Morris Marina Marauder, 1974. A project by the Experimental department of the Engineering Division at BL and Car magazine to "add some excitement" to the Marina estate. Originally the plan was to fit the car with Rover's alloy V8 engine but the fuel crisis of 1973 meant the V8 was dropped and the car's 1.8 litre B-series was tuned instead. The styling was done by Harris Mann, suspension and braking were upgraded and an MG-sourced overdrive gearbox was fitted. The interior was retrimmed in velour. The extra weight meant acceleration wasn't significantly better than the standard 1.8 litre Marina but top speed was increased to 120mph thanks to improved aerodynamics and the overdrive gearbox.
