Yu-Gi-Oh! Shipping Names

Just a fan trying to figure out explanations for the many shipping names in the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX fandom. If you have an explanation for any of the names marked with 'shipping name reasons unknown', please tell me in the ask or IM me! I may accept suggestions for new shipping names (for both crossovers and regular gx) as long as there is definite proof that people ship them.

Ambershipping

Ambershipping = Johan Andersen x Tyranno Kenzan

Named as such because amber is fossilized tree resin that looks like a gem, and often holds the DNA of dinosaurs, fitting Johan’s gem theme and Kenzan’s dinosaur theme.

Aiboushipping

Aiboushipping = Hane Kuriboh x Judai Yuki

Named as such because Hane Kuriboh is Judai’s Spirit partner, and ‘aibou’ is a Japanese word for ‘partner’.

Primaryshipping

Primaryshipping = Daichi Misawa x Judai Yuki x Jun Manjoume

Named as such because at the beginning of the anime/throughout the entire manga, Judai is in Osiris Red, Misawa is in Ra Yellow, and Manjoume is in Obelisk Blue - representing the three primary colours.

Rivalshipping

Rivalshipping = Judai Yuki x Jun Manjoume

Named as such because Judai and Manjoume are the series’ main rivals, taking over the roles of Yugi and Kaiba from the previous series.

Orangeshipping (aka Tutorshipping)

Orangeshipping/Tutorshipping = Daichi Misawa x Judai Yuki

Named as such because Judai is in Osiris Red and Misawa is in Ra Yellow. When you mix red and yellow together, you get orange. (Orangeshipping)

Named as such because Judai slacks off in class while Misawa is an excellent student, meaning Misawa would be a suitable tutor for Judai. (Tutorshipping)

Mascarashipping = Hell Kaiser x Shouji Manjoume

Named so because both Hell Kaiser and Shouji have very noticeable eyelashes, almost as if they were wearing mascara.

Hasteshipping = Daichi Misawa x Fubuki Tenjoin x Jun Manjoume

Named so because of unknown reasons.

Named so because both Misawa and Ryo are considered to be geniuses at Duel Academia.

Named so because they all share the surname ‘Manjoume’.

Named so because Sho daydreamed about running through a meadow with Asuka.

Named so because both characters are often forgotten, both by the characters in-universe and by the fandom.
