I was going to make a fancy announcement and a big reveal about everything happening but I am once again in the trenches and slightly desperate.

So. Name change first—my pen name moving forward is Tierney Rose. No more Michaela Grey/Gray at all, this is a complete rebrand.

Hello! I'm reading Roughing and oh boy do I need to shift my perspective :) For context, I'm Italian from Italy and I know actual people called Carmine. But it's such an old-fashioned name that only our seniors citizens have it. It'd be like oh, there's zio Carmine on his bike! and he's a spindly octagenarian pedalling to the bakery to get fresh bread. Or mastro Carmine the old shoemaker who can repair everything. Or don Carmine the priest who baptised you and is now celebrating your wedding 1)

2) so you get pictures when there's baby!you and he still had hair and now there's married!you and he's old and bespectacled and bald... So now to be reading a story where there's a Carmine but he's a smart young sexy adonis is WOW. Took me a second :) Your Carmine is so wonderful and adorable and simply my type of guy that honestly kudos to you for making it up from scratch you queen (and if you see one such Carmine please point him my way!)

3) Anyway the point of this ask was: 1) your book is wonderful; 2) names are a fun; 3) somewhere in Italy there's an Italian person reading your book who absolutely cracked up laughing at the beginning because in my head Carmine is this old guy who was probably a partisan in the Italian civil war and killed nazis and is almost a 100 years old but living the life with his highschool sweatheart. Then I thought your Carmine would kill nazis too and this great equalizer made me see him for himself

? Which was great because your character is amazing like I said and he deserves to be seen and read like the great protagonist he is, beautiful cinnamon roll who really pretends he's not but pppplease he's a sweatheart but don't touch his boy OR ELSE. Also love that his backstory and that he got Sin because honestly that guy needed to relax and chill in every sense of the word and they are perfect together and HONESTLY CAN I SCREAM ABOUT THEM YES I CAN MY LOVELIES MY SQUISHY BABIES HOCKEYSTARS

Hello! Is it ok to ask you about side characters in your books? Like, how did you come up with them, what's their story (past, present, future), what they do in their free time, their likes and dislikes, etc.? Simon in Roughing really made an impression! I love villains 😇: I can't help but wonder about his origin story, what made him become the way he is, if he can be redeemed, how such a redemption would come about... (Oh I miss my book club pals)

I love talking about my characters! You can always ask me about them and I will happily ramble for hours. Simon's book is about 2/3 done but I have a wicked case of writer's block - starting with how stressed and miserable I was in the hockey job, and then being stressed about being fired. I'm feeling much better emotionally now but I'm working a lot of overtime and spending the rest of my time out with the horses, so I haven't really sat down to write in a while.

I DO want to finish, because I love Simon and he's so much fun to write. It may be my last hockey novel, though - I haven't had any ideas for a new story in a long time and I'm thinking I'll pivot to a different genre after I finish his story.

You are so sweet!! I actually JUST got a new job—it took two months but I’m loving it so far, and I’m excited about my future with the company! My old boss nearly ruined hockey for me but I do still watch games with my daughter and root for our teams.

I’m working on one last hockey book but after that, I think I might dip my toes in another genre or two. We shall see! 😊

one of my favorite things to do in limited perspective is write sentences about the things someone doesn't do. he doesn't open his eyes. he doesn't reach out. i LOVE sentences like that. if it's describing the narrator, it's a reflection of their desires, something they're holding themselves back from. there's a tension between urge and action. it makes you ask why they wanted or felt compelled to do that, and also why they ultimately didn't. and if it's describing someone else, it tells you about the narrator's expectations. how they perceive that other person or their relationship. what they thought the other person was going to do, or thought the other person should have done, but failed to. negative action sentences are everything.

This child is learning the concept of ascending numbers; at that age, spelling ‘three’ is probably difficult for them.

At the age where this question would be appropriate, this child would be learning the early concepts of base ten addition with these:

While they would have seen children’s posters and toys that count up to ten countless times, rainbow numbers are probably their current main association with the number ten. However, this child doesn’t understand that ten is a larger number than three. There are two main reasons why this might be:

- the child doesn’t understand how many ten is, and sees the numbers 1 and 0, which they do understand. When asked to explain their reasoning, they don’t know how to (this kid is probably about 5 years old), so draw what the number 10 makes them think of.

- the child misunderstands the concept of ‘smaller’ in this question, and thinks of 10 as ‘simpler’ or ‘more fundamental’ a number. This is a common conclusion for little kids to draw because we put so much emphasis on learning to ad and count to 10, so they may think of using rainbow numbers as a way to simplify and reduce down to 10. Again, a 5 year old doesn’t have the self awareness or vocabulary to explain this, and having misunderstood the question, won’t do what is expected (drawing 3 dots next to 10 dots or something similar). Their answer is ‘the rainbow number chart says so’.

Further questioning could help find exactly which misconception the child has, but there’s little point; as soon as the child properly grasps what 10 is, the misconception will resolve itself in either case.

I, for one, am very excited that you are working on something new. The other day I was panicked b/c I thought I didn’t finish Goalie Tandem, then I remembered that I did. lol

Oh, I'm a mess. But I also knew it was coming and I've been ready for a while. I'm applying everywhere I can think of and I figure, in the meantime, I'll take my suddenly free schedule and put it to good use

It's actually a departure for me, not my "brand" or whatever, but it's what I want to write so I hope you guys will want to read it <3
