Kuroko no Basuke - Replace 4 - 1/6 no Kiseki SPOILERS
Chapter 1: Summer Break With Generation of Miracle members
Momoi was chatting with the other managers (sort of spazzing about G.O.M members and Momoi ended up ”fangirling” so much about kuroko that they thought she has weird taste). Other girls mentioned about Aomine being cool, but Momoi said that Aomine is just a basketball idiot and really an idiot ,when he was a kid he caught little lobsters ,declaring that he is going to raise them into BIG SHRIMPS
Chapter 2: Riko and her dad, Kagetora
Kagetora holding a gun to Kuroko’s back and threatening to shoot him when he thinks Riko met Kuroko for a date
Kagetora trapping Izuki, Mitobe, and Koganei with a net when he sees the three of them meet with Riko
Kagetora spotting Kiyoshi, Hyuuga, and Riko at Maji Burger and trying to figure out which one Riko is dating so he can beat that person to a pulp
GENGEN (Kaijou’s coach) absolutely hating Kagetora’s nickname sense (incidentally he refers to all the Seirin boys with weird nicknames too)
GENGEN being Kagetora’s rival for Riko!Mama’s affections
Riko inheriting her terrible cooking skills from her mother
GENGEN ACTUALLY USED TO BE IN LOVE WITH MASA (Araki-sensei, Yosen’s coach) and had asked her to go out with him several times with the intention of marriage BUT all her former underlings/admirers from her former biker-gang days kept trying to ambush him and eventually Masa cut him down with one stroke (literally).
The reason Riko was out and about was because she was looking for a belated Father’s Day present for Kagetora: because she was so busy with Interhigh she couldn’t get one in time, and now with winter cup around the corner she decided to take advantage of Christmas sales. She met with Kiyoshi and Hyuuga to help pick out a present - Izuki, Mitobe, and Koganei ran into her while she was waiting for Kiyoshi and Hyuuga, and she’d agreed to check up on Kuroko (ie make sure he wasn’t overexerting himself with extra practice during break) while she was out.
HYUUGA WAS THE ONE WHO PICKED OUT THE SUNGLASSES FOR KAGETORA BECAUSE (according to Riko) PEOPLE WEARING GLASSES ARE BEST AT PICKING OUT GLASSES
Chapter 3: Taiga and Tasuya growing up in US - Part 2
Apparently when one of his classmates said being taught basketball by a girl was lame, Taiga’s first reaction was “waitaminute, now that you mention it Alex IS a girl!”
Taiga not understanding the big words Tatsuya uses so Tatsuya takes the time to explain them to him
Alex “asking” Taiga to make her a bento and suggesting he make basketball onigiri like in an anime she saw and Taiga getting so excited about the basketball onigiri that he makes an entire chara bento with Taiga/Tatsuya lookalike onigiri and basketball hoops out of hotdogs
Alex being a total anime otaku and watching her favorite ones enough times to be able to recite her favorite quotes by heart and just generally increasing her Japanese vocab through indiscriminate viewings
Taiga asking Tatsuya to ask Alex if she’s getting married because he’s too embarrassed to do it himself but he believes Tatsuya can do it because “Tatsuya can do ANYTHING” but Tatsuya is embarrassed to ask too so he comes up with an excuse not to
Tatsuya getting furious at the two men’s conversation when he thinks they’re talking smack about Alex (Kagami your older brother is totally a feminist!!!) and running to kick the wedding planner in the shins when he hears that he plans to bring “Alex” to New York, and Taiga beating up the cameraman when he tries to hold Tatsuya back
Taiga going from sulking to YAY PICTURE WITH ALEX AND TATSUYA and Tatsuya whispering in Alex’s ear that he thought Alex looks pretty in a wedding dress (too embarrassed to say it out loud but wanted to tell her himself and not have other people say things on his behalf)
But please do note that Alex didn’t get married. The reasons why Taiga and Tatsuya thought she was getting married were:
Tatsuya smelled perfume on her (it was sunscreen that smelled funny)
Tatsuya noticed she was suddenly more concerned about getting tanned (because she didn’t want her complexion to change during the photo-shoot)
Tatsuya and Taiga see her with a nice polite man in a suit enter a jewelry shop next to a church (the man is a wedding planner who works for the jewelery shop/bridal store)
Alex sees a 3-tier wedding cake in a shop window while walking with Taiga and Tatsuya and stares at it longingly (she thought it looked delicious and pointed out even Taiga was staring at it for a long time)
Alex cuts practice short and when Tatsuya and Taiga and her run into a priest; the priest asks her to stay behind to discuss something (the priest is her neighbor and he wanted to talk about an upcoming charity bazaar)
When Taiga and Tatsuya sneak into the church the next day, they see the man in the suit and a man in an aloha shirt talking. The aloha shirt dude says “I can see why you worked hard to solicit/persuade her, if you didn’t then I would have totally persuaded her” and the suit dude responds with “yeah she was my last chance so I did my best” which obviously makes Tatsuya furious (The wedding planner asked Alex to be a model for their new bridal line because she fit the image perfectly; the aloha shirt dude is the photographer.)
The aloha shirt dude asks if the suit dude is going to bring “his new family” to New York and the suit dude says yes he’s bringing “Alex”, so Tatsuya and Taiga finally snap (The “Alex” that the wedding planner refers to is the dog that appeared in the third novel. Alex Garcia couldn’t find the owner so she brought Alex the dog to an animal center. The wedding planner went there the same day to adopt a dog - he ended up adopting dog!Alex and asking Alex Garcia to be the model for the new bridal line).”
Chapter 4: A Librarian, Furihata
Izuki/Kiyoshi/Hyuuga’s visit to the library. Izuki asks if they have “Salaryman Senryuu” which was recommended to him for pun reference material by Kiyoshi. The library doesn’t have it (obviously) so Kuroko “helps” him fill out a request form. Kiyoshi comes in to return a set of rakugo cassette tapes - Riko and Hyuuga borrowed them on his behalf while he was hospitalized because they thought he’d like rakugo, except he didn’t have a cassette player. Kuroko suggests that Izuki borrow the rakugo tapes to use as reference for puns instead; Furihata notes that Kiyoshi also returned an Ozamu Dazai novel so that was probably more aligned to his tastes than rakugo. Hyuuga comes to check if the library received any new sengoku books (they didn’t) - apparently Hyuuga has a reputation amongst the Seirin basketball second years as going to the library the most and he proudly shows off that he’s on his third library card (although when Kiyoshi praises him Hyuuga goes all tsun and says “I don’t like it when you praise me because it feels like there’s another meaning to the things you say”). Kuroko in return shows off his own library card - he’s already on his tenth card and Hyuuga starts sulking because he’s obviously lost LOL.
Furihata mentions that Kuroko is “unusually talkative” when it comes to books, and even comments that he’s glad Kuroko and Kagami made up after their “fight” (the story takes place after the Interhigh and before the Shuutoku training camp). In return, Kuroko opens up to him a little bit about his feelings/insecurities when he played alongside the MiraGen, which in turn leads Furihata to admit his own doubt about being able to play with Seirin. Kuroko suggests Furihata to practice with him over the summer, and when Furihata says Kuroko should practice with Izuki instead, Kuroko responds that he wants to stand on the court once more because playing basketball with Furihata is fun.
There’s one line that Kuroko says when Furihata asks why Kuroko continues practicing when being part of Teikou left him with bitter memories and even now when Seirin’s training regime is hard, that really stood out to me especially after the latest manga chapter: “I don’t know if it’s much of an answer, but the reason why I continue no matter how difficult it is, is because I want to play basketball here, with Seirin.”
