Deep, organic, and soulful, with a touch of acid about halfway through. For the most part, I'm not too keen on acid house, but this track has the right amount of 909 in it to not scare me away. Also really digging the live-sounding bass on this one.

Kez Ym - Washing My Soul

While the hot summer days call for poppy and jumpy stuff, the setting sun beckons the slower, shuffling grooves. Absolutely delicate, this one.

Dancefloor stomper with a decidedly MK feel to it. Very vanilla, but there's nothing wrong with that. Like a lot of the music I've posted as of late, I could definitely picture this thrown in a poolside set!

I don't want to make this little blog too personal, but yesterday I finished my last full quarter as an undergraduate (I say full cause I'm still taking a couple of classes in the summer). The gravity of it all didn't really hit me until I stumbled upon this song and subsequently listened to it about 5 times in a row, completely lost in it. It's perfect. The halfway-soulful vocals, the absolutely jaw dropping piano riff, and that lovely blunt bassline all made the memories flood back. And all the various anguishes I've been harboring the past week or so gently slipped away. Time kinda stood still for a bit as I thought about it all. It was pretty great. This song will be on repeat for most of the summer, for sure.

I haven't heard this song in ages. Poppy for sure, but the vocals are so damn good. Chord progression makes me happy, too. That classic 90s cheesy-ness. Helping me keep my cool in this heat and stress from school.

Generally speaking, I find Lana Del Rey to be insufferably annoying. This rework by Four Tet makes her tolerable, enjoyable even. Poolside thumper, this one is. Bouncy bass, entrancing use of the vocal sample, and of course, strong percussive elements laid underneath. I likely wouldn't like it otherwise.

Absolute summer HEAT. God damn. Currently sitting in a cafe on campus tapping my feet and bobbing my head like a dumbass to this killer track. It goes without saying that the piano is stellar. But I love the percussion on this track as well, even though it is very subdued. I'm just a sucker for brazilian percussion rhythms. 

Afro Medusa - Pasilda (Knee Deep Club Mix)

Hed Kandi sure has changed a lot in the last decade, but with the recent resurgence of House/Deep House/Soulful House, I feel they're in prime position to revitalize their line of compilations. This one sounds pretty solid, if a bit "cookie cutter" or manufactured. It's undoubtedly commercial sounding, but there's nothing particularly wrong with that. At least in my opinion. I'll always hold a soft spot for their albums/mixes—their albums are a part of what got me into the genre so heavily in the first place (the other reason being Daft Punk's Discovery).

Friday calls for some boogie inspired heat. Tiger & Woods have some of the groovin-est tracks...probably ever. This Tensnake remix is definitely, definitely one of them. I also highly recommend their Tool Kit for Winter Fitness EP, which contrary to its name, slaps every no matter the weather.

This...in my opinion is the PERFECT tech house song. I believe I first heard it on Maya Jane Coles' Essential Mix a year or two ago. Ever since it's been one of my top 10 favorite tracks ever, regardless of genre. Just as my previous post, this song just invokes nostalgia, yearning, but also a certain mellowness like no other. The chord progression, the song structure, percussion, and absolutely haunting vocal and lyrics drive this one straight into my soul.
