Tales of Character Ages
((Whilst I work on some of those changes, let me extend a welcome to all new followers! Please bare with me as I fix up a few things, and attempt to find other blogs to follow))
Changes
The small boy laid on the bed of his dorm room, staring holes into his ceiling. The golden rays of the sun peered in through the open window, the peaceful sounds of the port city of Palmacosta accompanied them. Nobody could dispute the fact that it was yet another beautiful day in the city. Ordinarily, Genis would have jumped at the chance to be outside on his day off, be among his fellow classmates, and among his fellow townspeople, but something about today felt... off.
The day hadn't started any different than any other day. All of the other students were buzzing about the rapidly approaching summer break. Had you asked Genis at the start of the day, he was among them. It wasn't until after their class that day that had put the half elf in his current state of being.
Mighty, his rival-turned-friendly-rival, asked him a simple question. The same question he had asked him the previous year. A question that many students ask their peers as their temporary relief from study is just around the corner.
"What are you going to do this summer?"
Genis hesitated, almost flinched when Mighty asked this of him.
"Well, study for next year, I suppose" Genis replied sheepishly. Despite being excited himself for the extended break, he hadn't really given it much thought "Probably take some time to go visit Raine, too"
"Huh" Mighty responded, genuinely surprised by the short response "Last year you had so many stories to tell us when you came back, I guess I just kind of assumed you had bigger plans. But that sounds neat too"
A bit more small talk continued before Mighty decided to press onward with his day. Genis however, still feeling off following their discussion. He retreated to his dorm room, where he remained until now.
What had he done since the previous break? Nothing in comparison do what he had done during and before it. The previous year, almost every time he had a break, a moment to be away from school, he was out on some new adventure, revisiting old towns, old friends, and even exploring new worlds and making new friends. But this year his plan was too... study.
He rolled over on his side. While he was pretty sure Raine would be proud of an increased focus on his studies, Genis wasn't certain he would be. Even Mighty, probably the ultimate egghead behind himself, was seemingly disappointed in the answer Genis had given him.
He picked himself up from the bed, and walked his way over to the window of the room. Staring out of it, the white haired child felt an overwhelming sensation that he hadn't felt in a long time. The want and desire of... adventure.
Alright, now for the ooc stuff.
Man it's been a really long time. Honestly, just writing for this character in character again feels a little odd. Not so much in a bad way though. Kind of like visiting an old friend. But anyway, first things first, to anyone who may not have followed this blog previously, this is very much *not* a new blog. I have had this one for a while now, and this would be my 3rd time coming back around to it. Now I understand that that's kind of unorthodox, but I can't really change that. I thought about trying my hand at a different character, but this is the character I started with, this is probably the character I've enjoyed the most, so I wanted to come back and do something with this blog. I'd very much be lying if I said this was the first time I've logged in since I left. I've always thought about potentially coming back here, but I just never really had the heart for it, I suppose.
And to those that are/were around when I left, of course I have to extend my sincerest apologies. I didnt really want to do a "Hey, I'm leaving" post, because well number one, at the time I didnt really know it was going to be the end. All I remember was suffering from an incredible case of burnout. And eventually, my short break turned into a long term departure. But also because I don't like really making a big deal about it.
But I am retaking control of this blog. Of course a lot of familiar faces are no longer around and I understand that, as people do move on and do different things. (hopefully there's still a community to, you know, return to) With the retake there are a few things that I would like to do differently:
Personal changes:
- First and foremost, one of the things I did *way* wrong back in the day was putting this blog first. I know that may sound weird given the circumstances but its true. I had fallen into a cycle of: work, eat, reply, bed, repeat. It had gotten to a point where I was neglecting friends, family, just to kick out replies, and I think that is by and large what kicked up that case of burnout. What that means is, there may be days where I'm here, but not really doing much, or days that Im not even online. And so in advanced I would like to immediately apologize for that, and if that perhaps deters you from interacting with me, than I fully understand. I do understand that that has to be within reason of course. Im not expecting you to wait a month or anything like that. Hopefully at *worst* a week.
Content changes:
- Immediately I want to do some sprucing up to the main page of this blog. Im going to start working on this in replacement to the current bio. Not sure how long that will take but hey.
- I did say before that I wanted this to be a more casual return. That does not mean I'm against doing longer rps like some of my more common ones, all I ask though is please understand if it takes a minute for me to get back to you on those.
- You *might* start seeing standalone text posts like that one up there. I will always make them similar to the way I started this (title plus read more) and tag them so that they're not super intrusive. While these won't be starter posts per se, if you feel like you have something to add to it or some way of starting a roleplay off of it, by all means go for it, or at least ask me about it. I promise to do my best to roll with it.
- Lastly, I want to try to cut down on strictly ooc posts. Will they happen? Sure. But I noticed I tended to do so a *lot* back in the day.
Character changes: - Mostly none. I am going to change his age to reflect the story up there, but that is for the most part it. I may wipe the relationship page clean, but probably not.
Other notes/final thoughts:
-I want people to believe that I am approachable. I have an inbox and literally anyone and everyone is not only allowed but encouraged to use it, be it silly stuff, roleplay requests, drabble prompts, m!a's, whatever, please do not be afraid to talk to me and interact with me. Honestly a lot of that stuff were my favorite things to do. That also includes bugging me about a reply I owe you. Because honestly if you've used this site for long enough you know that Tumblr is not a perfect website, and its not impossible for posts to get missed entirely.
Overall I think I can honestly say Im excited to see where this blog goes from here.

Loc had been tired, and his body was giving in to the exhaustion of the endless circling through the forest that he was trapped in. He heard of this forest before from the group of people he used to work with when he was training in the way of sword play, but he never thought he would ever end up lost in it. The sweat trickled down his face, and he was panting from the long travelling. He then sat down and looked up at the tall trees just so he could take a short break.
So this is gaoracchia forest…. He soon sat up again and continued to walk through the woods, knowing there had to be an exit somewhere, whether he had to climb the trees, spend days finding it, or even using his forbidden abilities to get out. Maybe he’s at the end… maybe I can find him…. He turned around the corner of the dark woods to see a bit of light and found himself in a more rocky terrain, and not far from that a building built into a mountain.
Genis however was faring considerably better in his trek through the supposedly haunted forest. In spite of its reputation, the half-elf managed to keep his calm as he traversed the network of plants. Yet, even he was only passing through. Perhaps there was knowledge he could gain from studying the plant-life here. Yet, despite not believing the forest was haunted, the general atmosphere was still unsettling, and he didn't care to stick around longer than need be.
He continued through the forest, remaining hunched over in an attempt to remain hidden from anything that may be out lurking. Before long, the boy spotted another individual... Another person? In Gaoracchia forest? Why? Either way, he decided to follow the person in the hope that he knew where the exit might be. Shortly after making this decision, he was led out of the forest into a completely new area. Relieved to be free of the forest, he figured now as good a time as any to speak with him. He picked up his pace, and caught up with the figure.
"H-Hey" he said, breathing heavily as he tried to catch his breath "Where are you headed?" he said, attempting a smile in between his gasps for air.
“I-I’m not a kid!” he shouted at the redhead, turning his head away from him to hide his equally red face. Such topics made the boy a bit uncomfortable, to say the least. Of course Zelos was right, Genis didn’t fully grasp the concept, but the last thing he’d ever do was give Zelos the satisfaction of acknowledging that.
He too pulled himself off the ground, and dusted himself off. When he was certain that his face had returned to a normal color, he faced the former chosen once more.
“Stop calling me brat, you jerk” he glared at his former companion. “Just because I’m not a pervert like you doesn’t mean I lack any ‘basic knowledge’”
“Oh yeah? You’re not a kid, huh?”
Crossing his arms and shrugging his shoulders, Zelos turned away from the boy, everything about his stance in that of mock understanding.
“Alright, alright. But until you prove it to me, I’ll keep callin’ you kid. Buuut, if it really bugs you that much I’ll stop calling you brat.”
The Wilder turned halfway around, to give Genis a mocking smile and returning glare. He figured he might as well give the younger male some leeway; after all, he supposed that they were friends somewhere deep down, somehow.
"Thanks, I guess..." Genis let out an annoyed sigh. He supposed getting Zelos to stop referring to him as 'brat' was a step in the right direction at least.
"Prove it to you huh? How do you expect me to do that?" The half elf simply rolled his eyes at the redhead. While they were traveling together, Genis had gotten used to Zelos's antics. The time apart had briefly made him less tolerant, however he could slowly feel himself finding the patience to deal with him once more.
But, even he had to admit he was right. Even in his wealth of knowledge, he was still a child by just about every standard. Not that he would ever admit that out loud, of course. So, instead, he continued to argue traits that were, to him, qualities of an adult
"I'm a student at a university now. How much more adult do you want?"

“I see…” Her explination of Leymons only served to dampen his spirits even further. Obviously the story was not going to be a pleasant one, given the subject matter, but he expected Leymons to be some sort of monster, or something similar to the threats they faced while on their journey, but not another race entirely.
“Honestly I can sympathize with them… at least a little bit” he began to explain, staring forlornly at the ground. Instantly upon hearing her explanation, he couldn’t help but liken the plight of the Leymons to that of his own kind. “People persecute half-elves here in Aselia all the time. Simply because one group known as the Desians ruined it for the rest of us”. He clenched his fist in frustration. Why did people have to be so… ignorant.
But then it hit him. He was suddenly reminded once more of his current mission, and in an instant his attention was brought back to Rubia.
“I-I’m sorry…” he placed one hand on his head sheepishly, accompanied by an equally sheepish smile “I’m supposed to be getting you back home, not dumping my life story on you…”
Good job, Genis. He mentally reprimanded himself. While he wasn’t exactly ashamed of his half-elf heritage, he still usually made in a point not to casually mention it to other people. So even if the issues of these Leymons and half-elves were similar… that didn’t excuse his outburst.
“But they can transform into beasts huh? That’s sounds neat!” a pretty obvious attempt to change the subject. Although, to a small extent, his interest in their ability was genuine. That was one thing he, nor anyone or anything else he knew of was capable of accomplishing.
He shook his head in an attempt to refocus himself on the task at hand. As it stood, he felt he had collected a fair chunk of information, but it still wasn’t enough to go about getting her home. He figured a trip to the school library might be in order. The odds of there being anything on the world Rubia came from were slim, but considering the amount of visitors they had received as of late, the possibility was still there. He glanced out the inn room window. The sun was beginning to set, casting a firey orange blaze across the sky, yet it still wasn’t too late for them to pay a visit. He jumped from the bed he had been sitting on.
“Let’s see what we can do about getting you home, okay? Follow me!”
“‘Half-elves’…?” Rubia blinked, letting the unfamiliar word roll off her tongue. Listening carefully to Genis’ explanation, Rubia couldn’t help the feeling of familiarity. It was the same. Half-elves and Leymons; two different races that suffered in such similar ways. Honestly, it was really quite sad… To think, that even in an entirely different world, there was discrimination and corruption among people, all aimed at one particular group.
Blinking at the boy seem to be on the brink of an emotional breakdown, it hit her. Was he one of these ‘half-elves’? Most likely, judging from the viewpoint that he explained the situation from. Rubia couldn’t quite feel the same, not being the race that was on the receiving end of discrimination, but she could still sympathize.
But, what was so terrifying about a ‘half-elf’? It looked to her as though they were just normal people… But who knew? Perhaps they had some special quirk about them that separated them from others, too…
She paused, jolted out of her thoughts at his apology.
“I’m supposed to be getting you back home, not dumping my life story on you…”
She gave him a smile; at least, the best that she could manage at the time, after such a depressing topic. ”Ah, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”
Hearing Genis’ next statement on a Leymon’s abilities, she frowned slightly. ”Well, I guess… But they can loose control, and it can be a bit…scary…” She sighed, remembering Caius’ transformation.
At the change of topic to getting her back to her own world, Rubia blinked, bright green eyes glancing up the the glare of the sky. Wasn’t it a bit late? Ah, well, they could still make time, couldn’t they? Looking back in Genis’ direction, cutting her gaze off from the brilliant colors that streaked the sky above her, Rubia nodded in confirmation and followed after Genis.
He returned her smile with a yet apologetic one of his own. Regardless of his personal feelings on the subject, he decided it was best to keep his opinion on both the fates of half-elves and Leymons to himself for the time being.
"Lose control? What do you mean?" he asked in genuine curiosity as they exited the hotel room. Despite her fear regarding the subject, Genis was still intrigued. He had briefly read of humanoid creatures that could transform in different beats, but had never encountered such a thing in real life. Admittedly, the more he thought about it, he could understand why some might find them frightening, yet he still found the idea fascinating.
Genis spent the greater portion of the walk between the hotel and the shcool silently taking in all of the information just recently given to him. The conversation had, needless to say, taken a vastly different turn than he had expected, and had given him much to consider. Naturally, he was still perturbed by the plight of the Leymons, and the similarities between his own race. But his mind also skimmed over the other information he had gained on her homeland. Fern Village sounded like Iselia, or any other rural town, if one excluded the incidents with the Leymons and this Rommy person. He hated to admit it, mostly because he didn't want to address either subject, but these were probably the best two leads he was given.
"Say Rubia..." he started cautiously "Why... why were your parents killed? If you don't want to talk about it, that's okay, but..." the boy asked this not in the hope of bringing up any painful memories, but if they were killed for political reasons, that might give him something more to go off of.
Once they had made it to they made it to the school, Genis took one last look into the sky before going inside. The sky had grown even darker... way later than students were usually allowed to be in the library.
Once he had led her to the library, he took a brief peek in. After determining that there was nobody around, he motion to Rubia for her to follow him. Immediately, he began skimming through rows of bookshelves for any books of interest.
"See if you can find any books on other worlds, mythical creatures, or anything you might find helpful. Oh, and make sure to try and be quiet..."

He watched her begin casting her spell, mostly unimpressed until she had finished her incantation. Meteor Storm…
Appropriately enough, the moment she was finished, the land around them was bombarded by massive rocks falling from the sky above. He crouched a bit, slightly concerned with being hit. When the meteors stopped, Genis stared at Rita, stunned.
“How did you…” Genis was only aware of a small handful of people who knew how to perform the spell, and even he had to learn the spell from Crowley, who didn’t teach it to just anyone. How did she learn it?
He shook his head. Now wasn’t the time to focus on that. At the risk of causing further damage to the ground, he took to his usual spellcasting stance, and began chanting again.
“Infinite power, grant me thy strength. Meteor Storm!”
Much like last time, the half-elf’s spell achieved a similar effect to his rival’s. The ground was battered once more with spacial debris, only serving to enlarge the craters already created.
“How’s… that?” he said with his usual grin, yet accompanied by obvious signs of fatigue.
Breathing heavily, she had started to feel tired after her last spell. She watched mouth agape as another set of rocks pelted the land in front of the two of them, he had managed to pull off another one, Rita wasn’t sure whether or not she should be impressed and just concede to him, mostly because her, now bruised, ego wouldn’t allow it.
“You…know that one too…” She takes a few steps forward, taking the book from her back, flipping through it. “No…That’s not good enough either…Hmm.”
She stops flipping through, a grin crawling across her face. “That’s almost too much that it’s mean.” She puts the book back, positioning herself differently this time and as she is about to begin….She slips, falling forward, and she luckily gets her hands forward so she manages to prop herself up.
“Give me a minute…Got dizzy there. Not used to that happening.”
"Ha, you can't handle it..." he said with a dry chuckle. "Now let me show you something..."
He lifted his kendama once more, yet something immediately felt off. Breathing heavily, it was clear his constant spellcasting had caught up to him. Before he could even decide on another spell to cast, his legs gave out, and he found himself in a seated position on the ground. A disappointed expression glued itself to his face. He hated to admit it, but there was no way he had the energy left to cast another spell.
"I guess... I guess we'll call it a draw, for now" there were still short gasps for air as he spoke. It was pretty apparent that he was frustrated that he couldn't continue. He had to admit, however, that Rita was a pretty good spellcaster, even though he would never admit that to her face.
After a moment had passed, and he had caught his breath once more, all of the questions that he had held off on asking came rushing back to his head. So he figured now was as good a time as any to ask them.
"By the way... who taught you Meteor Storm?" That was the question that he was most curious about. "And what's up with your... weird spellcasting style?"

There was a great difficulty in telling one of how he felt, especially after all of the years he had been stabbed in the back by humans, elves, dwarves — most everyone but the half-elves — but Mithos forced himself to speak up, because though he hated to admit it, in trying to fool Lloyd’s group, he had become good friends with Genis; they had both connected in ways he had not ever connected with anyone else. Genis had to know why he had made the choices he did, even if he couldn’t explain it perfectly. An attempt was all he needed. So he told the younger boy of the suffering he had been through over the years, the trust that had been broken, and the death of his dear sister, and then he seemed to suddenly drift into thought. It was concerning, but he allowed it, because it meant that Genis was finally understanding him. His ideals had become twisted due to everything he had been through, his hate for humans had built up until he couldn’t take it anymore — he had to act — and he had indeed made a mistake. But it did not seem that horrible, since it was for Martel. That was why he would do it again if he could.
Seeing Genis smile brought a brighter one to his own face, and he simply blinked back the tears in his eyes. It was comforting to have a friend like this when he was so helpless, even if their bond was weaker than it usually was. It could be patched up like a wound, right?
“Yes, I agree. We’ve been through similar pain.. though, I honestly hope you won’t have to go through what I did. Not with Lloyd or anyone… Raine is an intelligent woman, and a good sister to you … I wouldn’t want anything to happen to her either. ”
They were all half-elves after all, and in some ways she reminded him of Martel. It was distant, because most of her traits showed in the Chosen of Sylvarant, but it was something about how much Raine cared for her little brother that reminded him of his own sister.
He shivered at the thought of Martel, his smile weakening a slight. What if she wasn’t out there? What if she had been lost in the rebirth of the Great Kharlan Tree?
“Are you sure, Genis? Tabatha may not want to see me…”
And Martel … she might be ashamed of me, too.
Mithos had not forgotten her rejection before. It was hard to take at first, because of all he had went through, but now it only hurt.
Something about hearing Mithos say such positive things about his sister put Genis's mind at ease. More importantly, however, he was happy to have his friend back. An idea that, before now, he might have considered impossible. Seeing him smile made the entire ordeal of shouting and yelling worth it in the end. Nobody could deny the fact that Mithos had been through a lot. Arguably more than any individual should have to go through.Even if Genis couldn't agree with the path that he chose, seeing a genuine expression of happiness on Mithos's face brought an indescribable joy to the half-elf.
His smile faded however when he spoke of his objections to meeting Tabatha. In all of the commotion, he hadn't exactly taken into account the potential ramifications of what he was suggesting. What if he was wrong about Tabatha, and she and Martel weren't actually the same being? He already felt overwhelming guilt at the prospect. The boy placed a hand on his chin.
"I think..." he started, taking a pause to fully flesh out his statement "I think you should go. Even if I'm wrong about Martel... you owe it to Tabatha to go see her, don't you think?"
Needless to say, Genis was aware that Mithos had made several enemies throughout the course of time. He couldn't deny that Tabatha definitely had reasons not to want to see Mithos. But he still felt that Mithos should go and speak with her, if for no other reason than to apologize to the android.
"I'll even go with you... I-If you want", Genis exclaimed, with his friendly smile once more returning to his face. Potentially reunited with ones sister was a very personal experience, especially in Mithos's case, however he would be there to support his friend, if need be.
((so I appear to have hit 142 followers, which is a far cry from the 130 I was just at a while back. My apologies for not greeting everyone, its been very crazy here, but thank you for following none the less >.<))
Seven people have entered Welgaia
His face had immediately crossed from angry to unamused in a blink of an eye. He wasn’t accustomed to having emotions like before. They were more of a nuisance, blocking logic and common sense and judgement of a person.
Genis’ insistence wasn’t fooling him. Although the emotion and something akin to pity was found in both eyes and voice, the seraph couldn’t simply believe a word the half-elf was saying.
“Recently.” the brunette replied, his arms crossed, giving off an image of Kratos, although unintentionally. “I do not recall the date, seeing as time is rather irrelevant to lifeless beings, but I remember that it was of only a recent time.” he then pointed to the side, where one can have a view of the two worlds of Sylvarant and Tethe’alla.
“Although,” Lloyd added “you were not the first to have stated that information of reunited worlds and such.”
Lloyd had returned to his monotone state, and Genis allowed himself to relax as well, or at least as relaxed as he could be, given the circumstances. He couldn't help but still be slightly on edge, out of fear of any future outbursts from this otherwise soulless version of his friend.
With a degree of trepidation, he turned is attention to the direction Lloyd pointed. Much to his dismay, what he saw was exactly as the brown-haired boy had described. On one side, the land of Sylvarant, and on the other, Tethe'alla. But how was that possible? The feeling in the small boy's stomach was a mixture of dismay and curiosity. He wasn't sure how he had gotten to this bizarre world, but he was going to get to the bottom of it.
"So according to you, Kratos is dead, and we never fought Mithos..." He spoke to Lloyd, yet continued to stare out at the the two separate worlds "So then what happened to the rest of us? To me? To Raine? To Colette?"
The half-elf almost didn't want to hear the answer. Given that Lloyd had addressed him as a 'phantom' only moments ago, he could only assume that in this universe, none of them were still alive. But he still had to know the circumstances, if for no other reason that potential insight.
But he mentioned another person. Someone else who claimed of the reunion of the two worlds.
"Who was it? Who else knew about the reunited worlds?"
Living in the port town wasn’t bad. The people of Palmacosta were kind ones, the climate was usually warm, but not unbearably so, and the sun usually shining. On any normal day, Genis had absolutely no complaints about living in the city.
And the day had started out just like any other day. In fact, the day had kicked off even better than he had expected. He had just aced another test, and had decided to pay a trip to the docks. His goal was to purchase something freshly caught that one of the many ships had brought in. After all, get a perfect on his exam was reason to celebrate right? Lloyd would probably argue that it wasn’t, since him acing a test was nothing new, but he was going to celebrate anyway.
He had purchased his items, and had even been gifted a few shortcakes from one of the kinder store owners. Unfortunately, that’s about where his good day had stopped being… good. A loud thunderclap, and a flash of lightning later, rain was pouring relentlessly on the poor boy’s head. Figuring he was too far from his dorm, he instead ran toward the inn. On his way inside, he noticed out of the corner of his eye someone else sprinting toward the inn. A girl no less, one that couldn’t be too much older than he was. It wasn’t uncommon for him to spot people he didn’t recognize, but this girl couldn’t possibly be one of the traveling fishermen, right?
Regardless, Genis held the inn door open for her. “Come on, you don’t want to stay out here right? Hurry up!” he called out to her in a teasing manner.
Anise couldn’t quite seem to catch a break. First it was Maestro Tritheim’s death course, then it was Florian’s death course (involving a rather large treant and an injured soldier back-from-the-dead), and now, after having woken up in the middle of a port town she didn’t recognise, she was being beaten to death by the rain. If she didn’t know any better, Anise would have said the title of ‘Fon Master’ was cursed.
“Why is it always me; why couldn’t it have been Ion?” was the phrase that followed after each of her shuddering breaths as she bolted down the street, completely unaware of where she was going. The ice-cold water was lashing down so fiercely that she dared not raise her face, and her hair was drenched so thoroughly that there were miniature waterfalls streaming down in front of her eyes. Her only saving grace was the voice that had suddenly filled her slightly muffled ears, beckoning her onwards and leading her in (what she hoped) was the right direction. She could just see a glint of light stretching out in front of her…
And then the world was upside down.
“Oww…” She landed, face up, with a gasp of pain and shock onto warm ground. Light was shining down on her face like a ray of sunshine. All the water in her ears had drained away, allowing her to hear properly once more. There were buzzing voices all around her, cheerful and excited, yet she couldn’t make out the one that had been guiding her. Had she just imagined it?
“W-Where…?”
Genis watched her fall over, unsure of whether or not he should feel sympathetic for her, or laugh. He abandoned his position at the inn door and ran into the pouring rain. He stopped once he reached the unfortunate female, peering down at her with a grin.
"Are you okay?" He asked of her, all the while obviously forcing back a chuckle. He didn't laugh simply to be mean spirited, of course, yet there was still something comical about her fall.
Another flash of lightning was enough to stifle the boy's laughter. He glanced around him, at the people who were all hurriedly searching for cover, scurrying into their homes or ducking into the inn. A cold shiver suggested that they should do the same. The boy turned his attention back to the fallen girl with a warm smile and an extended hand to help her up.
"You're gonna get sick if you keep laying down there. If you want to take a nap, at least get to the inn first" he said to her in his teasing tone once more.
