Deaf West Falsettos

Uh okay so there are just some of my ideas for a deaf west version of Falsettos, feel free to add on or discuss any of this with me!

So personally I think Marvin should be played by a deaf actor, which would highlight his very poor communication skills in act one and unwillingness to change himself for other (hearing) characters.

Whizzer would be hearing and in act one wouldn’t sign much, again showing the fact that their relationship in act one is purely physical with no communication between them. In the two year split though, he learns sign so in act two this is one of the factors that helps to build up a healthy relationship between the two. So I imagine that like none of ‘the games I play’ would be signed but all of ‘you gotta die sometime would be’ showing that act two Whizzer puts in more effort to sign even when Marvin isn’t around.

Jason would be deaf since he takes so much after his father. I also think that the whole ‘playing chess alone’ could be done interestingly if he was shown playing with his voice.

Trina would be hearing but a fluent signer, showing her incompatibility with Marvin but her willingness to bend to his every whim.

Mendel would be deaf too, adding more layers onto why Trina is worried that marrying Mendel might be a repeat of what happened with Marvin.

Charlotte is hearing and Cordelia is deaf. I don’t really have any analysis for those two that’s just how I personally interpret the characters ahaha
