy; and smiles, before tucking a hank of the girl’s hair back behind her ear.
“I am sure, given time, you would all be great mothers, and Milo a wonderful father. A ship is no place for a newborn, however; and your belly would not stay small for long. Besides, the side effects? The vomiting, the changes in appetite, the swelling feet and stretch marks? Such things are bad enough on land. For your own comfort, and to save me the grey hairs, give it a couple more years before you start to brood.”
“To everyone else, I am the dumb whore on the ship. Shouldn’t I go around and gain the wrong reputation for myself?” She asked, amused. “To everyone else, you are all merchants who have kindly allowed a dumb whore to wander your decks. My bad reputation is good for you.” She leaned into Xin Er’s touch, finding comfort in the woman that she had never had before. Her own mother had never treated her to such touches before.
“Hei was born on a ship and she’s doing quite well for herself,” Gussy argued. She wasn’t planning on getting pregnant, but if it happened, she wouldn’t be overly upset by it. She liked the idea of having a baby; a little piece of herself to treat better than she had been. “I suppose, if I’m going to get pregnant Hogwarts is the perfect place for it. It’s on land and I’ve heard magic does wonders for those symptoms.”
