He was beginning to panic -- he could feel it bubbling up inside him as if someone left the oven burner on HIGH. Why was that a thing? Telling someone not to panic? That always made it worse!

But that doesn’t mean they weren’t making progress. they’re creating a new definition of baby steps with how skittish the dog had been.

Beverly can’t pin down what kind of breed the dog is ; nothing she can recognize easily. it doesn’t look like a pedigree type that could be found near Bill’s side of town. nor does it look like any of the dogs she’s seen in her neighborhood, either. regardless of where the dog had come from, it’s definitely not even a year old yet. it’s just a puppy !

Another piece of hot dog is flicked in the direction of the canine, the redhead squatting at the entry of the filthy alleyway. it hasn’t run away, which is a huge improvement from last week.

Alright, Bev had a point. If Eddie was in the dogs shoes -- er, paws? -- then he would definitely run away from creatures like him. But that didn’t disregard what Eddie said, either! This thing could be laden with diseases! & fleas!

Even still, he shut his mouth as she tossed another broken off piece of hot dog at the skittish puppy. & as the creature tentatively moved a little closer to eat that new piece, Eddie couldn’t help but feel a bit excited.

“ Okay, so the food trick seems to be working. But what exactly is our plan once it does trust us? We at least should give it a bath -- & give it some flea medicine, just in case. ”

Eddie could get a bucket & soap to clean the dog up, & of course some elbow high gloves so he wouldn’t have to touch the filthy thing. The general store most likely sold some pet flea medication, so if he just told his mom he needed money for ‘medicine’ she probably wouldn’t question what kind.
