“Why do you look so grumpy? Did someone steal your toy too?” The girl frowned blatantly, folding her arms across her chest. Her stepsister really had no right in snatching the stuffed bear away, it had been in the child’s possession from infancy - but her protesting had fallen on deaf ears.
The wolf cub stared quietly at the little girl, sitting back on his haunches and tilting his head to the side. He'd seen one of these things before, but it was much taller, and a lot furrier. He hadn't even noticed it until it started talking to him, and it'd nearly scared him to death in the process.
“No.”
He spoke quietly, watching the thing carefully, ready to run (or bite) if it tried to get him. It wouldn't be unusual for something so big to try to hurt him, and so he remained wary, happy to keep his distance.

Oliver just nodded at the half-growled words, blue eyes wide under the snow-laden fabric of his hood, which he finally pushed back a few moments later to reveal mussed, dark brown hair. He hadn’t intended to make him angry, or annoyed, or anything else, and really he wasn’t even sure if it was his fault, but he was going to tread carefully anyway.
Besides, he had more than enough work to deal with without injuring himself as well.
"There’s wintersharp," Oliver pointed out, only to mentally curse himself a split second later. Snark probably wasn’t the way to go, but the bloody plant had been running close to the top of his thoughts ever since he’d left the village that it was almost a relief so say its name. "And some others. But mostly wintersharp, really." He gave a small, slightly awkward shrug, before actually answering the question.
"Um. Not exactly…?" A sheepish grin lifted the corners of his mouth, his hands curling anxiously around the shoulder strap of his back. God, he really didn’t want to piss off the wolf. Not if the stories they’d all heard were anything to go by. "I didn’t intend to wander so far, but wintersharp is a pain to find, especially under heavy snowfall. If they’re private or anything I can leave, though." Yeah, that seemed a sensible thing to do – ask for forgiveness pretty much straight away. No point in angering him further, after all.
“On the contrary, I don't much care what you do here; as long as you don't hunt on these lands, I've no quarrel with visitors, trespassers or whichever. It's not my land, and it's not my problem.”
The wolf's anger was hardly well-hidden; thoughts of the man upstairs began to agitate him all over again, and the winds stirred gently, though his expression showed little change beyond the set of his jaw. No normal humans lived in this forest, and the area was naturally a sort of reserve for the rarer animals and herbs. They sure as hell weren't being used here--if it angered his father, so be it.
Bigby took on a quizzical expression, studying the boy practically drowning in wool before him. He wasn't very old, probably not even thirty years yet. The thought of such a young man blindly putting his life in danger for an herb amused him, and a ghost of a smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
“Come all this was for a measly plant? You must be so determined. These are the lands of the North Wind; most wouldn't test his hospitality even under the most dire of circumstances.”
