It's customary, in the first 30 days when my mom passed away, my family, friends and I divided up saying the full Mishnayiot (the oral Torah) for my mom’s aliyat neshama (soul elevation). When I read mine, I noticed right there, my moms name in Hebrew first name right on top of her last name (פרידה צפור) was right there in the Mishnah. It was a moment where I felt she was winking at me and Hashem (God) was letting me know, it’s ok, your Ema is with you for the rest of your life, as light in infinite recursions. I was reminded of this as I sat down to dive into this week’s Torah portion, Metzora and as I finish writing my five book series, @thelightofinfinite... Just then, again, in the first few verses, I see not only my mom’s name (צפור), but my Hebrew name, (ארז). Random ramblings pt.1: I always love hearing Justin sing the pre-chorus on @BonIver’s Holocene, “And at once, I knew I was not magnificent.” As Simcha Bunim, Polish Chassidic master said, Everyone must have two pockets, with a note in each pocket, so that he or she can reach into one or the other, depending on the need. When feeling lowly and depressed, discouraged or disconsolate, one should reach into the right pocket, and, there, find the words: Bishvili nivra ha-olam-- "The world was created for me.” But when feeling high and mighty, one should reach into the left pocket, and find the words: V’anochi afar v’efer "I am but dust and ashes. I came to Miami without any plans at all, not one meeting, not one commitment, I came as dust. Divine Providence led the entire trip, new business partnerships, playing music on the water-reconnecting with people I haven’t seen for a decade plus. I think it’s moments like this when we can let go of planning and expectations that we open ourselves to where we are meant to be instead of always fighting fate and happenstance and trying to control every moment. The pairing of faith and humility is a potent elixir.
