             it's   a   bad   habit  ,          her   brother   used   to   be   the   one   to   get   onto   her   about   it.   whenever   she   got   stressed   out   in   the   slightest  ,   haze's   fingers   would   pull   at   her   hair.   they'd   start   at   her   ends   before   moving   up   to   her   scalp.   movements   began   light   then   switch   to   jerky   movements    ---    almost   yanking.                ❝        i  ,   uh  ,   i'm   stressing.       sorry  ,   it's   a   bad   habit.   i   know   it   looks   weird.    ❞

he  wasn’t  expecting  company , nobody  had  informed  him  so  the  man  appeared  alarmed . Bruce  sat  on  the  stool  with  his  hands  tightly  clutching  at  his  tablet .  he  set  it  down  on  his  lap , eyes  trained  firmly  at  the  woman  who  had  something  for  him .     “ i .. uh.. really  depends  on  the  work . and  if  it  pays  well … i’m  joking . i’m  kidding  – i  don’t .. ” he  cleared  his  throat , awkwardly  tapping  at  the  screen  on  the  sides  of   the  tablet  to  a  mismatch  tune .    

         “ were  you  sent  by  someone ? ” he  asked .  

             confusion   lines   her   features  ,          &   it's   etched   into   the   lines   of   her   face  ,   buried   in   her   eyebrow.   she   shakes   her   head  ,   trying   to   think   how   she's   supposed   to   phrase   all   of   this.   she   had   found   his   joke   funny  ,   but   at   his   last   question  ,   the   smile   was   fading   slightly.               ❝        uh  ,   no   one   sent   me     ---    but  ,   i   will   pay   you  ,   if    you   need   me   too.   i   just  ...   i   heard   you're   really   smart  ,   &   i   was   wondering   if   you   could   help   me.   see  ,   i   don't   really   know   what   i   am   ...    &   not   in   like   the   mid - life   crisis   kind   of   way.    ❞

#i've probably packed about 50% of my room.#once i get today / tomorrow's packing done.#i should be able to sit down n finally finish these drafts#so you guys can have things that first week or so of june#where i'm getting used to things etc.#especially bc we're not exactly sure if the house we're staying at in june has wifi ...#if not then i WILL set my queue to post all of june.

             finally   a   laugh   comes   out  ,          she   might   not   have   gone   that   far  ,   but   she   can't   help   but   see   his   point.   everyone   hear   seemed   so   comfortable   about   what   they   do.   but   to   haze  ,   the   saving   people   thing   was   new.   after   all  ,   she   could   barely   save   herself   half   the   time.   but  ,   people   seemed   to   think   that   she   was   good   at   it.                ❝        well  ,   thank   you.     ---     i   appreciate   you    keeping   it   not   sunshine   &   roses.   i'm   hazel   by   the   way.   i   don't   really   have   one   of   those   cool   names   yet.    ❞

                             yes , death seemed to cling to him like a shadow ; did it see him as old friend , or was it simply waiting for its time to take him ?  the boy didn’t particularly care either way , ready to go at any time . some might call it morbid , but he preferred deeming it realistic . he didn’t typically draw any attention however , so surprise rose within him when he felt someone’s gaze locked on him . hazel gaze met azure , curls brushing his forehead as his head tilted with inquisitiveness .  ‘ no problem , you didn’t offend me . but is there something on my face or what ?  ’  the timbre of his voice held a teasing edge to it , making it clear he was the opposite of bothered .

             his   words   are   comforting  ,          even   if   the   amount   death   surrounding   them   was   making   everything   fuzzy.   normally  ,   it   was   second   nature   to   haze   to   know   if   someone   was   worth   trusting   or   not  ,   or   even   if   they   were   a   good   person.   so   she   decides   to   take   everything   at   face   value   at   the   moment.   she   blinks   &   a   smile   creeps   on   her   face.   it   was   genuine.                ❝        nope  ,   nothing   that   i   can   see.     ---      like   i   said  ,   i'm   just   really   bad   about   staring   at   people.   it's   like   my   brain   clicks   off  ,   you   know  ?   ...    i'm   haze  ,   by   the   way.   in   case   you   go   tell   this   story   to   all   your   friends  ,   you   have   a   name   to   go   with   it   now.   the   weird   girl   can   have   a   name.    ❞
