In the Graveyard
TITLE: In the Graveyard RATING: T SUMMARY: A witch goes to a graveyard.
[A/N - Written for @writer-wednesday. I’m back-filling some prompts. This is my first original work I've posted here on Tumblr!]
She entered the graveyard.
It was nearly Halloween and the veil was getting thinner.
She could feel it.
Most of the trees had dropped their leaves already, littering the ground with oranges, browns, and yellows.
She could feel the spirits lingering around their own graves, watching her as she walked to the oldest grave.
The leaves crunched underneath her black boots, bring back memories of childhood. Playing in leave piles. Going out her way to step on leaves just to hear that satisfying crunch.
The oldest grave sat at the edge of the property. Time had eroded the name and dates away, but she felt drawn to the gravestone. Like something or someone was guiding her to it.
She sat down and draped her black skirt around her. She pulled out a couple of tea light candles and lit them. There was no wind today, so she wouldn’t have to worry about relighting her candles. She lit incense sticks and stuck them into the ground. Next, she pulled out a bowl and small handmade cake. She filled the small bowl with water from her water bottle.
“I honor the ancestors who have come before me and those who will come after I’m gone. Please take this water and cake as an offering for protection.”
She closed her eyes and allowed the energy from the grave to flow up into her body.
Sometimes she would get flashes. Like memories. She allowed herself to receive these messages.
The sun slowly dipped below the horizon.
She needed to go before the grave diggers came. She blew out the candles and poured the water out onto the grave. The only thing she left was the cake.
As she walked back to her car, she felt a presence. She turned back and saw a shadowy figure standing next the grave.
It raised it’s arm and waved.
She waved back.
