Happy 24th anniversary, kingdom hearts! (old work from 2022)

Roxas as a relatable character - A retrospective.

I really do just love Roxas as a character, he is such a relatable person in so many ways. I feel like square really hit the nail on the coffin with their writing in terms of Roxas acting so human.

And I really do see myself in him, perhaps that’s part of the reason I like him so much. He isn’t my favourite character, that award goes to Sora easily. However, I love his relatability. The feeling like an outsider in your own skin and around your own friends. The never really truely knowing what’s going on, or only hearing fragments of a story.

He really does incapsulate perfectly, the struggle of finding your own identity and that sense of trying to make out a sense of self in a way.

He is portrayed as neither hero nor villain, just someone who had the goal of being there for his friends, even when they made him frustrated or hurt him. He isn’t afraid to show anger or negative emotions and I admire that.

I think in that way, everyone can find a little of themselves reflected in Roxas.

Guys okay okay head canon.

Sora and Riku have locations shared on their gummi phones, even though Sora doesn’t know how to use his. Like “mhm yes, riku is this little glowing dot on my screen?!? Did the heartless get him? How do I get him out?!?”

Sora would just internally panic because that means being separated from Riku again. But then, chip and dale tell him to follow the green dot and it leads him to Riku so he is just so relieved.

I feel like Riku would want Sora’s location just in case things do go wrong again, like he would probably check it at least once a day while Sora is on adventures helping the different worlds and sealing their keyholes.

I might make this a comic.
