An indie Pokémon roleplay blog for an original character working under the Rocket Gang as possibly the lowest of the low. Known as Kane, it's often easy for him to shove those negative emotions deep down inside himself, but the future looks utterly bleak as he works off an immense life debt to the gang with no escape in sight. So what more can he do other than keep his deluded and overactive imagination running at all times? There's no rest for those who have made grave mistakes.

He... He's starting to hate the party. The vibe. The fun. The people (Everybody). The outcome. The hangovers and regret. He's starting to hate it all. As he lies in his bed in a mass of soft and itchy blankets alike, mattress against the door as a way of keeping people from breaking in (as usual), all he can do is curl into a tight ball of pain and mental anguish (and cry).

Perhaps he's partied for too long. Perhaps he's getting too old at the ripe old age of thirty (Why would anybody like him at such an age anyway, ew). Either way he's exhausted, his body aching, mind in a chaotic downward spiral (Down, down). The abyss greets him and smiles back as hard as he does in his manic state (Just laugh and it will all be fine? Maybe...).

Ah. Perhaps if he parties forever then he could simply perish on his feet while having a good time as opposed to what Rocket wants where he would die working hard and at an old age or in the lair of an enemy (another?).

Maybe if he works himself too hard then he will fall asleep for a while (Just for now...).

... He's never had that response before. It's enough for Spinel to take a careful step back. Just who had he ran into to meet that kind of reply? Oh well, he thinks, he's already here. Every conversation could hold valuable information.

"Pleased to meet you, Kane."

A bold statement to make in front of a stranger, but at least he knows where he stands, and he appreciates the honesty.

"We're a company. We have a proud reputation which I am always keen to uphold... So, your words wound me. I try my best to sound as I should... As The Director of Exceed I do not wish to come across as concerning."

"Though, it's also important to me that a Pokemon's true value is known, so a balance must be struck. I am not trying to lure you into anything."

Still, he's heard worse, and he isn't offended. It's not as if this stranger is incorrect; he can not be trusted. Though normally he is able to sway others to a degree despite his demeanour. But he wasn't interested in being compared to another this person knew, and just as he turned around to leave, an apology was instead given.

"..."

"... You're forgiven. I assume your little outburst has some reasoning behind it. They often do not show themselves from nothing."

Letting out a pleased chuckle, Spinel returns to facing Kane.

"Very well. As I said, we are a company. We pride ourselves on helping others. Does that take your interest? It sounds as if... you've had some unfortunate experiences. If you wish to share, I will listen."

Unfortunate wasn't a strong enough word, to say the least.

"Mm..." Biting his lower lip almost hurts as he stands idle and considers where to take the conversation next, pondering if to simply ask about this Exceed business or to blurt out all his pitiful woes and unleash a wave of sorrow onto the poor and unsuspecting guy. But, knowing that telling his story could be dangerous (and dumb), he does actually know what he's going to say and, with a quick breath in, he rolls a shoulder to appear more relaxed, stance turning to reflect that façade.

He's actually nervous and can't pinpoint why just yet.

"Helping others in like... How, exactly? I mean s'kinda a broad thing, y'know?" Come careful words as his hands slide into the baggy pockets of his pants. Anxiety spikes through him like a bad memory being replayed and he can feel his heartbeat quicken, breath stifling after speaking. It's so stupid and he's just realized why. He's only fearing for himself for dumb reasonings now. Nearly every time somebody claims to want to help others, including him, it's always some sickening ploy to get closer to his heart and rip it out after however long. Or it's simply to use him for whatever means. It's usually the case, anyway, very few times being pleasant.

His mind goes a hundred miles per hour as he awaits a reply that no doubt comes seconds later, though to him it feels like forever.

"People think I'M a weird one. Then fuckin' Cyrus comes along an' makes me seem so damn normal."

Unfortunately for those who have to listen, Spinel often liked to ramble. He probably enjoyed the sound of his own voice... And he also takes pleasure in sharing his knowledge where he is able. A dangerous combination. Some would want to avoid him after what he claimed, but not here... What a pleasant change.

"That's... one way to put it. We, at Exceed have to be prepared to deal with any danger to ourselves. It's a simple but effective method in doing so."

"But I can't help but notice you don't seem too concerned with it."

The glance to him is not missed, only shrugged off. He's more than willing to keep sharing information with someone who is blessing him with their curiosity. Spinel could only hope he would return the favour.

"Indeed. Often a Pokemon's skills are overlooked. It's not always their use in combat which makes them dangerous."

Letting out a hum, he nodded.

"Your friend has good taste. I would consider it powerful. I have it trained quite well, on the chance we do need to fight. It never hurts to be prepared. Tell me, what type of Pokemon do you use?"

He should remember his manners, however.

"Ah... My name is Spinel. To who do I owe this pleasure?"

Blowing a quick raspberry that sounds something akin to being told too much, Kane can only stand there for a few long seconds as he decides which question to answer first, if any. But this person seems interesting enough, so much so that he ends up deciding to respond.

"I'm... Kane." Damn, he had planned to give a fake name but failed to think of one in time. So while he is drawn in by this person's sheer aura, he knows there's going to be something up, and giving his name was no doubt a terribly dangerous idea. "Mm... What's Exceed, huh? Some sorta like company? Gang? Group of..." A momentary pause. "...people... Y'know what I mean. I'm curious now y'mentioned it. But don' try t'lure me into any shit, 'kay? I already got enough goin' on an' y'sound like a uh... Fanatic. No offense. Y'words remind me of my insane friend." Too formal. Too kind. Too alluring. Too much like him. Any other day and he might not have linked the pair, but after seeing said insane friend being malicious as ever to a mutual ally in the previous night, he's all too paranoid, mind consumed by worry and horror.

Perhaps he should just cut the conversation here and walk away. Perhaps he should turn and flee. Then again, he's never really been one to run from possible danger lest it be actually dangerous or even life threatening. He just loves the aspect of something being up and escaping at the last moment before it gets too bad. Oh the thrill of an adrenaline junky...

"Again, no offense." He isn't going to mention his Pokémon, just in case this guy is aligned with a group like Rocket and wants to take them off of him. Or maybe that paranoia he has is just stupidly bad right now and this guy is actually the CEO of the friendliest company to ever exist. He does look nice... He also sounds intelligent enough... Ugh. He feels bad now. He should learn to think before speaking. "Sorry. Ma bad." He ends up shrugging and smiling in the most sheepish of manners. "I shouldn' judge. S'wrong. Let's start again, yea? Hey, I'm Kane. What's 'Exceed'?"

Maybe you are. You're certainly giving me ideas.

[ He chuckles, shaking his head. ]

I don't believe many others will see eye to eye with such an outlook.

"I'm awesome enough that people listen t'me and nod and give me what I want. Of course they'd see eye t'eye with me outlook!!"

Not always a "bad thing"?

The sentiment centers around the idea of a predator infiltrating prey's space through deception. I can't imagine associating such a thing with something positive.

"Not always bad 'cuz it can save ya skin in a twisted way, ya know? Or... Get ya what y'want. Maybe I'm the bad one here... Haha...!"
