hihi everybody please follow @hallowburn-art !!! :3
why does nobody interact with us on here it's been days we're just yelling into the void
Deconstruct your amatonormativity!!
Take yourself out on dates. Go to the movie theater alone. Go out to eat alone. Enjoy life alone, it's okay. Enjoy life with friends. Take you're friends out on dates. Have sex with people you don't love. Have sex with people you don't want to marry. Have friends with benefits and hook ups and one night stands and situationships. Never have sex. Never get married. Marry your best friend. Kiss your friends. Date multiple people. When people say you'll never be happy alone kill them with hammers 🔨🔨🔨🔨. Live alone with several pets. Be happy. Be free. Do you.
I think one of the wildest parts about discovering you're asexual is realizing almost everyone else isn't.
i'm not aroace because "i feel nothing" :-/ i'm aroace because i feel way too much about things amatonormativity has deemed irrelevant.
It's not romantic. It's not platonic. It's "I would walk through the ends of the world for you and you would do the same, so who cares what everyone else thinks as long as I have you by my side."
I hate you Ozempic craze I hate you 'heroin chic' I hate you weight loss ads on public radio I hate Burn Fat Fast ads every thirty seconds I hate you I hate you I hate you
regressing while watching videos we used to watch when we were younger and seeing "10 years ago", "11 years ago", and "12 years ago" ......... WHYYYYY

PSA: Box breathing isn’t safe for everyone!
“Box breathing” and similar breathing exercises that call for breath holding, even for a few seconds, can aggravate respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD. In some cases, even deep breathing can trigger respiratory symptoms.
(ID: an animated gif showing a diagram of box breathing, where you breathe in for 4 seconds, then hold for 4, then breathe out for 4 and hold for 4, in a continuous cycle. End ID.)
I didn’t learn this until a couple years ago, and a lot of people still don’t know! Talk with your medical providers about alternatives!
I personally use in through the nose, out through the mouth exercises (like “smell the roses, blow out the candles”). Inhaling through the nose is best for asthma, since the nose filters some particles and irritants, and warms and moistens the air going to your lungs, all of which can help reduce symptoms. I specifically don’t hold my breath in between those steps!
Alternatives to breathing exercises include techniques such as distraction, identifying 5 sensations, fidget tools, listening to music, putting on a favorite show, or guided meditation.
Distraction is great when hyperventilating, most people, when mentally distracted, will fall back into a normal breathing pattern naturally. Sometimes focusing on your breath and body *isnt* the answer or even necessary.
no one ever told me this but apparently: asthma makes your posture suck
Adults with persistent asthma have musculoskeletal dysfunction and chronic pain that is independent of the severity of their disease but tha
after having an asthma attack that put me in the ER last february i realized i tend to habitually breathe in a way that hides the fact that i am actually wheezing pretty much 24/7. i hunch forward and breathe extremely shallowly out of habit, because if i breathe deeply it's painful and you can hear me wheeze.
following this, i had the realization that my upper back, chest, and shoulder muscles are actually EXTREMELY fucked up. long story short, i have hand and wrist symptoms reminiscent of thoracic outlet syndrome (separate issue affected by shoulder muscle flexibility), and asthma provides the most sensible explanation for why my shoulder muscles became so tight in the first place.
so i did some googling and, lo and behold: this is a thing.
anyway to my fellow lifelong asthmatics, if you find it harder to breathe when you're doing any kind of upper body stretching, you should probably look into controller meds and/or increasing the dose of what you're on. most people can't audibly wheeze on command while their throat is relaxed. i didn't actually realize that i was wheezing 24/7 because i unconsciously altered my posture to make it easier to breathe, making the wheezing not audible despite that i have a constricted airway.
Things that can trigger asthma in your poor poor character~~
Too much exercise. Having to run (for something? Away from someone?) or go up a long flight of stairs, only to double over in a coughing fit, trying to open their airways.
Cold weather. Imagine having a long walk home on a freezing cold night, feeling your lungs ache worse and worse until you collapse in the street. Will anyone find you?
Pets, especially cats and some dogs. Red swollen eyes, uncontrollable sneezing and a nose that's running away.
Having a simple cold can be 10 times worse. What if you're so inflamed and congested your lips start going blue?
Cockroaches, rodents, and mold. They're kept in a filthy environment where not only are they getting sick from the dirt and old food but having trouble breathing from the amount of irritants.
Any strong emotions. In the middle of a heated argument with a partner, they suddenly start wheezing and choking. Does their partner rush to their side, forgetting what they were so mad about, or turn away and let them suffer?
Cigarette smoke. Imagine they're hopelessly addicted to smoking as an escape, but they have a deep, dry, rip-splitting cough that never goes away. Or, maybe a kidnapper is constantly blowing cigar smoke in their face to trigger an attack.
Air pollution. Maybe they work in a factory or plant without proper protection, or live in an industrial city, and really do need to visit the seaside for their health.
Any strong scents, like incense, oils, perfume, candles, or air freshener. Maybe an abuser fills their room with irritating scents at all hours.
not so friendly reminder that severe asthma is a disability. imagine trying to work or relax while your chest is being squeezed 24/7 and every breath causes you pain. fearing the rain and heat because the humidity will make you bedridden.
having to nebulize 4 times per day to prevent your lungs from getting worse. having to cancel or reschedule things due to weather, air quality alerts, administering medication, sudden doctor visits. being acutely aware of your limited breathing capacity at all times and unable to focus on anything at all or even finish your sentences when you speak.
this is what i have to fight every day.
the best way you can help people like me this disability pride month, is to contact your representatives wherever you live, and demand a data center moratorium. stop the expansion of oil pipelines. fight for renewable energy sources and clean air regulations so we can have walkable, breathable cities.
and don't ever let anyone tell you that a better future isn't possible.
I feel like asthma isn’t really talked about a lot in the physically disabled community, and that really sucks :(
a lot of people think it’s just something that affects kids and that “oh you’re just out of shape! once you exercise more it’ll go away or get more manageable!”, and I HATE that because it’s more the inverse. I’ve always had pretty weak stamina, but as I got older I realized it wasn’t just that, and after a pretty bad episode of covid last year, I realized I was asthmatic. and ever since then it’s only gotten worse; I WISH I could exercise more, but it gets so bad some days I feel like I can’t take a proper breath even with an inhaler. and the side effects of my dpi give me a constant sore throat and cough, so that just adds on to the struggle to breathe properly.
so shoutout to all my asthmatic folks out there. I hope you get the respect and accommodations you deserve.
The crazy thing about having both insomnia and asthma is that your body literally cannot do the two things that keep you alive: breathing and sleeping.
