For the longest time, I was having a really hard time writing anything except angsty scenes. I didn’t understand why, but I had 8k words of pure angst for my WIP and almost no other scenes were coming to mind, despite a pretty detailed plot outline.

Then I ran out of angsty fanfics to read and started reading different kinds of works.

Suddenly I can write better! I have ideas! I feel like I’m actually going to post this fanfic one day soon!

Variety is super important if you want to be a writer. I’ve read and written so much in the past, but over-saturating my mind with whump these last few years really caused my writing skills to atrophy.
