Rays Memory

"Connecticut is a very difficult place to be a Rays fan. It's common territory for both Yankees and Red Sox fans alike. Since I was born in Tampa, I sided with the Rays instead of the local favorites--and I was tired of hearing about 27 rings and Fenway Park anyways.

For my 16th birthday, I wanted nothing more than to see a Rays game in person. My dad and I had tickets for September 28, 2011, game 162. It was a key game to win, but it didn't look like the Rays were in it. The Yankees were winning by a preposterous 7 runs. Then, in the bottom of the eighth, the Rays started to come alive, managing to get within one run of the lead. But that productive inning wasn't enough, as the Rays were one out away from losing in the 9th. Dan Johnson was up with two outs. I wasn't feeling too optimistic. With two strikes on him, he took the next pitch deep into right! Energy and excitement coursed through the stadium. When Evan Longoria hit the walk-off later in extras, the Trop was on fire. I left the stadium and I couldn't stop smiling...I knew I'd never see a better game than this.

I love following the Rays...they're underdogs who never fail to prove themselves to big-name teams. Definitely a fan for life!"
