@jumpleadsscifi
trying to go back to my audio drama shit; can I get some recs?
stuff that I like: sci-fi, horror and weird stuff in general. I also love mystery/suspense like murder investigation stories.
It's better if there's transcripts of the episodes available, because english is not my first language and sometimes I need to read alongside it to understand some stuff. But it's not a requirement.
(I'm not a big fan of high fantasy, medieval fantasy type of stories)
Also, if anyone has recs for non-fiction podcasts that talk about tecnology, science, politics, philosophy, literature and cinema (specially like horror movies) I'm accepting those recs too!
My show, Before The Tone, is sci-fi horror! We follow Mack, a woman who has just gotten a job as a CCTV operator at the increasingly-suspicious Atlas Consulting. It takes the format of voicemails from Mack to her sister, Daria, who never seems to answer her calls. The horror tends towards the psychological as Mack is stalked and reality becomes a little less solid where Atlas is concerned. The science fiction is focused on time and how its fabric can be manipulated.
My other show, A Somewhat Peculiar Frog, is weird sci-fi! Matthew is a surveying intern at a new nature preserve being established by the PA State Park Service, making audio notes as he goes. He has just found a frog that he cannot identify. It only gets stranger when the frog speaks.
We're a scifi-comedy, if that's your thing! Two trainees in a self-appointed reality police get themselves stuck traveling through different parallel universes trying to find their way home. It's Doctor Who meets Red Dwarf by way of Sliders.
Reminder: All 12 episodes of Jump Leads are available to listen to NOW in your favorite podcasting app!
Described by listeners as DOCTOR WHO meets LOWER DECKS, Jump Leads follows two trainees lost in the multiverse, trying to find their way home. Along the way they’ll face knife-wielding dinosaurs, be sentenced to death by Space Pirates, and get mistaken for angels by a church full of religious robots.
They might even become friends, too – in an infinite Multiverse, anything can happen…
a podcast psa!
if you're a podcast listener on spotify (which more than half our listeners are) and your podcasts sound harsh or weirdly too loud no matter the volume, it's probably because Spotify's "equalizer" feature is on. I would recommend going to your settings>playback>equalizer and turning it off!
I used to use spotify and one day every podcast sounded like absolute dogshit. I tried different headphones, tried different podcasts, even tried different internet connections and nothing worked until I turned off all of spotify's playback features related to frequency (normalize volume, equalizer, etc.). there is a set volume standard that every professional podcast normalizes to and, as far as I experienced, this spotify setting destroys that and makes everything sound like it's peaking all the time.
if you don't use spotify and are still experiencing issues with a show, check your phone settings (a lot of phones have introduced playback settings to help prevent ear damage from listening too loud) or your headphones. and if you're a big audio drama listener and want the best experience, I highly recommend investing in a pair of over-the-ear headphones. I've had these sennheisers for 15 years and, while they're not my main headphones anymore, I still use them for video games, traveling, etc. they're excellent.
