y'all have no idea how much i enjoy seeing people i had interacted w years ago still active out here. it's so fun to see, but also i've been so out of writing it's like... lol where is my confidence???

ruri peeked out from under the manga she had been "reading" prior to napping and quirked an eyebrow up at her best friend. heroes are things for mangas and video games, she thought to herself as she stretched her limbs out to shake the feeling of drowsiness off. "whatever do you mean mariichi?" a prolonged yawn escaped her as she eventually sat up to look over at mari with her usual cheerful demeanor. "there are no such things as heroes." there was no way that she could view herself as such. after all, ruriko didn't feel as if she really did anything special. call it imposter syndrome or never being good enough, but she really couldn't see what it was that mari commended her for. at best, ruri's own self-perception is that she's average and she's just doing what she can to get by.

Oh no, Ruriko's managed to do what countless volleyballs have failed to do in years and finally fucking ended her. Mari's reign of terror is over, because she's dead. To say the respect is mutual is an understatement, Ruri's practically a third sister to her at this point, a member of the family (she was 80% sure her dad would announce that he'd managed to adopt Ruriko any day now) and someone she liked to see. Both on and off the volleyball court. Which was saying something.

"You know you're my best friend too, hanging out with you is just...peaceful, you know? I don't have to act differently or tailor how I talk around you because you're just so real. And you accept me, despite the obvious personality flaws."

Mari's not entirely sure what she did to have a friend like Ruriko, but if she had it her way they'd be chilling in the same nursing home together. Probably shouting at kids for playing volleyball wrong.
