Kalafina 10th Anniversary Film Report!
Hello Kalafans! I know I know I took so look I'm very sorry >.< got super busy with work, plus I was preparing a karaoke cover of the 10th Anniversary Live version of ARIA! (Please check it out and let me know what you think https://hadi-sama.tumblr.com/post/173450279880/kalafina-aria-10th-anniversary-version-karaoke )
This report is full of spoilers, if you care, stop reading now xD
On the actual day of the movie, I went to the collab cafe (Osaka branch)! Only to find out that THEY WERE OUT OF EVERYTHING!!! I basically ordered food and got nothing >.> Felt super frustrated and scammed.. Still pissed about it dammit I was so looking forward to the postcards :( Anyway.. I arrived to the cinema hall and it was half full. Without further due, let's get started with the actual report!
The movie started with footage of the few minutes before they come up on stage for their 10th anni live.
Keiko: was already there going over some of her lines, waiting for the other two.
Wakana: came running in a hurry.
Hikaru: came third looking super cold and had a scarf over her.. poor Hikaru..
So they did their usual speech (Ma Ya Ya) xD before they go in, and there we got the "leg" shot xD and they walked up on stage and you can hear the crowd going crazy (so proud of us, great job guys xD).
Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru were sitting on a table discussing the setlist, they had the vote results with them and trying to arrange the order. As usual, Keiko was doing the talking and suggestions, Wakana looked a little confused and Hikaru was just silent.
Wakana, Keiko and Hikaru were in the shrine praying with a priest.
feeding deers, was super cute and funny <3
I'm sorry I can't remember what Keiko was doing xD
Was looking at a shrine silently and emotionally
They showed some footage of the Nara performance!
Sandpiper (Acoustic): sounded super creepy and dark. Hikaru sounded good! Wakana and Keiko were fine.
Yasashii Uta: They all sounded pretty much like the studio version. Wakana's "Kimi ni todokeeeeeeeee" was super gooooooood.
They got off the stage and poor Keiko was feeling suuuuper cold trying to warm herself up xD
Wakana was talking about her hometown and how it never changed and how nostalgic she feels. She went to a local sweets shop and bought some, and they walked around the neighbourhood.
Then they showed 3 old pics of Wakana! She looked super cute!!
Toyama: Hikaru was pretty much saying the same things that Wakana said, never changed nostalgic etc. Also went to a sweets shop and bought some. Then they headed to Yamaha music center where she used to take lessons! She was saying it never changed. She went to her training room and sang something in English and she sounded SO GOOD! Then they showed 2 pics of young Hikaru!! SO CUTE!! She looked EXACTLY the same but younger xD her face didn't change <3
Tokyo: Keiko was walking around in Shibuya looking kinda confused and lost xD She said that Shibuya is rapidly changing. Nothing much or special really. Then for a very awkward shot.. where they showed Keiko drinking coffee from Starbucks from a window with the Shibuya crossing view. 1 old pic of Keiko.. the pic that's floating around the internet that we all have seen xD.
Was so goooooooooooooooood dammit a few seconds were not enough! Hikaru and Keiko were SO into it! Then we have Hikaru SOBBING after the performance, my Japanese is very weak so I couldn't really understand everything she said :( Keiko turned her face away and was also crying, Wakana was comforting Hikaru. I could hear some crying in the cinema hall too.
Dress selection session, pics scattered everywhere around the table etc.. They showed some training footage for a Christmas song that I didn't recognize xD Also showed some of the actual performance "We Wish You A Merry Christmas", was a beautiful performance and they all sounded great!
To me, this was the best part of the movie, felt very special cuz I attended that event. Here's what was shown:
- Dress selection session.
Mostly Keiko was in charge walking through the seats and sitting/checking the views etc.
They showed A LOT of the preparations for the song, I felt like they worked so hard on this song. Seperate footage of each vocalist was shown, practicing the kajiurago intro. Started with Keiko, trying different things of ways of singing. She was singing in a more folky way, and she sounded great ugh >.> Then we have Wakana, practicing her part. She sounded different from what we're used to hear from Serenato, but she was good, although there was a high note that was super pitchy in the cinema hall :S Moving to Hikaru on a keyboard, she was mixing between her normal voice and falsetto (her recent Oblivious voice). Then we have all 3 practicing what they came up with together, it was so cool and fun to watch how hard they worked on this song, and it was SO worth it.
They were practicing with the band and trying different things, as usual Keiko was in charge and giving suggestions to do this and that. The drum intro originally was planned in the middle of Wakana's "Karaaaa", so they kept delaying it until they came up with what we've seen in the Live, major goosebumps alert.
So the dresses were ready, and they tried them. Wakana's and Keiko's were kinda different. Wakana's dress was longer and she was concerned whether she'd be able to move freely. Keiko's dress had a lot of lace up to her neck, it looked super chocking and uncomfortable, so she wanted them removed. Hikaru's dress looked the same to me, I don't think she made any major changes.
So they wore their dresses and rehearsed their songs, they showed some of
(There were more songs but I can't remember sorry).
So they showed again the first scene, right before they come up on stage, then they showed some of THE ACTUAL LIVE, in high quality edited shots. At this moment I was 1000% sure the Live is getting a release. The "much anticipated" songs were not shown, here's the songs that got snippets (take them with a grain of salt, my memory is kinda hazy):
1. Ring Your Bell: It was obviously edited xD cuz they made Wakana on key lol, it sounded good.
2. Mirai: The usual Mirai.
3. Hikari no Senritsu: You should look forward to Akagi Rie's flute ^.^
5. Sprinter: Also the usual.
6. Oblivious: Great great performance by all 3.
7. Symphonia: Amazing harmonies.
8. Red Moon: Nice performance but like I said in my live report, lacking in energy.
9. To the Beginning: The usual.
10. Ongaku: I really like this performance, Wakana on fire in every single way.
11. Heavenly Blue: The usual.
12. Into The World: I think this is the best Into The World performance.
13. Hikari Furu: Major goosebumps. Nuff said.
14. Hyakka Ryouran: The second chorus was shown, SO GOOD and powerful.
15. Alleluia: They showed the full song, but it was interrupted by interviews etc. I think this is my favorite Alleluia performance ever.
- Wakana's touching interview part, where she says that the 3 of them meeting and singing together was destiny..
It feels super bittersweet in this current situation.. I really wanted to cry when I saw that part.
Surprisingly, Yuki Kajiura was not mentioned at all in the actual film.
All in all, it was a nice film, pretty much like all their other short documentaries but longer with some interviews.
An advice I'd like to give to those willing to get both the film and live:
Watch the film first up to the 10th anni right before they show snippets of the songs, stop here and switch to the actual Live BD/DVD. It will add up to the whole experience and will make you appreciate their effort more!
I hope you enjoyed my thorough report, I tried to write everything I remembered. Once again I apologize for the delay.
