one of the biggest parts of pony art that gets overlooked by people wanting to analyze pony art, or people who find it interesting or novel how popular mlp got is the fact that a lot of people like mlp because my little pony fucking sucks. and that's like, the point. a lot of people like or relate to pinkie pie not just because shes cute and random and breaks the forth wall, but because craig mccracken and lauren faust write actively outwardly ableist things happening to their autistic coded characters. think about Bunny from power puff girls, the "disabled" power puff girl who is seen as a burden until she ultimately sacrafices herself and kills herself to save the day, or the entire concept of Derpy Hooves, a mentally disabled character who is named after an ableist southpark joke because that's what 4channers named her. this show is often the first example of a neoliberal american attitude in a "realistic" way that disabled children saw, and that in my opinion caused a lot of children to latch onto those things as symbols of "how they are treated" in real life. young children with schizophrenia can see themselves in pinkie or young children with autism can see themselves in twilight or young children with military work families can see themselves in applejack or young physically disabled children can see themselves in derpy or scootaloo. not just because these ponies have these physical traits, but because the world of my little pony ALLOWS them to experience realistic and harmful ableism in a "cartoonish" way. derpy is not well liked, she IS disliked, there isn't a scene with her where people aren't rolling their eyes or tired and sick of interacting with her. no one ever understands pinkie pie, no one ever feels like they need to and the show reaffirms that. because the show is specifically written from a neoliberal capitalist perspective. when ponies think that pinkie pie is weird and hard to understand, you're meant to agree with them. when ponies think derpy is annoying and hard to deal with, you're meant to agree with them. and in that way a lot of these ponies came to represent not like, "pinkie pie the cute one" but like "pinkie pie the othered one" and i think people underestimate the staying almost meme-atic power of a character like that TO autistic kids (who are now, of course, autistic adults online.)

I want to write about the lore regarding the guy in the third panel:

You guys are right that the guy eating food IS the dad from Crayon Shin-Chan. There is an official spin-off that is a gourmet manga starring Shin-Chan’s dad.

The silent man in the third panel is a reference to a certain artist on Pixiv who became a meme because he kept posting gay fanart of himself together with Shin-Chan’s dad, titled “Hiroshi Nohara and me”. Sadly it seems like his account is deleted now.
