“You don’t need “Deck The Halls” or “Jingle Bell Rock” ‘Cause you can spin a dreidel with Captain Kirk and Mr.Spock- both Jewish” “Chanukah Song” Adam Sandler – Children play with dreidels during the celebration of Hanukkah. The game originates from a time when it was illegal to study the Torah under the rule of Antiochus IV, around 175 to 164 BC. Scholars would hide their study materials and pretend to gamble with these square tops whenever soldiers or police would pass by. Depending on which letter the top lands on the spinner receives a certain amount of tokens, such as chocolate coins, from a pile.
If you really, really wannakah, Have a happy, happy, happy, Happy Chanukah!
Hugo wishes you a Happy Holiday. No matter what you celebrate. (2015)
Wendell wishing you joy and all the magic of the season! (2015)
If you really, really wannakah, Have a happy, happy, happy, Happy Chanukah” - Adam Sandler– There are 16 different ways to spell Hanukkah, or “dedication” in Hebrew. Two of the most popular spellings are Hanukkah and Chanukah. The holiday commemorates events surrounding the Maccabees rededicating their temple after driving Antiochus IV’s forces out. The story says they only had enough ritual oil for one night and it burned for eight nights, long enough to prepare more oil.
I think Wendell may be the dreidel champion this year because he has secretly been practicing all year.
Hugo takes down the Krampus, freeing the naughty children from his bag. “No one gets to haul my little brother away to hell! Especially not some hairy half goat half demon Krampus! One of the reasons Wendell is so special to us is because he is always so hashtag thatssowendell all the time!” Hugo fumes. Historically Krampus visits children on St Nicholas day in early December, our Krampus is a little late. In contemporary culture there has been a Krampus revival due in part to people looking for new ways to celebrate the holidays. Countries such as Austria hold special Krampus parades in various locations where men dress up in incredible elaborate costumes.
“Oh no! The dreaded Krampus is here to take me away to hell in his backpack with the naughty children for being hashtag thatssowendell too many times!” The Krampus is a horned figure in German/Alpine folklore who punishes bad children during the Christmas season. He beats them with his switch and carries them to hell in a basket on his back. Some believe his origins are based in German Paganism that predates Christ.
On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to meeeeeeeee seven swans a……uh guys, what happened to the rest of the swans???
Sometimes people are surprised that Hugo will sit still for photos so I wanted to share this to show off his modeling skills. Not only does the little guy sit still, he also gives subtle variations of poses! Working his angles.
“A Festivus for the rest of us!” The Holiday of Festivus is celebrated December 23. This holiday gained notice when it was featured on the television show Seinfeld in 1997. The holiday is billed as an alternative to the commercialism and pressures of Christmas. Notable traditions include The Festivus Pole (unadorned and preferably aluminum) in place of a Christmas tree, The Airing of Grievances where you let your fellow participants and the world know how they have disappointed you over the past year, and (the boys favorite) The Feats of Strength, in which the head of the household challenges one person to a wrestling match. Festivus continues until an opponent properly pins the head of household and wins The Feats of Strength. Stay tuned to learn about the origins of the holiday and let us know if you experience any Festivus Miracles today!
For Winter Solstice I present you with Hugo as Lucy van Pelt, the ultimate tree worshiper. (Hugo’s second Christmas, 2013)
“My first Christmas! 2014! For a good time with your grandma watch my favorite holiday movie on YouTube ”Pickle Surprise“ by Tom Rubnitz. This has been a Wendell take over sponsored by #teamthatssowendell!!!”
Someone is definitely planning an ambush.
Wendell would like to wish all of our Jewish friends a chag Chanukah sameach! That means happy Hanukka holiday in Hebrew! Did you know there are 16 different ways to spell Hanukah? Oy vey!
