I never got super into making Sonic OC's, which is a shame, because it's really fun! so I tried to make my own bad guy in the style of the Sonic IDW villains. I love how many of them are these dingy, conniving slimeballs, it's such a fun vibe ...

also I'm siccing her on Lanolin, because Lano could use an arch-enemy to obsess over. she has like the exact right combination of character traits to develop a guilt complex over someone else's bad life choices and make it her mission to stop them in order to atone. it has to get at least a little gay too, I think

the backstory I'm imagining is that Lapel briefly worked together with the Restoration at one point to take down her crime boss mother, who considered her a failure and an unworthy successor. some time ago, her mom had annexed a casino from Eggman, and Lapel wanted to help the Restoration dismantle the place, both as revenge and to prove herself. during this mission, Lapel worked closely together with Lanolin, and she thought she was so cool and really wanted to impress her, but Lanolin understandably thought Lapel was kind of a loser trust fund baby and didn't take her seriously ... she accidentally bruised Lapel's ego, and Lapel became so angry she double-crossed Lanolin and sold out both her own mother and the Restoration to Eggman. Eggman hired her, and she's been using her newfound power and influence to harass the Restoration ever since.

because she's a newbie villain with access to a lot of funds and useful tech, more experienced villains have come flocking to work with her. she tries to play it off as her having a lot of supporters, but she sleeps with a gun under her pillow because she knows deep down they're all just lining up to stab her in the back and take over the moment she slips up ...

fulfilling my lifelong dream of making a really nice-looking Sonic OC based on meeee 💞

I remember being like 12 and trying so so hard to pin down a good design, I went through everything from a badger to a hyena to a tasmanian devil, but it just never really clicked ... also did a jellyfish one when I was a little older, but that one was really difficult to make work with the design style.

now that I'm older and I know what kinds of things I like in a design, it was a fun challenge to come back to :)

trying out making some more Sonic OC's! sometimes I think about what the characters' parents might be like (the ones that have parents, anyway). Rouge and Vector have mentioned having moms, and Cream probably had a second parent of some kind at some point ... and I also made some up for Tails purely because I thought if he had magic spirit fox moms who were a little bit spooky that would be extremely cool x)

some behind-the-scenes on all of them:

- Nails: Rouge makes a couple jokes throughout the series where she mentions her "mama." with her independent tough girl personality, I thought it would be sweet if she had a soft spot for her mom. I imagine her mom was her only real friend before she met the rest of the canon cast. Nails' name is of course a reference to the fact that Rouge herself was named "Nails" at one point in development before her final name was chosen.

- Scalar: Vector has a line that goes something like "look at me, ma!" in ... I believe one of the racing games? I remember hearing it and thinking if I were his mom, I'd worry for that boy. and the idea of an exhausted little older lady crocodile trying really hard to be chill while her son chases down armed gangsters for minimum wage at best just really charmed me. her name is a math joke and also sounds like "scale"

- Ice: I just really, really wanted to make that theme naming joke and his character developed from there ✌️ I made him a kingfisher because 1. orange markings, which is the only design element Cream doesn't have in common with her mom, and 2. I think it would be cute if there was some kind of cartoon logic where the reason Cream can fly is because her dad is a bird

- Torrent and Cherry: these two were mainly designed around being a cool dual boss encounter! I have this little story in my mind where Tails' moms appear as antagonists with some kind of sinister agenda, and he's forced to choose between doing what's right or returning "home" to a place where his quirks are nothing unusual. of course he doesn't hesitate to stand up to them, even if it means staying in this world where he'll always be the odd one out. but also I like to imagine they'll all be able to bury the hatchet in the end. I think Torrent would eventually decide enough was enough and talk Cherry out of whatever evil masterplan she had cooked up, and they'd return to their own world peacefully :) Torrent is inspired by onna-musha and her four tails are supposed to call to mind bad luck and death. Cherry's name and her seven tails are supposed to hint at the fact that even though she looks less intimidating at a glance, her magic abilities are stronger and she's arguably more dangerous 🔪

happy spooky season to those who observe 🎃🦇 been looking for an excuse to draw all the littlest Sonic kids hanging out, and I love Halloween, so everybody going trick or treating together seemed like a fun idea ... idk how they got those three little delinquents in the back to come with, but I wanted them to have fun too :]

costumes, from left to right:

- Marine: pirate. probably stole at least some of it off a real pirate.

- Charmy: buzz bomber badnik. Vector and Espio helped him dye himself blue. the Team Chaotix HQ bathroom now looks like the aftermath of a smurf slasher movie

- Tails: Frankenstein's monster. only begrudgingly added the bolts because people kept thinking he was a scarecrow (they are not book accurate!!)

- Cream and Cheese: each other! not pictured: Vanilla and Chocola at home also dressed up as each other.

- Sage: an attack type boo. she lowered the opacity of her hologram for the occasion.

- Kit: ghost ..? Surge threw a blanket over him and told him to go fetch the free snacks and he didn't ask questions

- Nine: a sinister killer !!!! please be scared of him, the knife is REAL !

When I need to remind myself to put something on the grocery list and I don't have my phone on me, I use the Scrabble tile magnets on the fridge. But sometimes I don't have enough of the right letters and have to get creative.
