Gundam Wing World Map: Episodes 1-17

The following map shows the travel routes and activity of the five Gundam pilots and the traveling circus group. This does not show activities of other characters, though.

THE PROJECT

First, I took this map:

and promptly took a look at all the Japanese and went “NOPE. IMMA DO IT LATER”. I instead color coded the pilots’ routes. I didn’t color the circus route, because I was dealing with a new and strange program (Microsoft Visio) and couldn’t be bothered to fumble my way through it again. So we have this:

01 (Heero) is red, 02 (Duo) is green, 03 (Trowa) is yellow, 04 (Quatre) is blue, and 05 (Wufei) is orange.

Now, what follows is the map completely translated. The routes for each pilot are separated and their activities are in numbered order. You can match the numbers on their lists below to the numbers on the map. Aso included in the following list are “other locations”, or places that are written on the map, but may not have been visited by our pilots.

Some locations weren’t given exact names, just names of regions. The “Yangtze River Estuary”, for example, so a rough estimation was made based on current world locations (assuming these named locations still exist in the AC timeline). Some locations were just a dot on the map with few identifying words and no identifying landmarks, so a guess was made. The Maganac base, for example, is just a dot in in the Middle East, so I had to guess, based on current 2015 maps, where the base may be located.

RESULTS!

Who was the busiest pilot during episodes 1-17? Drumroll please…Trowa Barton, with 14 locations! Who took his sweet time deciding his missions? Duo Maxwell with 8 locations. Who was the most erratic and all over the place? Mr Chang Wufei who circled the globe, jumping around in one continuous path and visited nearly every continent except South America, Australia, and Antarctica and was a pain to write out since he didn’t really meet up with the others much.

Earth vs Colonies Culture Shock - Part 3

It was one thing to swim in a sterile pool of water and another to wade out to sea, cold at first until you find the warm spot beneath the sun. One thing to feel the breeze from artificial wind-makers to feeling the nip of the winter chill brush at your cheeks. To breathe a carefully balanced mix of nitrogen, oxygen and carbon-dioxide and to feel your lungs expand with a freshness that was undefineable and smelled like cut grass and pollen.

Earth was beautiful. They’d seen it on screen, in books and on the hundreds of  billboards that lined the urban districts, always there to remind them that Earth was the superior place to be and that the people of it were the superior people to do so.

But nothing had prepared them for the actual thing. It was overwhelming to the senses at first. The sun was so much brighter and their eyes hurt for a few days while they adjusted. Sunglasses served a higher purpose than a vague disguise. The tingling of the sun directly on their skin was foreign. The colonies weren’t entirely devoid of UV exposure, with their artificial lighting cleverly crafted to replicate the golden sun. But it was still a shadow of the real thing. Quatre tanned well when he arrived, a consequence of his ancestry. Duo went a bit crispy for a while, quickly learned his lesson, and chose to cover up during the day.

The grass grown on the colonies was a specially bred hardy type that was quite thick. It required less water and less sunlight, and did its job in that it gave the otherwise grey interiors some colour and supplied 30% of the colony’s oxygen. It wasn’t meant to be enjoyed as such. Stepping barefooted onto soft, feathery grass in temperate climates was an experience Wufei would count among his favourites, cooling, refreshing and almost sensual. It felt like a long overdue embrace.

Quatre loved a great many things about Earth, but it wasn’t his first time visiting. Even so, every time he grew to love it more. He marvelled that very few from outer space would ever come to know how beautiful the Earth truly was. But his favourite aspect of Earth wasn’t its flora or fauna. It was the people who were so vastly different to how the colonies had been led to believe. They were greatly varied in culture, language, beliefs…but overall the thing that connected them was their kindness. He couldn’t shake the feeling that if the people of the colonies could only know such kindness, peace couldn’t be very far behind. He was pleased to find something of a like mind in Relena Peacecraft not too many months later.

Trowa enjoyed seeing the wide variety of wildlife just freely available wherever he went. Insects of all colours and shapes, big mammals, small ones, ones you can eat and ones that could eat you, water ones, land ones, air ones…the colonies had vermin as much as any place with a food and water supply but the animals of Earth were there because that was where they belonged. How odd it was that people share their space with so many other living things, simply because that was the way it was.

When Heero arrived on Earth he was convinced the very planet was out to get him. His first experience after landing was to immediately drown. Throughout his first week he’d been bitten by bloodsucking insects, gotten caught in torrential rain without a coat, discovered the weather man was a fucking liar, tripped more than a few times getting used to the very slight variation in gravity to his home colony and eaten food he had no true was of knowing was bad. He then took it out on the first person to show him kindness, having lost all patience, faith and tolerance for that planet and the people on it. That week was write-off as far as he was concerned.

A better, more positive Tumblr

To this end, we continuously invest in the enforcement of this policy, including industry-standard machine monitoring, a growing team of human moderators, and user tools that make it easy to report abuse. We also closely partner with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the Internet Watch Foundation, two invaluable organizations at the forefront of protecting our children from abuse, and through these partnerships we report violations of this policy to law enforcement authorities. We can never prevent all bad actors from attempting to abuse our platform, but we make it our highest priority to keep the community as safe as possible.

So what is changing?

Posts that contain adult content will no longer be allowed on Tumblr, and we’ve updated our Community Guidelines to reflect this policy change. We recognize Tumblr is also a place to speak freely about topics like art, sex positivity, your relationships, your sexuality, and your personal journey. We want to make sure that we continue to foster this type of diversity of expression in the community, so our new policy strives to strike a balance.

Why are we doing this?

It is our continued, humble aspiration that Tumblr be a safe place for creative expression, self-discovery, and a deep sense of community. As Tumblr continues to grow and evolve, and our understanding of our impact on our world becomes clearer, we have a responsibility to consider that impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets. We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content. So what’s next?

Starting December 17, 2018, we will begin enforcing this new policy. Community members with content that is no longer permitted on Tumblr will get a heads up from us in advance and steps they can take to appeal or preserve their content outside the community if they so choose. All changes won’t happen overnight as something of this complexity takes time.

Another thing, filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale. We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.

Most importantly, we’re going to be as transparent as possible with you about the decisions we’re making and resources available to you, including more detailed information, product enhancements, and more content moderators to interface directly with the community and content.

Like you, we love Tumblr and what it’s come to mean for millions of people around the world. Our actions are out of love and hope for our community. We won’t always get this right, especially in the beginning, but we are determined to make your experience a positive one.

Really excited to share some festive horror with you all this month!  Queue is locked and loaded.  Here’s the details and schedule:

Throughout the week I’ll be reblogging non-fandom spooky things - aesthetics, moodboards, GIF sets, etc. - and although I’ll try to keep it to a theme throughout, (e.g. Monster Mondays), there’s no guarantee since not all the themes are equally weighted as far as content is concerned.

I found something interesting today - Japanese subtitle files for all 49 episodes (not including EW). They’re in the srt format, which is very human readable and looks like this:

If they are accurate, this can be useful for doing your own translation, or as a learning tool. For me they’ll be both - I had been wanting to try my hand at translating a few scenes, but my listening comprehension is really poor so I got stuck. This will be a huge help.

Before you click the link, while the actual zip file I downloaded was just fine, I have no idea if there is any malware on the website itself - I use a browser locked down with scripting turned off by default.

Oh god, I’ve never seen this version with the clothes in the upper and lower corners. They took actual clothing and outfit recs and drew them on the characters like it was straight out of a fashion mag (this can’t be Newtype mag!). This image makes so much more sense now!

Also, that’s either really good drawing/coloring or they merged a pic of an actual skateboard with Heero’s hand.

Hello. Reading Frozen Teardrop, can you tell me what happened to Gundam Snow White and Gundam Epyon!

Hi! Unfortunately, I stopped reading Frozen Teardrop early on and I’ve never used it as any sort of reference material or put any stock in it. However, perhaps a follower or someone in the tags can answer this question???

For Epyon, I’m assuming it was destroyed when Libra went down, or Zechs took it somewhere and did something to it. My guess is that he scrapped it to make Tallgeese III it something like that.You could probs find more info on the Gundam Wing wikia site.

GW Very Short Fanfiction: Wufei + the vet

In about half a year, I’ve written about twenty words total. So I’m trying to rediscover the fun in writing. This fic isn’t what I’d call “quality”, but it’s a new start.

This was the first time since ever that he called in a personal day. Many of his colleagues were similar–they rarely called in sick or took personal days, as the nature of their work limited such things. But unlike his colleagues, Wufei didn’t accumulate his sick and personal days to use on an extended holiday. No, he just ignored them. He was aware that they didn’t roll over to the next year, but where was he going to go? And on his own? A spa holiday in Iceland? A party bender in Ibiza? No, this ‘personal day’ was for something he truly needed to take care of.

Milk was sick. Usually, she waited for him to open the door and be let out first thing in the morning and waited for him when he arrived at home in the evenings. But in recent days, she refused to go out and she even refused his food. Usually, he didn’t have to feed her other than water and some treats Sally made him buy. Milk was mostly able to find food on her days out, so much so that she was getting a little portly–probably overfeeding herself.

Thank you! I actually didn’t pay much attention to accuracy other than my experiences taking my cat to the vet, lol. (I’m always so grateful for the work you vets/vet techs do!) I only looked up kitten heartbeats and ultrasound machines. I’m so glad it’s at least a little bit accurate!

Wufei really should have known better. Did he really think that he could just send that baby out and she’d be okay?? At least he’ll take full responsibility for those kittens!
