lan xichen is subaru from tokyo babylon
character who is known for being kind and empathetic and wanting the best for everyone around him but also thrust into a position of great responsibility at a very young age which he never wanted and struggles to deal with falls for someone who allows him to embrace a different side of himself. only to find out that said love interest has been evil all along and his killed someone deeply important to him. and the truth is that the evil has been fairly obvious for quite a while and he’s just been ignoring it because he doesn’t want to believe that about someone he loves. and maybe that willful ignorance means that the harm his love interest caused is in some way his fault. and he wants to hate this person but he can’t stop loving him. and then he accidentally stabs his love interest and regrets it and wishes that he had been the one to die and feels doomed to spend the rest of his life living in pain and guilt and regret as an empty shell of himself.
need someone to see this

they lost focus and got into a consensual workplace relationship
he’s a 10 but he keeps his ex’s head hidden in his secret treasure room
i know i don’t use this blog anymore. but. i really need to say. someone should make a xiyao amv set to go long by joanna newsom
it doesn’t matter how much one person loves another that will never cancel out the hatred and disrespect of society as a whole. no one has that power.
my personal xiyao opinion is that there is not any way jgy and lxc could have been happy together in the canon universe. people have written some great fix it possibilities yes. but i don’t believe any of them
Maybe if he was a little less fuckable we wouldn’t be in this mess
my favourite genre of fictional men are those ones who should be cool and badass because of their powers or character designs, but are pathetic instead. never had a good day in their life. an insult from a child could probably make them cry. wet paper bag men. you know the ones
all of my posts are about jiang cheng, unfortunately ❤️
i know they’re not birth siblings and that being sworn brothers is different (look at 3zun) but jc and wwx just feel like the most accurate portrayal of the complexity of siblings to me!!
the appeal of jiang cheng and wei wuxian’s relationship to me is the combination of love, admiration, jealousy, and resentment that comes from having grown up with a person for your whole life and having been constantly compared to them, forced to feel as if you are coming up short. but at the same time despite this competition truly believing they will always be on your side. which is just the most sibling thing ever, to me
fandom is always focusing all their energy on romantic pairings, and most popular fic involves shipping, which i think creates this sense that in order to find a relationship worth exploring extensively in fandom there has to be some kind of romantic angle. so then people will take sibling relationships and turn them into something romantic which in addition to feeling very gross is also a fundamental misinterpretation of what made those relationships interesting in the first place which is often tied to the shared history + familial obligation of having a sibling. in taking a relationship so clearly defined by older/younger sibling dynamics and trying to turn it into something else people are essentially changing the characters to fit this narrative and creating something entirely different than the one that actually exists
taking every deeply complex relationship in a story and trying to present it as something driven by romantic love does not always make it compelling. in fact sometimes it does the opposite.
*sees this on a dating app* hell yeah let’s talk about mdzs! *remembers i have very controversial opinions* well maybe not
i feel like it would be cheating to send jgy and lxc in any way, so instead uhhhh
sizhui, jingyi and jin ling!
ooh, thank you!
i really do love all the juniors, but i’m going to put jin ling first because i think his character arc is the most interesting to me. the combination of his grief for his parents, his complex relationships with jc and jgy, and the pressure put on him at a young age as the jin heir create a character who may seem annoying but is actually struggling to deal with a very difficult situation.
second is sizhui, i loved seeing his connection with wwx and the wen siblings as a child, how he’s been able to connect with the lan but still feels out of place, and his discovery of his identity/growing connection with wen ning are very emotionally powerful. his survival as the last living wen is represents both the tragedy of the world and the power of specific characters’ connections.
putting jingyi last even though i like him a lot, he’s such a fun character to watch and i love his simultaneous devotion to lwj while also being very “un-lan-like.” his story just doesn’t have the same emotional resonance as jin ling or sizhui to me
